1 La parole du SEIGNEUR qui vint à Jeremiah (Jérémie), le prophète, contre les Philistins, avant que Pharaon ait frappé Gaza.

1 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.
|
2 Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Voici des eaux qui montent du Nord, et elles seront un déluge inondant, et inonderont le pays et tout ce qu’il contient, la ville et ses habitants ; les hommes alors crieront, et tous les habitants du pays hurleront.

2 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

3 Au bruit du retentissement des sabots de ses puissants chevaux, à l’impétuosité de ses chariots, et au grondement de ses roues, les pères ne se retourneront pas vers leurs enfants, à cause de la faiblesse de leurs mains.

3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;
|
4 Parce que le jour qui vient pour saccager tous les Philistins, et pour retrancher à Tyre (Tyr) et à Sidon quiconque resterait pour les aider : Car le SEIGNEUR dévastera les Philistins, le reste du pays de Caphtor.

4 Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

5 Gaza est devenue chauve. Ashkelon (Askélon), avec le reste de leur vallée ; jusqu’à quand te feras-tu des incisions ?

5 Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?
|
6 Ò toi, épée du SEIGNEUR, jusqu’à quand dureras-tu sans t’arrêter ? Rentre dans ton fourreau, repose-toi, et tiens-toi tranquille.
|
6 O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.
|
7 Comment peut-elle s’arrêter, puisque le SEIGNEUR lui a donné charge contre Ashkelon (Askélon) et contre le rivage de la mer ? là il l’a assignée.
|
7 How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.
