1 Quiconque croit que Jésus est le Christ est né de Dieu: et quiconque aime celui qui l’a engendré, aime aussi celui qui est engendré de lui.

 1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

2 Par ceci nous savons que nous aimons les enfants de Dieu, quand nous aimons Dieu, et gardons ses commandements.

 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3 Car ceci est l’amour de Dieu, que nous gardions ses commandements: et ses commandements ne sont pas pénibles.

 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4 Car tout ce qui est né de Dieu l’emporte sur le monde: et ceci est la victoire qui l’emporte sur le monde, à savoir notre foi.

 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5 Qui est celui qui vainc le monde, sinon celui qui croit que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu?

 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

6 C’est celui qui est venu par l’eau et par le sang à savoir Jésus Christ; non par l’eau seulement, mais par l’eau et le sang. Et c’est l’Esprit qui rend témoignage, parce que l’Esprit est vérité.

 6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7 Car il y en a trois qui attestent au ciel, le Père, la Parole, et l’Esprit Saint: et ces trois-là sont un.

 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8 Et il y en a trois qui rendent témoignage sur la terre, l’Esprit, et l’eau et le sang: et ces trois s’accordent en un seul.

 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

9 Si nous recevons le témoignage des hommes, le témoignage de Dieu est plus grand: car c’est là le témoignage de Dieu lequel il a attesté de son Fils.

 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

10 Celui qui croit au Fils de Dieu, a le témoignage en lui-même: celui qui ne croit pas Dieu a fait de lui un menteur; parce qu’il ne croit pas l’attestation que Dieu a donnée de son Fils.

 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 Et ceci est l’attestation, que Dieu nous a donné la vie éternelle, et cette vie est dans son Fils.

 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 Celui qui a le Fils a la vie; et celui qui n’a pas le Fils de Dieu n’a pas la vie.

 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 Ces choses les ai-je écrites à vous qui croyez au nom du Fils de Dieu; afin que vous puissiez savoir que vous avez la vie éternelle, et afin que vous puissiez croire au nom du Fils de Dieu.

 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14 Et ceci est l’assurance que nous avons en lui, que, si nous demandons quoi que ce soit selon sa volonté, il nous entend:

 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 Et si nous savons qu’il nous entend, quoi que nous demandions, nous savons que nous obtenons les requêtes que nous désirons de lui.

 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

16 Si quelqu’un voit son frère pécher d’un péché qui n’est pas à la mort, il demandera, et il lui donnera la vie pour ceux qui ne pèchent pas à la mort. Il y a un péché qui mène à la mort: je ne dis pas qu’il prie pour cela.

 16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

17 Toute injustice est péché: et il y a un péché qui ne mène pas à la mort.

 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

18 Nous savons que quiconque est né de Dieu ne pèche pas; mais celui qui est engendré de Dieu se garde lui-même, et que le malin ne le touche pas.

 18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

19 Et nous savons que nous sommes de Dieu, et que le monde entier gît dans l’immoralité.

 19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

20 Et nous savons que le Fils de Dieu est venu, et il nous a donné une compréhension, afin que nous puissions connaître celui qui est vrai, et nous sommes en clui qui est vrai, à savoir en son Fils Jésus Christ. C’est lui le vrai Dieu, et la vie éternelle.

 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21 Petits enfants, gardez-vous des idoles. Amen.

 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
