1 C’est pourquoi voyant que nous aussi sommes environnés d’un si grand nuage de témoins, laissons de côté tout fardeau et le péché qui nous assiège si aisément, et courons avec patience la course qui est placée devant nous,

 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Regardant à Jésus, l’auteur et le finisseur de notre foi; qui pour la joie qui était placée devant lui a enduré la croix, méprisant la honte, et s’est assis à la main droite du trône de Dieu.

 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 Car considérez celui qui endura une telle opposition des pécheurs contre lui-même, de peur que vous ne vous lassiez et ne défailliez dans vos cerveaux.

 3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

4 Cependant vous n’avez pas encore résisté jusqu’au sang, en luttant contre le péché.

 4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

5 Et vous avez oublié l’exhortation qui vous parle comme à des enfants, Mon fils, ne méprise pas le châtiment du Seigneur, ne te laisse pas non plus défaillir, lorsque tu es repris par lui:

 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

6 6 Car qui le Seigneur aime il châtie, et fouette tout fils qu’il reçoit.

 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 Si vous endurez le châtiment, Dieu agit envers vous comme envers des fils; car quel fils est celui dont le père ne châtie pas?

 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8 Mais si vous êtes sans châtiment, de quoi tous sont participants, alors vous êtes des bâtards, et non des fils.

 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

9 De plus nous avons eu des pères de notre chair qui nous ont corrigés, et nous leur avons montré révérence: ne voudrions pas beaucoup plus être en sujétion envers le Père des esprits, et vivre?

 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

10 Car en vérité ils nous châtiaient quelques jours, suivant leur propre plaisir; mais lui pour notre intérêt, pour que nous puissions être participants de sa sainteté.

 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

11 Or aucun châtiment sur le moment ne semble être joyeux, mais douloureux: néanmoins ensuite il produit le paisible fruit de droiture à ceux qui sont exercés par ce moyen.

 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

12 C’est pourquoi relevez les mains qui pendent, et les genoux affaiblis;

 12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

13 Et faites des sentiers droits pour vos pieds, de peur que ce qui est boiteux ne soit détourné hors du chemin; mais qu’il soit plutôt guéri.

 13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

14 Poursuivez la paix avec tous les hommes, et la sainteté, sans laquelle aucun homme ne verra le Seigneur:

 14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

15 Veillant assidûment de peur que quelqu’un ne manque de la grâce de Dieu; de peur que quelque racine d’amertume en jaillissant, ne vous trouble, et de ce fait beaucoup ne soient souillés;

 15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

16 De peur qu’il n’y ait quelque fornicateur, ou une personne profane, comme Ésaü, qui, pour un peu de nourritude vendit son droit d’aînesse.

 16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

17 Car vous savez comment après, lorsqu’il voulut hériter de la bénédiction, il fut rejeté: car il ne trouva pas lieu de repentance, quoiqu’il l’ait recherchée soigneusement avec larmes.

 17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

18 Car vous n’êtes pas venus au mont qui peut être touché, et qui brûlait par le feu, ni de la noirceur, et de l’obscurité, et de la tempête,

 18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

19 Et le son d’une trompette, et à la voix des paroles; laquelle voix ceux qui l’entendirent implorèrent pour que la parole ne leur soit plus jamais adressée:

 19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:

20 (Car ils ne pouvaient pas endurer ce qui était commandé. Et si même une bête touche la montagne, elle sera lapidée, ou transpercée d’un dard:

 20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:

21 Et si terrible était la vue que Moïse dit: Je suis extrêmement effrayé et j’en tremble):

 21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)

22 Mais vous êtes venus au mont Sion, et à la cité du Dieu vivant, la Jérusalem céleste, et à une compagnie innombrable d’anges,

 22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

23 À l’assemblée générale et église des premiers-nés, lesquels sont écrits au ciel, et à Dieu le Juge de tous, et aux esprits des hommes justes rendus parfaits,

 23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

24 Et à Jésus le médiateur de la nouvelle alliance, et au sang de l’aspersion, qui parle de meilleures choses que celui d’Abel.

 24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

25 Voyez à ce que vous ne refusiez pas celui qui parle. Car s’ils n’échappèrent pas ceux qui refusèrent celui qui parla sur la terre, combien plus n’échapperons-nous pas, si nous nous détournons de celui qui parle depuis le ciel:

 25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

26 Dont la voix ébranla alors la terre: mais maintenant il a promis, disant, Encore une fois j’ébranlerai non seulement la terre, mais aussi le ciel.

 26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

27 Et cette parole, Encore une fois, signifie la suppression de ces choses qui sont ébranlées, comme des choses qui sont faites, pour que ces choses qui ne peuvent être ébranlées puissent demeurer.

 27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28 C’est pourquoi nous recevant un royaume qui ne peut être déplacé, ayons la grâce, par laquelle nous pouvons servir Dieu de manière acceptable avec révérence et crainte selon Dieu:

 28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

29 Car notre Dieu est un feu consumant.

 29 For our God is a consuming fire.
