1 Craignons donc, de peur, qu’une promesse nous étant laissée d’entrer dans son repos, quelqu’un d’entre vous semblerait ne pas l’atteindre.

 1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

2 Car c’est à nous que l’évangile a été prêché, aussi bien qu’à eux: mais la parole prêchée ne leur a pas profité, n’étant pas mêlée avec la foi en ceux qui l’entendirent.

 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

3 Car nous qui avons cru entrons dans le repos, comme il a dit, Comme j’ai juré dans mon courroux, s’ils entrent dans mon repos: bien que les œuvres étaient terminées depuis la fondation du monde.

 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

4 Car il parla dans un certain endroit du septième jour de la sorte, Et Dieu se reposa effectivement le septième jour de toutes ses œuvres.

 4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

5 Et dans ce passage encore, S’ils viennent à entrer dans mon repos.

 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

6 Voyant donc qu’il en reste quelques-uns qui doivent y entrer, et ceux à qui elle avait été prêchée en premier n’y sont pas entrés à cause d’incrédulité:

 6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

7 De nouveau il fixa un certain jour, disant par David, Aujourd’hui, après si longtemps; comme il est dit, Aujourd’hui, si vous entendez sa voix, n’endurcissez pas vos cœurs.

 7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

8 Car si Jésus leur avait donné le repos, alors n’aurait-il pas ensuite parlé d’un autre jour.

 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

9 Il reste donc un repos au peuple de Dieu.

 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

10 Car celui qui est entré dans son repos, il a aussi cessé de faire ses propres œuvres, comme Dieu a fait des siennes.

 10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

11 Adonnons donc pour entrer dans ce repos, de peur que quelqu’un ne tombe en suivant le même exemple d’incrédulité.

 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

12 Car la parole de Dieu est vivante et persuasive, et plus acérée qu’aucune épée à double tranchant, perçant même jusqu’à séparer l’un de l’autre l’âme de l’esprit, et des jointures et de la moelle, et elle discerne les pensées et les intentions du cœur.

 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

13 Il n’y a non plus aucune créature qui ne soit manifeste à sa vue: mais rtoutes choses sont nues et dévoilées aux yeux de celui avec lequel nous avons à faire.

 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

14 Voyant donc que nous avons un éminent grand prêtre qui est passé dans les cieux, Jésus, le Fils de Dieu, tenons ferme notre profession.

 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15 Car nous n’avons pas un grand prêtre qui ne peut pas être touché par le sentiment nos infirmités; mais il a été en tous points tenté comme nous le sommes, cependant sans péché.

 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16 Venons donc avec hardiesse vers le trône de grâce, afin que nous puissions obtenir miséricorde, et trouver grâce pour aider au moment du besoin.

 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
