1 La charge de Damas. Voici, Damas cesse d'être une ville ; et elle sera un monceau de ruines.

 1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

2 Les villes d'Aroer sont abandonnées ; elles deviendront des parcs pour les troupeaux, qui y reposeront, et personne ne les effraiera.

 2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

3 La forteresse en Ephraim (Éphraïm) cessera aussi, ainsi que le royaume à Damas et le résidu de la Syrie ils seront comme la gloire des enfants d'Israël, dit le SEIGNEUR des armées.

 3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

4 Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, que la gloire de Jacob sera diminuée, et que la graisse de sa chair s'amaigrira.

 4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

5 Et iI en sera comme quand le moissonneur rassemble le grain, et qu'il moissonne les épis avec son bras ; et il en sera comme quand on ramasse les épis dans la vallée de Rephaim (Réphaïm).

 5 And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.

6 ¶ Mais il y restera quelques grappillages, comme quand on secoue l'olivier deux ou trois baies au sommet du plus haut rameau, quatre ou cinq fruits dans ses branches fécondes les plus éloignées, dit le SEIGNEUR, le Dieu d'Israël.

 6 ¶ Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.

7 En ce jour-là, l’homme tournera les yeux vers son Créateur, et ses yeux auront du respect pour le Saint d’Israël.

 7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

8 Et il ne regardera plus vers les autels, l'ouvrage de ses mains, et ne regardera pas ce que ses doigts ont fait, ni les bosquets, ni les gravures.

 8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.

9 ¶ En ce jour-là, ses villes fortes seront comme un rameau abandonné, et comme une branche plus éloignée, qu'ils auront abandonné à cause des enfants d'Israël ; et il y aura désolation.

 9 ¶ In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.

10 Parce que tu as oublié le Dieu de ton salut, et tu ne t'es pas souvenue du rocher de ta fvigueur, c'est pourquoi tu planteras d'agréables plantations, et tu les mettras avec des boutures étrangères.

 10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:

11 De jour tu feras croître ta plante, et le matin tu feras lever ta semence ; mais, la moisson sera un monceau au jour du chagrin et de la douleur désespérée.

 11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

12 ¶ Malheur à la multitude de peuples nombreux qui font un bruit comme le bruit des mers ; et à l'impétuosité des nations, qui se comportent comme l'impétuosité d'eaux puissantes !

 12 ¶ Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

13 Les nations se précipiteront comme l'impétuosité de grandes eaux mais Dieu les réprimandera et elles fuiront au loin, et seront poursuivies comme la balle des montagnes chassées par le vent, et comme une boule devant le tourbillon.

 13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

14 Et dans la soirée, voici l'épouvante ; avant le matin, il n'est plus. C'est là la portion de ceux qui nous dépouillent, et le sort de ceux qui nous volent.

 14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.
