1 La parole que Jeremiah (Jérémie), le prophète, dit à Baruch, le fils de Neriah, quand il écrivait dans un livre ces paroles-là, de la bouche de Jeremiah (Jérémie), en la quatrième année de Jehoiakim, le fils de Josiah (Josias), roi de Juda .

1 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

2 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR, le Dieu d’Israël, à ton sujet, Ô Baruch :

2 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch;
|
3 Tu dis : Malheur à moi maintenant ! Car le SEIGNEUR ajoute la tristesse à ma douleur ; je défaillais dans mon gémissement, et je ne trouve pas de repos.

3 Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.
|
4 ¶ Tu lui diras ainsi : le SEIGNEUR dit ainsi : Voici, ce que j’ai bâti, je le briserai ; ce que j’ai planté, je l’arracherai, c'est-à-dire, tout ce pays.

4 ¶ Thus shalt thou say unto him, The LORD saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.

5 Et chercherais-tu de grandes choses pour toi ? Ne les cherche pas ; car voici, je vais faire venir le malheur sur toute chair, dit le SEIGNEUR ; mais je te donnerai ta vie pour butin, dans tous les lieux où tu iras.

5 And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.
