1 Au commencement était la Parole, et la Parole était avec Dieu, et la Parole était Dieu.

 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 Celui-ci était au commencement avec Dieu.

 2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 Toutes choses ont été faites par lui; et sans lui aucune chose n’a été faite de ce qui a été fait.

 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 En lui était la vie; et la vie était la lumière des hommes.

 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 Et la lumière brille dans l’obscurité; et l’obscurité ne l’a pas comprise.

 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6 ¶ Il y eut un homme envoyé de Dieu, dont le nom était Jean.

 6 ¶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7 Celui-ci vint comme un témoin, pour rendre témoignage de la Lumière, afin que tous les hommes par lui puissent croire.

 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8 Il n’était pas cette Lumière, mais il était envoyé pour rendre témoignage de cette Lumière.

 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9 Qui était la vraie Lumière, qui éclaire tout homme qui vient au monde.

 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10 Il était dans le monde et le monde a été fait par lui, et le monde ne l’a pas connu.

 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11 Il est venu chez les siens, et les siens ne l’ont pas reçu.

 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 Mais à tous ceux qui l’ont reçu, à eux il a donné pouvoir de devenir les fils de Dieu, c’est-à-dire, à ceux qui croient en son nom:

 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Lesquels sont nés, non du sang, ni de la volonté de la chair, ni de la volonté de l’homme, mais de Dieu.

 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 Et la Parole a été faite chair, et a demeuré parmi nous (et nous avons contemplé sa gloire, la gloire comme du seul engendré du Père), pleine de grâce et de vérité.

 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15 ¶ Jean porta témoignage de lui, et a crié, disant: C’était celui dont je disais: Celui qui vient après moi m’est préféré: car il était avant moi.

 15 ¶ John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16 Et de sa plénitude, nous avons tous reçu, et grâce pour grâce.

 16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17 Car la loi a été donnée par Moïse, mais grâce et vérité sont venues par Jésus Christ.

 17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18 Aucun homme n’a vu Dieu à aucun moment; le seul Fils engendré, qui est dans le sein du Père, lui, l’a déclaré.

 18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

19 ¶ Et c’est ici l’attestation de Jean, lorsque les Juifs envoyèrent de Jérusalem, prêtres et Lévites pour lui demander: Qui es-tu?

 19 ¶ And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

20 Et il confessa, et ne nia pas; mais confessa: Je ne suis pas le Christ.

 20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

21 Et ils lui demandèrent: Quoi donc? Es-tu Élie? Et il dit: Je ne le suis pas. Es-tu ce prophète? Et il répondit: Non.

 21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

22 Puis ils lui dirent: Qui es-tu? afin que nous puissions donner une réponse à ceux qui nous ont envoyés. Que dis-tu de toi-même?

 22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

23 Il dit: Je suis la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: Rendez droit le chemin du Seigneur, comme a dit le prophète Ésaïe.

 23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

24 Et ceux qui avaient été envoyés étaient d’entre les Pharisiens.

 24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

25 Et ils lui demandèrent, et lui dirent: Pourquoi alors baptises-tu, si tu n’es ni ce Christ, ni Élie, ni ce prophète?

 25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

26 Jean leur répondit, disant: Je baptise avec l’eau: mais un se tient au milieu de vous, que vous ne connaissez pas;

 26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

27 C’est lui qui venant après moi m’est préféré, dont je ne suis pas digne de délier le lacet de ses chaussures.

 27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

28 Ces choses arrivèrent à Bethabara, au-delà du Jourdain, où Jean baptisait.

 28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29 ¶ Le lendemain, Jean voit Jésus venant vers lui, et dit: Voici l’Agneau de Dieu, lequel ôte le péché du monde.

 29 ¶ The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

30 C’est celui duquel je disais: Après moi vient un homme qui m’est préféré: car il était avant moi.

 30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

31 Et je ne le connaissais pas: mais afin qu’il soit rendu manifeste à Israël, je suis donc venu baptisant avec l’eau.

 31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

32 Et Jean attesta, disant: J’ai vu l’Esprit descendant du ciel comme une colombe, et il demeura sur lui.

 32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33 Et je ne le connaissais pas: mais celui qui m’a envoyé baptiser avec l’eau, celui-là m’avait dit: Celui sur qui tu verras l’Esprit descendre et demeurer sur lui, celui-là est celui qui baptise avec l’Esprit Saint.

 33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34 Et j’ai vu, et ai attesté que c’est lui le Fils de Dieu.

 34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

35 ¶ De nouveau le lendemain, Jean se tenait avec deux de ses disciples;

 35 ¶ Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;

36 Et regardant Jésus tandis qu’il marchait, il dit: Voici l’Agneau de Dieu!

 36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

37 Et les deux disciples l’entendirent parler, et ils suivirent Jésus.

 37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

38 Alors Jésus se retourna et les vit le suivant, et leur dit: Que cherchez-vous? Ils lui dirent: Rabbi (ce qui veut dire, étant interprété, Maître), où demeures-tu?

 38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

39 Il leur dit: Venez et voyez. Ils vinrent et virent où il demeurait, et restèrent avec lui ce jour-là: car il était environ la dixième heure.

 39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

40 Un des deux qui avaient entendu Jean parler et l’avaient suivi, était André, frère de Simon Pierre.

 40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

41 Il trouva d’abord son propre frère Simon, et lui dit: Nous avons trouvé le Messie, qui est, étant interprété, le Christ.

 41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

42 Et il l’amena à Jésus. Et lorsque Jésus le regarda, il dit: Tu es Simon, le fils de Jonas: tu seras appelé Céphas qui est par interprétation, Une pierre.

 42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

43 ¶ Le jour suivant, Jésus voulut aller en Galilée, et trouve Philippe, et lui dit: Suis-moi.

 43 ¶ The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

44 Or Philippe était de Bethsaida, la ville d’André et de Pierre.

 44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

45 Philippe trouve Nathanël, et lui dit: Nous l’avons trouvé, celui duquel Moïse dans la loi et les prophètes ont écrit, Jésus de Nazareth, le fils de Joseph.

 45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

46 Et Nathanël lui dit: Peut-il venir quelque chose de bon de Nazareth? Philippe lui dit: Viens et vois.

 46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

47 Jésus vit Nathanël venant à lui, et il dit de lui: Voici en effet un Israélite, en qui il n’y a aucune duplicité!

 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

48 Nathanël lui dit: D’où me connais-tu? Jésus répondit et lui dit: Avant que Philippe t’ait appelé, quand tu étais sous le figuier, je te voyais.

 48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

49 Nathanël répondit et lui dit: Rabbi, tu es le Fils de Dieu; tu es le Roi d’Israël.

 49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

50 Jésus répondit et lui dit: Parce que je t’ai dit, que je te voyais sous le figuier, tu crois? Tu verras de plus grandes choses que celles-ci.

 50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

51 Et il lui dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous dis: Désormais vous verrez le ciel ouvert, et les anges de Dieu montant et descendant sur le Fils de l’homme.

 51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
