1 Pourquoi voyant que les temps ne sont pas cachés du Tout-Puissant, ceux qui le connaissent ne voient-ils pas ses jours ?

 1 Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?

2 Quelques-uns déplacent les bornes ; ils emportent avec violence les troupeaux, et les font paître ;

 2 Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof.

3 Ils emmènent l’âne des orphelins, ils prennent pour gage le bœuf de la veuve ;

 3 They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.

4 Ils écartent les nécessiteux du chemin, et les pauvres de la terre se cachent ensemble.

 4 They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.

5 Voici, comme des ânes sauvages dans le lieu aride, ils sortent pour leur travail, se levant tôt pour une proie ; le désert produit du pain pour eux et pour leurs enfants.

 5 Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.

6 Ils moissonnent chacun son grain dans les champs, ils recueillent la vendange du malfaisant ;

 6 They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.

7 Ils obligent à passer la nuit sans vêtement à ceux qu’ils ont dépouillés, si bien qu’ils n’ont pas de quoi se couvrir contre le froid ;

 7 They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold.

8 Ils sont tout mouillés par les averses des montagnes, et ils embrassent le roc faute d’abri.

 8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.

9 Ils arrachent l’orphelin de la mamelle, et prennent des gages sur le pauvre,

 9 They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.

10 Ils font aller sans vêtements l’homme nu, et enlèvent la gerbe aux affamés.

 10 They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry;

11 Ceux qui pressent l’huile entre leurs murailles, et ils piétinent leurs pressoirs, et souffrent de soif.

 11 Which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.

12 Les hommes de la ville gémissent, et l’âme des blessés crie ; toutefois Dieu ne leur impute pas cette folie

 12 Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.

13 Ils sont de ceux qui sont rebelles à la lumière, ils ne connaissent pas ses chemins, ni ne demeurent dans ses sentiers.

 13 They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.

14 Le meurtrier se levant avec la lumière tue le pauvre et le nécessiteux, et la nuit, il est comme un voleur.

 14 The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.

15 L’œil aussi de l’adultère guette le crépuscule, en disant : Aucun œil ne me verra, et se cache le visage.

 15 The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.

16 Dans le noir, ils pénètrent dans les maisons, qu’ils avaient marquées pour eux le jour, ils ne connaissent pas la lumière.

 16 In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.

17 Car le matin est pour eux comme l’ombre de la mort ; si quelqu’un les reconnaît, c’est pour eux les terreurs d’ombre de mort.

 17 For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

18 Il est rapide comme les eaux ; leur portion est maudite sur la terre ; ils ne contemplent plus le chemin des vignes.

 18 He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.

19 La sécheresse et la chaleur consument les eaux de la neige ; ainsi fait la tombe à ceux qui ont péché.

 19 Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned.

20 L’utérus l’oubliera ; les vers se régaleront de lui ; on ne se souviendra plus de lui ; et la malfaisance sera coupée comme un arbre.

 20 The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

21 Lui le mauvais tourmente la femme stérile qui n’enfante pas, et ne fait aucun bien à la veuve ;

 21 He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.

22 Il attire aussi les puissants par son pouvoir ; il se lève et personne n’est sûr de sa vie

 22 He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.

23 Bien qu’il lui soit donné d’être en sécurité, sur laquelle il s’appuie, toutefois ses yeux sont sur leurs chemins.

 23 Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.

24 Ils sont élevés pour peu de temps, puis ils ne sont plus et s’ont abaissées, ils sont emportés comme tous les autres, et sont coupés comme la tête d’un épi.

 24 They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.

25 Et si cela n’est pas ainsi, qui me fera menteur, et rendra mon allocution à néant ?

 25 And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
