1 Alors Job répondit et dit :

 1 Then Job answered and said,

2 Jusques à quand contrarierez-vous mon âme, et me briserez-vous en morceaux par des paroles ?

 2 How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?

3 Voici déjà dix fois que vous m’outragez vous n’avez pas honte en procédant ainsi étrangement envers moi.

 3 These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.

4 Mais quand il serait vrai que j’ai erré, mon erreur demeure avec moi.

 4 And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.

5 Si vraiment vous voulez parler avec hauteur contre moi, et argumenter contre moi de mon outrage,

 5 If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:

6 Sachez donc que c’est Dieu qui m’a renversé, et qui m’a entouré de son filet.

 6 Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.

7 Voici, je crie à l’outrage, mais je ne suis pas entendu ; je crie très fort, mais il n’y a pas de jugement.

 7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.

8 Il a enclos mon chemin pour que je ne puisse passer ; il a mis l’obscurité sur mes sentiers.

 8 He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

9 Il m’a dépouillé de ma gloire ; et a ôté la couronne de ma tête.

 9 He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

10 Il m’a détruit de tous côtés, et je m’en vais ; il a retiré mon espérance, comme un arbre.

 10 He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.

11 Il a aussi embrasé sa colère contre moi, et il m’a compté comme l’un de ses ennemis.

 11 He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.

12 Ses troupes viennent ensemble, et dressent leur chemin contre moi, et campent autour de mon tabernacle.

 12 His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.

13 Il a éloigné de moi mes frères, et ceux de ma connaissance sont tout à fait étrangers de moi ;

 13 He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.

14 Ma parenté m’a abandonné, et mes amis intimes m’ont oublié.

 14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.

15 Ceux qui demeurent dans ma maison et mes servantes me tiennent pour un étranger ; je suis un inconnu à leurs yeux.

 15 They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.

16 J’ai appelé mon serviteur, il ne m’a pas répondu ; je l’ai supplié de ma bouche.

 16 I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.

17 Mon haleine est devenue étrange à ma femme, quoique je l’aie supplié par les enfants de mon ventre.

 17 My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children’s sake of mine own body.

18 Oui, les jeunes enfants me méprisent si je me lève, ils parlent contre moi.

 18 Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.

19 Tous mes confidents m’ont en abomination, et ceux que j’aimais se sont tournés contre moi.

 19 All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.

20 Mes os s’attachent à ma peau et à ma chair, et je me suis échappé avec la peau de mes dents.

 20 My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.

21 Ayez pitié de moi, ayez pitié de moi, ô vous, mes amis, car la main de Dieu m’a touché.

 21 Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.

22 Pourquoi me persécutez-vous comme Dieu, et n’êtes-vous pas rassasiés de ma chair ?

 22 Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

23 Oh, que maintenant mes paroles soient écrites ! oh qu’elles soient imprimées dans un livre !

 23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!

24 Qu’avec un style de fer et du plomb, elles soient gravées dans le roc pour toujours !

 24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!

25 Car je sais que mon rédempteur est vivant, et qu’au dernier jour il se tiendra debout sur la terre,

 25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

26 Et bien qu’après cette peau, des vers détruiront ce corps, toutefois en ma chair je verrai Dieu ;

 26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

27 Lequel je verrai pour moi-même ; et mes yeux le contempleront, et non un autre ; encore que mes reins se consument en moi.

 27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

28 Vous devriez plutôt dire : Pourquoi le persécutons-nous, puisque la racine du fait se trouve en moi ?

 28 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?

29 Ayez peur de l’épée car la colère apporte la punition de l’épée, afin que vous sachiez qu’il y a un jugement.

 29 Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.
