1 Mes frères, n’ayez pas la foi de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ, le Seigneur de gloire, en faisant distinction de personnes.

 1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

2 Car s’il vient dans votre assemblée un homme avec un anneau d’or, dans un costume élégant, et que vient aussi un pauvre homme dans un habillement méprisable;

 2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

3 Et que vous fassiez une distinction envers celui qui porte les tenues plaisantes, et vous lui disiez, Assieds-toi ici à une bonne place; et que vous disiez au pauvre, Tiens-toi là debout, ou assieds-toi ici sous mon marchepied:

 3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

4 N’êtes-vous donc pas partiaux en vous-mêmes, et n’êtes-vous pas devenus des juges ayant de mauvaises pensées?

 4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5 Prêtez l’oreille, mes frères bien-aimés, Dieu n’a-t-il pas choisi les pauvres de ce monde, qui abondent en foi, et héritiers du royaume qu’il a promis à ceux qui l’aiment?

 5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

6 Mais vous avez méprisé le pauvre. Les hommes riches ne vous oppriment-ils pas et ne vous traînent-ils pas devant les sièges de jugement?

 6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

7 Ne blasphèment-ils pas ce digne nom par lequel vous êtes appelés?

 7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

8 Si vous accomplissez la loi royale selon l’écriture, Tu aimeras ton voisin comme toi-même, vous faites bien:

 8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

9 Mais si vous faites distinction de personnes, vous commettez un péché, et êtes convaincus par la loi en tant que transgresseurs.

 9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

10 Car quiconque gardera la loi entière, et cependant n’enfreindra en un seul point, il est coupable de tous.

 10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

11 Car celui qui a dit, Ne commets pas d’adultère, a dit aussi, Ne tue pas. Or si tu ne commets pas d’adultère, si cependant tu tues, tu es devenu un transgresseur de la loi.

 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12 Vous parlez ainsi et agissez ainsi, comme ceux qui seront jugés par la loi de la liberté.

 12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

13 Car il prononcera jugement sans miséricorde, pour qui n’a montré aucune miséricorde; et la miséricorde se réjouit à l’égard du jugement.

 13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

14 Quel intérêt y a-t-il, mes frères, si un homme dit qu’il a la foi, et n’a pas les œuvres? La foi peut-elle le sauver?

 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

15 Si un frère ou une sœur sont nus, et manquent de nourriture quotidienne,

 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

16 Et que l’un de vous leur dise, Allez en paix, soyez réchauffés et rassasiés; toutefois si vous ne leur donnez pas ces choses qui sont nécessaires au corps, quel intérêt y a-t-il?

 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17 Oui certainement la foi, si elle ne montre aucune œuvre est morte, étant seule.

 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18 Oui, un homme peut dire, Tu as la foi, et j’ai des œuvres: montre-moi ta foi sans tes œuvres, et je te montrerai ma foi par mes œuvres.

 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

19 Tu crois qu’il n’y a qu’un seul Dieu; tu fais bien: les diables aussi le croient, et tremblent.

 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20 Mais veux-tu savoir, Ô homme vain, que la foi sans œuvres est morte?

 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

21 Abraham notre père, n’a-t-il pas été justifié par ses œuvres, lorsqu’il offrit Isaac, son fils sur l’autel?

 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

22 Vois-tu comment la foi est effectuée avec ses œuvres, et que par les œuvres la foi fut rendue parfaite?

 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

23 Et l’écriture a été réalisée laquelle dit, Abraham crut Dieu, et cela lui fut imputé en tant que droiture: et il fut appelé l’Ami de Dieu.

 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

24 Vous voyez donc comment par ses œuvres un homme est justifié, et non par la foi seulement.

 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

25 De même aussi Rahab la prostituée, n’a-t-elle pas été justifiée par ses œuvres, lorsqu’elle reçut les messagers, et les envoya par un autre chemin?

 25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

26 Car comme le corps sans l’esprit est mort, ainsi la foi sans œuvres est morte aussi.

 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
