1 Et le SEIGNEUR me dit : Quand Moïse et Samuel se tiendraient devant moi, toutefois ma pensée ne pourrait être vers ce peuple ; chasse-les de devant ma vue, et qu’ils sortent.

 1 Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

2 Et il arrivera que s’ils te disent : Où sortirons-nous ? Alors tu leur répondras : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Ceux qui sont pour la mort, à la mort, et ceux qui sont pour l’épée, à l’épée, et ceux qui sont pour la famine, à la famine ; et ceux qui sont pour la captivité, à la captivité.

 2 And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the LORD; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.

3 Et j’établirai sur eux quatre espèces de punitions, dit le SEIGNEUR l’épée pour tuer, et les chiens pour déchiqueter, les oiseaux du ciel et les bêtes de la terre pour dévorer et pour détruire.

 3 And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith the LORD: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.

4 Et je les ferai être déplacés vers tous les royaumes de la terre, à cause de Manasseh (Manassé), le fils d’Hezekiah (Ézéchias), roi de Juda, pour ce qu’il a fait dans Jérusalem.

 4 And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.

5 Car qui aurait pitié de toi, ô Jérusalem ? Ou qui viendrait te plaindre ? Ou qui se détournerait pour demander comment tu te portes ?

 5 For who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou doest?

6 Tu m’as abandonné, dit le SEIGNEUR, tu es allée en arrière ; c’est pourquoi j’étendrai ma main sur toi, et je te détruirai. Je suis las de me repentir.

 6 Thou hast forsaken me, saith the LORD, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.

7 Et je les vannerai avec un van aux portes du pays ; je les priverai d’enfants, je détruirai mon peuple, puisqu’ils ne se sont pas détournés de leurs chemins.

 7 And I will fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children, I will destroy my people, since they return not from their ways.

8 Ses veuves sont multipliées par moi plus que le sable des mers ; j’ai fait venir sur eux, contre la mère des jeunes hommes un dévastateur à midi ; je l’ai fait tomber subitement sur elle, ainsi que les terreurs sur la ville.

 8 Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.

9 Celle qui en avait enfanté sept languit ; elle a rendu l’esprit ; son soleil s’est couché pendant qu’il était encore jour ; elle a été rendue honteuse et décontenancée, et je livrerai son reste à l’épée devant leurs ennemis, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 9 She that hath borne seven languisheth: she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day: she hath been ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the LORD.

10 ¶ Malheur à moi, ma mère, de ce que tu m’as fait naître homme de querelle et homme de contestation à toute la terre ! Je n’ai rien prêté avec intérêt, et on ne m’a pas prêté avec intérêt, néanmoins chacun me maudit.

 10 ¶ Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; yet every one of them doth curse me.

11 Le SEIGNEUR dit : En vérité tout ira bien pour ton reste ; en vérité je ferai que l’ennemi te traite bien au temps du malheur, et au temps de l’affliction.

 11 The LORD said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

12 Le fer brisera-t-il le fer du Nord et l’acier ?

 12 Shall iron break the northern iron and the steel?

13 Ton bien et tes trésors, je les livrerai, sans prix, au pillage, et ceci à cause de tous tes péchés, et même dans toutes tes limites.

 13 Thy substance and thy treasures will I give to the spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders.

14 Et je te ferai passer, avec tes ennemis, dans un pays que tu ne connais pas ; car un feu est allumé dans mon courroux, lequel brûlera contre vous.

 14 And I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.

15 ¶ Ô SEIGNEUR, tu le sais, souviens-toi de moi, et visite-moi, et venge-moi de mes persécuteurs ; ne me retire pas dans ta longanimité ; sache que j’ai souffert la réprobation pour l’amour de toi.

 15 ¶ O LORD, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.

16 Tes paroles se sont-elles trouvées, je les ai aussitôt mangées ; et ta parole m’a été la joie et l’allégresse de mon cœur, car je suis appelé par ton nom, ô SEIGNEUR Dieu des armées.

 16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

17 Je ne me suis pas assis dans l’assemblée des moqueurs, ni ne me suis réjoui ; je me suis assis tout seul à cause de ta main, car tu m’as rempli d’indignation.

 17 I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.

18 Pourquoi ma douleur est-elle continuelle, et ma plaie incurable, laquelle refuse d’être guérie ? Serais-tu pour moi en quelque sorte comme un mensonge, et comme des eaux qui font défaut ?

 18 Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?

19 ¶ C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Si tu retournes, alors je te ramènerai, et tu te tiendras devant moi ; et si tu sépares ce qui est précieux de ce qui est vil, tu seras comme ma bouche ; laisse-les retourner vers toi, mais toi, ne retourne pas vers eux.

 19 ¶ Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

20 Et je te ferai être à ce peuple une muraille de bronze fortifiée, et ils combattront contre toi, mais ils n’auront pas le dessus contre toi ; car je suis avec toi pour te sauver et te délivrer, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 20 And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

21 Et je te délivrerai de la main des méchants, et je te rachèterai de la main des terribles.

 21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.
