1 Et Job répondit et dit :

 1 And Job answered and said,

2 Sans aucun doute vous n’êtes que des hommes, et la sagesse mourra avec vous.

 2 No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

3 Mais j’ai de l’intelligence aussi bien que vous, je ne vous suis pas inférieur ; oui, qui ne connaît de telles choses ?

 3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these?

4 Je suis comme un homme qui est la risée de son voisin, et qui appelle Dieu, et il lui répond : l’homme juste, intègre est un objet de sarcasme .

 4 I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.

5 Celui qui est prêt à glisser avec ses pieds, est comme une lampe méprisée selon la pensée de celui qui est à son aise.

 5 He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.

6 Les tabernacles des voleurs prospèrent et ceux qui provoquent Dieu sont en sécurité, dans la main desquels Dieu remet abondamment.

 6 The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.

7 Mais interroge donc les bêtes, et elles t’enseigneront ; et les oiseaux en l’air, et ils te le déclareront ;

 7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

8 Ou parle à la terre, et elle t’enseignera ; et les poissons de la mer te le raconteront.

 8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

9 Qui ne connaît toutes ces choses, que la main de Dieu a fait cela ?

 9 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

10 En la main duquel est l’âme de chaque être vivant, et le souffle de toute l’humanité.

 10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

11 L’oreille n’éprouve-t-elle pas les mots ? Comme le palais goûte les aliments ?

 11 Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?

12 La sagesse est chez les gens âgés, et dans le nombre de jours est l’intelligence.

 12 With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.

13 En lui est sagesse et vigueur ; il possède conseil et intelligence.

 13 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.

14 Voici, il démolit, et on ne rebâtit pas ; il enferme un homme, et on ne lui ouvre pas.

 14 Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.

15 Voici, il retient les eaux, et elles tarissent ; il les lâche, et elles bouleversent la terre.

 15 Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.

16 En lui est vigueur et sagesse ; celui qui est trompé et le trompeur sont à lui.

 16 With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

17 Il conduit au loin les conseillers dépouillés ; et rend insensés les juges.

 17 He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.

18 Il relâche l’autorité des rois, et il serre leurs reins d’une ceinture.

 18 He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.

19 Il conduit au loin les princes dépouillés, et renverse les puissants.

 19 He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.

20 Il ôte l’allocution aux plus assurés, et il prive d’intelligence les gens âgés.

 20 He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.

21 Il verse le mépris sur les princes, et affaiblit la vigueur des puissants.

 21 He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.

22 Il met en évidence hors de l’obscurité les choses profondes, et il amène à la lumière l’ombre de la mort.

 22 He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.

23 Il agrandit les nations, et les détruit ; il élargit les nations, et il les rétrécit à nouveau.

23 He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.

24 Il ôte le cœur aux chefs des peuples de la terre, et il les fait errer dans un désert où il n’y a pas de chemin.

 24 He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

25 Ils tâtonnent dans l’obscurité sans aucune lumière, et il les fait errer comme un homme ivre.

 25 They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.
