1 C’est pourquoi, Job, je te prie, écoute mes allocutions, et prête l’oreille à toutes mes paroles.

 1 Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

2 Voici, maintenant j’ai ouvert la bouche, ma langue a parlé dans ma bouche.

 2 Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.

3 Mes paroles seront selon la rectitude de mon cœur ; et mes lèvres prononceront le savoir clairement.

 3 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

4 L’Esprit de Dieu m’a fait, et le souffle du Tout-Puissant m’a donné la vie.

 4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

5 Si tu peux me répondre, mets en ordre tes paroles devant moi, et mets-toi debout.

 5 If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.

6 Voici, je suis selon ton désir à la place de Dieu ; je suis aussi formé d’argile.

 6 Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

7 Voici, ma terreur ne te fera pas peur, et ma main ne sera pas pesante sur toi.

 7 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.

8 Certainement, tu as parlé à mes oreilles, et j’ai entendu le son de tes paroles, disant :

 8 Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

9 Je suis pur, sans transgression ; je suis innocent, il n’y a pas d’iniquité en moi.

 9 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

10 Voici, il trouve des occasions de querelles contre moi, il m’estime son ennemi ;

 10 Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,

11 Il met mes pieds dans les chaînes, il surveille tous mes sentiers.

 11 He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

12 Voici, en cela, tu n’es pas juste, je te répondrai que Dieu est plus grand que l’homme.

 12 Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

13 Pourquoi te disputes-tu contre lui ? car il ne rend pas compte d’aucune de ses actions.

 13 Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

14 Car Dieu parle une fois, oui deux fois, toutefois l’homme ne s’en aperçoit pas ;

 14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

15 Dans un rêve, dans une vision de nuit, quand un profond sommeil tombe sur les hommes, lorsqu’ils dorment sur leur lit ;

 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

16 Alors il ouvre l’oreille aux hommes, et scelle leur instruction,

 16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

17 Afin qu’il puisse détourner l’homme de son intention, et de cacher la fierté à l’homme,

 17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

18 Ainsi il retient son âme de la fosse, et sa vie de périr par l’épée.

 18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

19 Il est aussi châtié par la douleur sur son lit, et la multitude de ses os par une forte douleur.

 19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:

20 Tellement que sa vie lui fait avoir en horreur le pain, et son âme les mets désirables.

 20 So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.

21 Sa chair est tellement consumée qu’on ne la voit plus ; et ses os qu’on ne voyait pas, ressortent.

 21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.

22 Oui, son âme approche de la tombe, et sa vie des exterminateurs.

 22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

23 S’il y a auprès de lui un messager, un interprète, un entre mille, pour montrer à l’homme son intégrité,

 23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:

24 Alors il est gracieux envers luiet dit : Délivre-le afin qu’il ne descende pas dans la fosse j’ai trouvé une rançon.

 24 Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

25 Sa chair deviendra plus fraîche que celle d’un enfant ; il reviendra aux jours de sa jeunesse.

 25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:

26 Il priera Dieu, et il lui sera favorable ; et il verra sa face avec joie, car il rendra à l’homme sa rectitude.

 26 He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

27 Il regarde vers les hommes, et si quelqu’un dit : J’avais péché et perverti ce qui était droit, et cela ne m’avait pas profité.

 27 He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

28 Il délivrera son âme, afin qu’elle n’aille pas dans la fosse, et sa vie verra la lumière.

 28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

29 Voilà, Dieu fait toutes ces choses diverses fois envers l’homme,

 29 Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,

30 Pour ramener son âme de la fosse, pour qu’elle soit éclairée de la lumière des vivants.

 30 To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

31 Remarque bien, ô Job, sois-moi attentif ; tais-toi, et je parlerai.

 31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.

32 Si tu as quelque chose à dire, réponds-moi ; parle, car je désire te justifier.

 32 If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.

33 Sinon, sois-moi attentif ; tais-toi, et je t’enseignerai la sagesse.

 33 If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
