1 Quant Ephraim (Éphraïm) parlait en tremblant, il s’élevait lui-même en Israël ; mais il s’est rendu coupable par Baal, et il est mort.

 1 When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.

2 Et maintenant ils continuent à pécher de plus en plus, et se sont fait de leur argent des images fondues, et des idoles selon leur propre imagination, tout cela n’est qu’ouvrages d’artisans, desquels ils disent, Que les hommes qui sacrifient embrassent les veaux.

 2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

3 C’est pourquoi ils seront comme le nuage du matin, comme la rosée matinale qui se dissipe, comme la paille qui est emportée hors dans l’aire par le tourbillon, et comme la fumée sortant de la cheminée.

 3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

4 Néanmoins je suis le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu depuis le pays d’Égypte, et tu ne devrais reconnaître d’autre dieu que moi ; aussi n’y a-t-il nul sauveur hormis moi.

 4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

5 ¶ Je t’ai connu dans le désert, dans une terre très aride.

 5 ¶ I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

6 Ils ont été rassasiés selon l’abondance de leurs pâturages ; ils ont été rassasiés, et leur cœur s’éleva ; c’est pourquoi ils m’ont oublié.

 6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

7 C’est pourquoi je serai pour eux comme un lion ; comme un léopard, je les épierai sur le chemin ;

 7 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:

8 Je les rencontrerai comme une ourse à qui l’on a enlevé ses petits, et je déchirerai l’enveloppe de leur cœur, et je les dévorerai là, comme une lionne ; et la bête sauvage les déchirera.

 8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.

9 ¶ ô Israël, tu t’es détruit toi-même, mais en moi est ton secours.

 9 ¶ O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

10 Je serai ton roi où est l’autre qui puisse te sauver dans toutes tes villes ? Et tes juges, dont tu as dit : Donne-moi un roi et des princes ?

 10 I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?

11 Je t’ai donné un roi dans mon courroux, je te l’ai ôté dans ma colère.

 11 I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.

12 L’iniquité d’Ephraim (Éphraïm) est liée, et son péché est caché.

 12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

13 Les douleurs d’une femme en travail viendront sur lui ; C’est un fils insensé ; car il ne devrait pas se tenir si longtemps en la déchirure des enfants.

 13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.

14 Je les rançonnerai de la puissance de la tombe ; je les rachèterai de la mort Ô mort, je serai tes plaies ; Ô tombe, je serai ta destruction ; la repentance sera cachée à mes yeux.

 14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

15 ¶ Quand il aura fructifié parmi ses frères, un vent d’Est viendra, le vent du SEIGNEUR, montera du désert, et desséchera sa source et sa fontaine tarira ; il pillera le trésor de tous les ustensiles désirables.

 15 ¶ Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.

16 Samarie sera dévastée, car elle s’est rebellée contre son Dieu ils tomberont par l’épée leurs petits enfants seront écrasés, et l’on éventrera le ventre de leurs femmes enceintes.

 16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
