1 Car ce Melchisédec, roi de Salem, prêtre du Dieu le plus haut, qui alla à la rencontre d’Abraham revenant du massacre des rois, et le bénit;

 1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

2 Auquel aussi Abraham donna un dixième de tout; étant d’abord par interprétation Roi de droiture, et après cela aussi Roi de Salem, ce qui est, Roi de paix;

 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

3 Sans père, sans mère, sans descendant, n’ayant ni commencement de jours, ni fin de vie; mais fait semblable au Fils de Dieu; demeure un prêtre continuellement.

 3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

4 Or considérez combien grand était cet homme, à qui même Abraham le patriarche donna le dixième du butin.

 4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

5 Et en vérité ceux qui sont des fils de Lévi, qui reçoivent la charge de la prêtrise, ont un commandement de prélever la dîme sur le peuple, selon la loi, c’est-à-dire, sur leurs frères, bien qu’ils soient sortis des flancs; d’Abraham:

 5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

6 Mais celui dont la descendance n’est pas comptée comme des leurs, reçut la dîme d’Abraham, et bénit celui qui avait les promesses.

 6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

7 Et sans contredit, le moindre est béni par le meilleur.

 7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

8 Et ici les hommes qui meurent reçoivent les dîmes; mais là, il les reçoit, de celui dont il est témoigné qu’il vit.

 8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

9 Et si je peux m’exprimer ainsi, Lévi aussi, qui reçoit les dîmes, a payé les dîmes en Abraham.

 9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

10 Car il était encore dans les flancs; de son père, lorsque Melchisédec alla à sa rencontre.

 10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

11 Si donc la perfection était par la prêtrise lévitique (car sous elle le peuple a reçu la loi), quel autre besoin y avait-il qu’un autre prêtre soit suscité suivant l’ordre de Melchisedec, et non pas appelé suivant l’ordre d’Aaron?

 11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

12 Car la prêtrise étant changée, il y a de nécessité un changement aussi de la loi.

 12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

13 Car celui dont ces choses sont dites appartient à une autre tribu, de laquelle aucun homme n’a assisté à l’autel.

 13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

14 Car il est évident que notre Seigneur jaillit de Juda; tribu de laquelle Moïse n’a rien dit concernant la prêtrise.

 14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

15 Et cela est encore bien plus évident: en ce que suivant la similitude de Melchisédec se lève un autre prêtre,

 15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

16 Qui a été fait, non suivant la loi d’un commandement charnel, mais suivant le pouvoir d’une vie sans fin.

 16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

17 Car il atteste, Tu es un prêtre à toujours, suivant l’ordre de Melchisédec.

 17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

18 Car il y a véritablement une annulation du commandement qui a précédé, à cause de sa faiblesse et de son inutilité.

 18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

19 Car la loi n’a rendu rien parfait, seulement l’introduction d’une meilleure espérance; par laquelle nous nous approchons de Dieu.

 19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

20 Et d’autant que sans serment il a été fait prêtre:

 20 And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

21 (Car ces prêtres-là ont été faits sans un serment; mais celui-ci l’a été avec un serment, par celui qui lui a dit, Le Seigneur le jure, et ne se repentira pas, Tu es un prêtre à toujours, suivant l’ordre de Melchisedec):

 21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

22 Par cela Jésus a été fait un garant d’un bien meilleur testament.

 22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

23 Et il y eut en vérité beaucoup de prêtres, parce qu’ils ne pouvaient continuer en raison de la mort:

 23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

24 Mais cet homme, parce qu’il continue à toujours, possède une prêtrise inchangeable.

 24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

25 C’est pourquoi aussi il est capable de sauver jusqu’à l’extrême ceux qui viennent à Dieu par lui, puisqu’il vit toujours pour faire intercession pour eux.

 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

26 Car un tel grand prêtre nous convenait, qui est saint, innocent, non souillé, séparé des pécheurs, et fait plus haut que les cieux;

 26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

27 Qui n’a pas besoin tous les jours, comme ces grands prêtres, d’offrir un sacrifice, d’abord pour ses propres péchés, et ensuite pour ceux du peuple: car il a fait cela une fois pour toutes, lorsqu’il s’offrit lui-même.

 27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

28 Car la loi institue grands prêtres des hommes qui ont des faiblesses; mais la parole du serment, laquelle était après la loi, institue le Fils, qui est consacré à jamais.

 28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
