1 Appelle maintenant, s’il y a quelqu’un qui te réponde ; et vers lequel des saints te tourneras-tu ?

 1 Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?

2 Car la colère tue l’insensé, et l’envie fait mourir le sot.

 2 For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.

3 J’ai vu l’insensé s’enraciner, mais soudain j’ai maudit son habitation.

 3 I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

4 Ses enfants sont éloignés de la sécurité, et ils sont écrasés à la porte, et il n’y a personne pour les délivrer ;

 4 His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

5 Sa moisson, l’affamé la dévore, et même la lui prend d’entre les épines ; et le voleur engloutit leurs biens.

 5 Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

6 Quoique l’affliction ne sort pas de la poussière, ni la détresse ne germe du sol,

 6 Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

7 Car l’homme est né pour avoir des ennuis, comme les étincelles volent en haut.

 7 Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

8 J’aurais recherché Dieu, et à Dieu je remettrais ma cause,

 8 I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

9 Qui fait de grandes et insondables choses, de merveilleuses choses sans nombre ;

 9 Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:

10 Qui donne la pluie sur la terre, et qui envoie les eaux sur les champs ;

 10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:

11 Qui établi dans les hauts lieux ceux qui sont abattus, et ceux qui sont en deuil puissent être élevés vers la sécurité.

 11 To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.

12 Il dissipe les stratagèmes des hommes rusés, en sorte que leurs mains n’exécutent pas leurs projets.

 12 He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

13 Il surprend les sages dans leurs propres artifices, et le conseil des obstinés est emporté précipitamment.

 13 He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

14 De jour, ils rencontrent l’obscurité, et ils tâtonnent en plein midi, comme dans la nuit.

 14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

15 Mais il sauve le pauvre de l’épée, de leur bouche, et de la main du puissant.

 15 But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

16 Ainsi le pauvre a de l’espoir, et l’iniquité a la bouche fermée.

 16 So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

17 Voici, heureux est l’homme que Dieu corrige ; c’est pourquoi ne méprise pas le châtiment du Tout-Puissant.

 17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

18 Car c’est lui qui fait la plaie et la bande ; il blesse et ses mains guérissent.

 18 For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

19 Il te délivrera dans six afflictions ; oui, à la septième, le mal ne te touchera pas.

 19 He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

20 En temps de famine, il te rachètera de la mort, et en temps de guerre, de la puissance de l’épée.

 20 In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

21 Tu seras tenu caché du fléau de la langue, et tu n’auras pas peur non plus de la destruction, quand elle arrivera.

 21 Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

22 Tu riras de la destruction et de la famine, et tu n’auras pas peur non plus des bêtes de la terre.

 22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

23 Car tu seras en accord avec les pierres des champs, et les bêtes des champs seront en paix avec toi.

 23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

24 Et tu sauras que la paix sera dans ton tabernacle ; et tu visiteras ton habitation et ne pécheras pas,

 24 And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.

25 Tu sauras aussi que ta semence sera grande ; et ta progéniture comme l’herbe de la terre.

 25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

26 Tu iras dans la tombe à un age avancé, comme un tas de gerbes qu’on emporte en sa saison.

 26 Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

27 Voilà, nous avons examiné cela ; il en est ainsi, écoute-le pour ton bien.

 27 Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
