1 Élihu continua de répondre et dit :

 1 Furthermore Elihu answered and said,

2 O vous, hommes sages, écoutez mes paroles ; et vous qui avez de la connaissance, prêtez-moi l’oreille.

 2 Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3 Car l’oreille éprouve les paroles, comme la bouche goûte les aliments.

 3 For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

4 Choisissons-nous le jugement ; reconnaissons entre nous ce qui est bon.

 4 Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.

5 Car Job a dit : Je suis droit, et Dieu a retiré de moi mon jugement ;

 5 For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.

6 Mentirai-je à mon droit ? ma blessure est incurable sans transgression.

 6 Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.

7 Qui est l’homme tel que Job, qui boit le sarcasme comme l’eau ?

 7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?

8 Qui va en compagnie des ouvriers d’iniquité, et qui marche avec les hommes malfaisants ?

 8 Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.

9 Car il a dit : Il ne profite de rien à l’homme de prendre plaisir à servir Dieu.

 9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

10 C’est pourquoi écoutez-moi ,vous, hommes d’intelligence, loin de Dieu qu’il agisse avec malfaisance, et loin du Tout-Puissant qu’il commette l’iniquité.

 10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

11 Car il rendra à l’homme selon son œuvre, et il fera trouver à chacun selon ses chemins.

 11 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

12 Oui, certainement Dieu n’agira pas avec malveillance, et le Tout-Puissant ne pervertira pas non plus le juste jugement.

 12 Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

13 Qui lui a donné en charge la terre ? ou qui a établi le monde entier ?

 13 Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?

14 S’il mettait son cœur sur l’homme, s’il recueillait à lui son esprit et son souffle,

 14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

15 Toute chair périrait ensemble, et l’homme retournerait à la poussière.

 15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

16 Si donc tu as de l’intelligence, écoute ceci ; sois attentif à la voix de mes paroles.

 16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.

17 Comment celui qui hait le droit gouvernera-t-il ? Et condamneras-tu celui qui est puissamment juste ?

 17 Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?

18 Est-ce à propos de dire à un roi, tu es malveillant ? et aux princes, vous êtes impies ?

 18 Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?

19 Combien moins à celui qui n’a pas d’égard à la personne des princes, ni ne considère le riche plutôt que le pauvre ? car ils sont tous l’ouvrage de ses mains

 19 How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

20 En un moment ils mourront, et le peuple sera agité à minuit, et passera ; et le puissant sera emporté sans main d’homme.

20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

21 Car ses yeux sont sur les chemins de l’homme, et il voit tous ses pas.

 21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.

22 Il n’y a ni obscurité ni ombre de la mort, où se puissent cacher les ouvriers d’iniquité.

 22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23 Car il n’imputera pas à l’homme au-delà de ce qu’il mérite, lorsqu’il doit aller devant Dieu en jugement.

 23 For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

24 Il brisera en morceaux les hommes puissants sans en trouver le nombre, et il en établira d’autres à leur place,

 24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.

25 Parce qu’il connaît leurs œuvres ; il les renverse de nuit, ainsi ils sont détruits.

 25 Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

26 Il les frappe comme des hommes malfaisants à la vue de tout le monde,

 26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;

27 Parce qu’ils se sont détournés de lui, et n’ont considéré aucun de ses chemins.

 27 Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:

28 En sorte qu’ils ont fait monter le cri du pauvre jusqu’à lui, et il entend le cri des affligés.

 28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

29 Quand il donne le repos, qui alors peut causer de l’agitation ? et quand il cache sa face, qui alors peut le contempler ? soit que ce soit contre une nation, soit seulement contre un homme,

 29 When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

30 Afin que l’hypocrite ne règne pas, de peur que le peuple ne soit pas pris au piège.

 30 That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.

31 Certainement il est convenable d’avoir dit à Dieu : J’ai portéton châtiment, je ne commettrai plus d’offense ;

 31 Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

32 Toi enseigne-moi, ce que je ne vois pas ; si j’ai commis l’iniquité, je ne continuerai plus.

 32 That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

33 Devrait –il en être selon ta pensée ? Il récompensera soit que tu refuses, soit que tu choisisses, et non pas moi c’est pourquoi, dis ce que tu sais.

 33 Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.

34 Que les hommes de bon sens me disent, et que l’homme sage m’écoute.

 34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.

35 Job a parlé sans connaissance, et ses paroles étaient sans sagesse.

 35 Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.

36 Je voudrais que Job soit éprouvé jusqu’à la fin, pour avoir répondu comme les hommes iniques.

 36 My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.

37 Car il ajoute la rébellion à son péché ; il frappe des mains parmi nous, et multiplie ses paroles contre Dieu.

 37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
