1 Jacques, un serviteur de Dieu et du Seigneur Jésus Christ, aux douze tribus lesquelles sont dispersées de tous côtés, salutation.

 1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

2 Mes frères, considérez-le une complète joie lorsque vous tombez dans diverses tentations;

 2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

3 Sachant ceci, que l’épreuve de votre foi effectue la patience.

 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

4 Mais laissez la patience faire son œuvre parfaite, afin que vous puissiez être parfaits et entiers, ne manquant de rien.

 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

5 Si l’un de vous manque de sagesse, qu’il demande à Dieu, qui donne à tous les hommes libéralement, et ne reproche pas; et elle lui sera donnée.

 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6 Mais qu’il demande avec foi, sans hésitation. Car celui qui hésite est semblable à une vague de la mer conduite par le vent et ballottée.

 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7 Or que cet homme ne pense pas qu’il recevra quoi que ce soit du Seigneur.

 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8 Un homme versatile est instable en tous ses agissements.

 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

9 Que le frère de petite condition se réjouisse en ce qu’il est élevé:

 9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

10 Mais le riche, en ce qu’il est abaissé: parce que comme la fleur de l’herbe il passera.

 10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11 Car le soleil n’est pas plutôt levé avec une chaleur brûlante, mais il dessèche l’herbe, et sa fleur tombe, et la grâce de sa forme périt: ainsi se flétrira aussi l’homme riche dans ses agissements.

 11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

12 Béni est l’homme qui endure la tentation: car lorsqu’il sera éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que le Seigneur a promise à ceux qui l’aiment.

 12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

13 Qu’aucun homme ne dise lorsqu’il est tenté, Je suis tenté par Dieu: car Dieu ne peut être tenté par le mal, il ne tente aucun homme non plus:

 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

14 Mais chaque homme est tenté, lorsqu’il est entraîné et attiré par sa propre convoitise.

 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

15 Puis lorsque la convoitise a conçu, elle enfante le péché: et le péché, lorsqu’il est accompli, enfante la mort.

 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

16 Ne vous égarez pas, mes frères bien-aimés.

 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

17 Tout bon don et tout don parfait est d’en haut, et descend du Père des lumières, avec lequel il n’y a ni variabilité, ni ombre d’une inflexion.

 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

18 De sa propre volonté, il nous a engendrés avec la parole de vérité, afin que nous soyons une sorte de prémices de ses créatures.

 18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

19 C’est pourquoi, mes frères bien-aimés, que tout homme soit prompt à entendre, lent à parler, lent à se courroucer:

 19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20 Car le courroux de l’homme n’effectue pas la droiture de Dieu.

 20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21 C’est pourquoi laissez toute saleté et toute superfluité de méchanceté, et recevez avec soumission la parole greffée, laquelle est capable de sauver vos âmes.

 21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 Mais soyez exécuteurs de la parole, et non pas auditeurs seulement, vous trompant vous-mêmes.

 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23 Car si quelqu’un est un auditeur de la parole, et non un exécuteur, il est semblable à un homme regardant son visage naturel dans un miroir:

 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

24 Car il se regarde, et va son chemin, et aussitôt oublie quelle sorte d’homme il était.

 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25 Mais celui qui scrute dans la loi parfaite de la liberté, et y continue, lui n’étant pas un auditeur oublieux, mais un exécuteur de l’œuvre, cet homme sera béni dans son action.

 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

26 Si un homme parmi vous semble être religieux, et ne met pas un frein à sa langue, mais trompe son propre cœur, la religion de cet homme est vaine.

 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

27 La religion pure et sans souillure devant Dieu et le Père est ceci, Visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leur affliction, et se garder soi-même sans tache provenant du monde.

 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
