1 Par conséquent laissant les principes de la doctrine de Christ, continuons d’aller vers la perfection; ne posant pas de nouveau le fondement de la repentance des œuvres mortes, et de la foi envers Dieu,

 1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

2 De la doctrine des baptêmes, et de poser les mains, et de la résurrection des morts, et du jugement éternel.

 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

3 Et nous ferons cela, si Dieu le permet.

 3 And this will we do, if God permit.

4 Car il est impossible pour ceux qui ont été une fois éclairés, et qui ont goûté au don céleste, et qui ont été faits participants de l’Esprit Saint,

 4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 Et qui ont goûté la bonne parole de Dieu, et les pouvoirs du monde à venir,

 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 S’ils abandonnent, de les restaurer de nouveau à la repentance; vu qu’ils crucifient de nouveau pour eux-mêmes le Fils de Dieu, et l’exposent à une honte évidente.

 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

7 Car la terre qui s’imbibe de la pluie qui vient sur elle, et qui produit des plantes appropriées pour ceux par qui elle est préparée, reçoit la bénédiction de la part de Dieu:

 7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

8 Mais celle qui porte des épines et des chardons est rejetée, et est proche de la malédiction; sa fin est d’être brûlée.

 8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

9 Mais, bien-aimés, nous sommes persuadés de meilleures choses à votre égard, et de choses qui accompagnent le salut, bien que nous parlions ainsi.

 9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

10 Car Dieu n’est pas inique pour oublier votre œuvre et le labeur d’amour, que vous avez déployé envers son nom, en ce que vous avez subvenu aux saints et y subvenez encore.

 10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

11 Et nous désirons que chacun de vous déploie la même assiduité pour la pleine assurance de l’espérance, jusqu’à la fin:

 11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

12 Afin que vous ne soyez pas oisifs, mais que vous suiviez ceux qui au moyen de la foi et la patience héritent les promesses.

 12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

13 Car lorsque Dieu fit la promesse à Abraham, parce qu’il ne pouvait jurer par un plus grand, il jura par lui-même,

 13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,

14 Disant, Assurément en bénissant je te bénirai, et en multipliant je te multiplierai.

 14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

15 Et ainsi, après qu’il eut patiemment enduré, il obtint la promesse.

 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

16 Car les hommes en vérité jurent par le plus grand: et un serment est pour eux pour confirmer une fin à toute querelle.

 16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.

17 En quoi Dieu, voulant montrer plus abondamment aux héritiers de la promesse l’immutabilité de son conseil, le confirma par un serment:

 17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

18 Afin que par deux choses immuables, dans lesquelles il était impossible pour Dieu de mentir, nous puissions avoir une forte consolation, nous qui avons fui vers un refuge pour saisir l’espérance placée devant nous:

 18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

19 Laquelle espérance nous avons comme une ancre de l’âme, et sûre et ferme, et laquelle entre jusqu’à l’intérieur du voile;

 19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

20 Où le précurseur est entré pour nous, c’est-à-dire Jésus devenu un grand prêtre à toujours, suivant l’ordre de Melchisédec.

 20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
