1 Puis Élihu poursuivit et dit :

 1 Elihu also proceeded, and said,

2 Attends-moi un peu et je te montrerai que j’ai encore à parler pour Dieu.

 2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.

3 Je chercherai de loin mon savoir, et j’attribuerai droit à mon Créateur.

 3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

4 Car certainement mes paroles ne sont pas fausses ; celui qui est parfait en connaissance est avec toi.

 4 For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.

5 Voici, Dieu est puissant, et ne méprise aucun ; il est puissant en vigueur et en sagesse.

 5 Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

6 Il ne conserve pas la vie du malfaisant, mais donne droit aux pauvres.

 6 He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.

7 Il ne retire pas ses yeux des hommes droits, mais ils sont avec les rois près du trône, oui, il les y fait asseoir pour toujours, et ils sont élevés.

 7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.

8 Et s’ils sont mis aux fers, et sont pris dans les cordes de l’affliction,

 8 And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;

9 Alors iI leur montre leurs actes, et leurs transgressions lesquelles ont beaucoup accru.

 9 Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

10 Il ouvre aussi leur oreille à la discipline, et leur ordonne qu’ils se détournent de l’iniquité.

 10 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

11 S’ils lui obéissent, et le servent, ils achèveront leurs jours dans la prospérité, et leurs années dans les plaisirs.

 11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

12 Mais s’ils n’obéissent pas, ils périront par l’épée, et ils mourront sans connaissance.

 12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

13 Mais les cœurs des hypocrites amassent la colère ; ils ne crient pas quand il les lie.

 13 But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.

14 lIs meurent jeunes, et leur vie est parmi les impurs.

 14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.

15 Il délivre le pauvre de son affliction, et leur ouvre l’oreille dans l’oppression.

 15 He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.

16 Et même il t’aurait aussi tiré hors de la détresse en un lieu large où il n’y a pas d’étreinte ; et ta table aurait été pleine de viande grasse.

 16 Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.

17 Mais tu as rempli le jugement du malfaisant, jugement et justice te saisiront.

 17 But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.

18 Parce qu’il y a colère, prends garde qu’il ne t’enlève d’un coup, alors une grande rançon ne pourra te délivrer.

 18 Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.

19 Considérerait-il tes richesses ? non, ni l’or ni tous les moyens de ton pouvoir.

 19 Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

20 Ne souhaite pas la nuit, en laquelle les peuples sont retirés de leur place.

 20 Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.

21 Prends garde à toi, ne te tourne pas vers l’iniquité ; car c’est ce que tu as choisi plutôt que l’affliction.

 21 Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.

22 Voici, Dieu élève par sa puissance ; qui enseigne comme lui ?

 22 Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?

23 Qui lui a prescrit son chemin ? Et qui peut dire : Tu as fait résulter l’iniquité ?

 23 Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?

24 Souviens-toi de magnifier son ouvrage, que les hommes contemplent.

 24 Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.

25 Tout homme peut le voir, chacun peut le contempler de loin.

 25 Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off.

26 Voici, Dieu est grand, et nous ne le connaissons pas, et le nombre de ses années est insondable.

 26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

27 Car il rend petites les gouttes d’eau, elles répandent la pluie selon la vapeur qui la contient ;

 27 For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:

28 Laquelle les nuages font couler et distillent sur l’homme en abondance.

 28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.

29 Et qui aussi peut comprendre le déploiement des nuages, et le fracas de son tabernacle ?

 29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?

30 Voici, il étend sa lumière dessus, et il couvre le fond de la mer.

 30 Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.

31 Car, par ces choses il juge les peuples, il donne la nourriture en abondance.

 31 For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.

32 Il couvre la lumière par les nuages, et lui ordonne de ne pas briller au travers du nuage qui vient entre les deux.

 32 With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.

33 Son bruit le démontre, et même le bétail ressent la vapeur qui monte.

 33 The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.
