1 Car la loi n’ayant qu’une ombre des bonnes choses à venir, et non l’image même des choses, ne peut jamais par ces sacrifices qu’ils ont offerts continuellement année après année rendre parfaits ceux qui y viennent.

 1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

2 Car alors n’auraient-ils pas cessé d’être offerts? parce que les adorateurs une fois purgés auraient dû ne plus avoir conscience des péchés.

 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

3 Mais dans ces sacrifices il y a là encore un souvenir des péchés réitéré chaque année.

 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

4 Car il n’est pas possible que le sang des taureaux et des chèvres ôte les péchés.

 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

5 C’est pourquoi lorsqu’il vient dans le monde, il dit, De sacrifice et d’offrande tu n’as voulu, mais un corps tu m’as préparé:

 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

6 Dans les offrandes brûlées, et les sacrifices pour le péché tu n’as eu aucun plaisir.

 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7 Alors dis-je, Voici, je viens (dans le volume du livre il est écrit de moi), pour faire ta volonté, Ô Dieu.

 7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

8 Plus haut lorsqu’il dit, De sacrifice et d’offrande et d’offrandes brûlées, et d’offrande pour le péché, tu n’as pas voulu, tu n’y as pas pris plaisir non plus; lesquels sont offerts par la loi;

 8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

9 Alors il a dit, Voici, je viens pour faire ta volonté, Ô Dieu. Il enlève le premier, afin qu’il puisse établir le second.

 9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

10 Par laquelle volonté nous sommes sanctifiés par le moyen de l’offrande du corps de Jésus Christ faite une fois pour tous.

 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11 Et tout prêtre se tient quotidiennement servant et offrant souvent les mêmes sacrifices, lesquels ne peuvent jamais ôter les péchés:

 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

12 Mais cet homme, après qu’il eut offert un sacrifice pour les péchés pour toujours, s’est assis à la main droite de Dieu;

 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

13 Désormais attendant jusqu’à ce que ses ennemis soient faits son marchepied.

 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

14 Car par une seule offrande, il a perfectionné pour toujours ceux qui sont sanctifiés.

 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

15 Ce dont l’Esprit Saint aussi nous est un témoin: car après cela il avait dit précédemment,

 15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

16 C’est ici l’alliance que je ferai avec eux après ces jours-là, dit le Seigneur, je mettrai mes lois dans leurs cœurs, et dans leurs cerveaux, je les écrirai;

 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

17 Et de leurs péchés et iniquités je ne me souviendrai plus.

 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

18 Or là où il y a rémission de ceux-ci, il n’y a plus d’offrande pour le péché.

 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19 Ayant donc, frères, hardiesse d’entrer dans le plus saint par le sang de Jésus,

 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

20 Par un nouveau et vivant, chemin lequel il a consacré pour nous, à travers le voile, c’est-à-dire, sa chair;

 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21 Et ayant un grand prêtre sur la maison de Dieu;

 21 And having an high priest over the house of God;

22 Approchons-nous avec un cœur vrai dans la pleine assurance de foi, ayant nos cœurs purifiés d’une mauvaise conscience, et nos corps nettoyés d’eau pure.

 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

23 Tenons ferme la profession de notre foi sans vaciller; (car il est fidèle celui qui a promis);

 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

24 Et préoccupons-nous l’un de l’autre pour nous inciter à l’amour et aux bonnes œuvres:

 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

25 N’abandonnant pas le rassemblement de nous-mêmes, comme en est la manière de quelques-uns; mais nous exhortant l’un l’autre: et ainsi d’autant plus, comme vous voyez le jour approcher.

 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

26 Car si nous péchons volontairement après que nous ayons reçu la connaissance de la vérité, il ne reste plus de sacrifice pour les péchés,

 26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27 Mais une certaine attente effrayante du jugement et une indignation enflammée, qui dévorera les adversaires.

 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

28 Celui qui méprisait la loi de Moïse mourait sans miséricorde par deux ou trois témoins:

 28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29 D’une punition combien plus douloureuse, supposez-vous, sera-t-il considéré digne celui qui a piétiné le Fils de Dieu, et qui a estimé le sang de l’alliance par lequel il avait été sanctifié, comme une chose profane, et a agi avec malignité envers l’Esprit de grâce?

 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

30 Car nous connaissons celui qui a dit, À moi appartient la vengeance, je rétribuerai, dit le Seigneur. Et encore, Le Seigneur jugera son peuple.

 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31 C’est une chose effroyable que de tomber entre les mains du Dieu vivant.

 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32 Mais rappelez en mémoire les jours précédents, durant lesquels, après que vous fûtes éclairés, vous avez enduré un grand combat d’afflictions;

 32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

33 D’une part, lorsque vous avez été mis au pilori par des outrages et des afflictions; et d’autre part, lorsque vous êtes devenus les compagnons de ceux qui étaient utilisés de la sorte.

 33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.

34 Car vous avez eu de la compassion pour moi dans mes liens, et avez accepté joyeusement la spoliation de vos biens, sachant en vous-mêmes que vous avez au ciel une bien meilleure et permanente existence.

 34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

35 Ne rejetez donc pas au loin votre confiance, laquelle a une grande rétribution comme récompense.

 35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

36 Car vous avez besoin de patience, afin que, après que vous ayez fait la volonté de Dieu, vous puissiez recevoir la promesse.

 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

37 Car encore un peu moment, et celui qui viendra, viendra, et ne tardera pas.

 37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

38 Or le juste vivra par la foi: mais si quelqu’un recule, mon âme ne prendra aucun plaisir en lui.

 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

39 Mais nous ne sommes pas de ceux qui reculent vers la perdition; mais de ceux qui croient au salut de l’âme.

 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
