1 Quand donc le Seigneur sut que les Pharisiens avaient entendu dire que Jésus faisait et baptisait plus de disciples que Jean,

 1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

2 (Toutefois Jésus ne baptisait pas lui-même, mais ses disciples),

 2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

3 Il quitta la Judée et partit de nouveau en Galilée.

 3 He left Judæa, and departed again into Galilee.

4 Et il devait traverser la Samarie.

 4 And he must needs go through Samaria.

5 Puis il vient à une ville de Samarie, qui est appelée Sichar près de la parcelle de terre que Jacob donna à son fils Joseph.

 5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

6 Or le puits de Jacob se trouvait là. Jésus donc, étant fatigué de son voyage, s’assit ainsi sur le puits: et c’était environ la sixième heure.

 6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

7 Il vient une femme de Samarie pour puiser de l’eau: Jésus lui dit: Donne-moi à boire.

 7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8 (Car ses disciples étaient partis dans la ville pour acheter de la nourriture).

 8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9 Alors la femme de Samarie lui dit: Comment se fait-il que toi, étant un Juif, me demandes à boire, à moi qui suis une femme de Samarie? car les Juifs n’ont aucun contact avec les Samaritains.

 9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10 Jésus répondit et lui dit: Si tu connaissais le don de Dieu, et qui est celui qui te dit, Donne-moi à boire; tu lui aurais demandé, et il t’aurait donné de l’eau vive.

 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11 La femme lui dit: Sire, tu n’as rien pour puiser, et le puits est profond: d’où as-tu donc cette eau vive?

 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12 Es-tu plus grand que notre père Jacob, qui nous a donné ce puits, et qui en a bu lui-même, et ses enfants et son bétail?

 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13 Jésus répondit et lui dit: Quiconque boit de cette eau aura encore soif:

 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14 Mais quiconque boit de l’eau que je lui donnerai n’aura plus jamais soif; mais l’eau que je lui donnerai sera en lui un puits d’eau jaillissante en vie sempiternelle.

 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15 La femme lui dit: Sire, donne-moi de cette eau, afin que je n’aie plus soif, et que je ne vienne plus puiser ici.

 15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16 Jésus lui dit: Va, appelle ton mari et viens ici.

 16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17 La femme répondit et dit: Je n’ai pas de mari. Jésus lui dit: Tu as bien dit: Je n’ai pas de mari:

 17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18 Car tu as eu cinq maris; et celui que tu as maintenant n’est pas ton mari: en cela tu as dit vrai.

 18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

19 La femme lui dit: Sire, je perçois que tu es un prophète.

 19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

20 Nos pères ont adoré sur cette montagne; et vous dites qu’à Jérusalem est le lieu où il faut adorer.

 20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21 Jésus lui dit: Femme, crois-moi, l’heure vient quand vous n’adorerez le Père ni sur cette montagne, ni même à Jérusalem.

 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 Vous adorez, vous ne savez quoi: nous savons ce que nous adorons: car le salut est des Juifs.

 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23 Mais l’heure vient, et est maintenant, lorsque les vrais adorateurs adoreront le Père en esprit et en vérité: car le Père cherche de telles personnes pour l’adorer.

 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 Dieu est un Esprit: et ceux qui l’adorent, doivent l’adorer en esprit et en vérité.

 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

25 La femme lui dit: Je sais que le Messie vient, lequel est appelé Christ: quand il sera venu, il nous dira toutes choses.

 25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

26 Jésus lui dit: Moi qui te parle, je le suis.

 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

27 ¶ Et là-dessus, ses disciples vinrent, et furent surpris de ce qu’il parlait avec la femme: cependant aucun homme ne dit: Que cherches-tu? ou, pourquoi parles-tu avec elle?

 27 ¶ And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

28 La femme alors laissa sa cruche, et s’en alla à la ville, et dit aux hommes,

 28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29 Venez, voyez un homme qui m’a dit toutes les choses que j’aie jamais faites: n’est-ce pas le Christ?

 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

30 Alors ils sortirent de la ville et vinrent vers lui.

 30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

31 ¶ Entre temps ses disciples le priaient, disant: Maître, mange.

 31 ¶ In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.

32 Mais il leur dit: J’ai de la nourriture à manger que vous ne connaissez pas.

 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

33 Par conséquent les disciples se disaient l’un l’autre: Quelqu’un lui aurait-il apporté à manger?

 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

34 Jésus leur dit: Ma nourriture est de faire la volonté de celui qui m’a envoyé, et d’achever son œuvre.

 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

35 Ne dites-vous pas: Il y a encore quatre mois, et puis vient la moisson? Voici, je vous dis: Levez vos yeux, et regardez les champs; car ils sont déjà blancs pour moissonner.

 35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

36 Et celui qui moissonne reçoit un salaire, et recueille du fruit pour la vie éternelle: afin que les deux celui qui sème et celui qui moissonne, puissent se réjouir ensemble.

 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

37 Car en ceci, ce propos est vrai, L’un sème et un autre moissonne.

 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

38 Je vous ai envoyés moissonner sur quoi vous n’avez concédé aucun labeur: d’autres hommes ont travaillé, et vous êtes entrés dans leurs labeurs.

 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

39 ¶ Et beaucoup de Samaritains de cette ville-là crurent en lui à cause du propos de la femme, qui témoigna: Il m’a dit tout ce que j’aie jamais fait.

 39 ¶ And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

40 Ainsi quand les Samaritains vinrent vers lui, ils le prièrent de rester avec eux: et il demeura là deux jours.

 40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

41 Et beaucoup plus crurent à cause de sa propre parole;

 41 And many more believed because of his own word;

42 Et ils dirent à la femme: Maintenant nous croyons, non à cause de ton propos: car nous l’avons entendu nous-mêmes, et nous savons que celui-ci est en effet le Christ, le Sauveur du monde.

 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

43 ¶ Or, deux jours après, il partit de là et alla en Galilée,

 43 ¶ Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

44 Car Jésus lui-même témoignait qu’un prophète n’a aucun honneur dans son propre pays.

 44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

45 Puis quand il fut venu en Galilée, les Galiléens le reçurent, ayant vu toutes les choses qu’il avait faites à Jérusalem lors de la fête: car eux aussi étaient allés à la fête.

 45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilæans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

46 Ainsi Jésus vint de nouveau à Cana de Galilée, où il avait de l’eau, fait du vin. Et il y avait à Capernaüm un certain noble dont le fils était malade.

 46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

47 Quand il entendit dire que Jésus était venu de Judée en Galilée, il alla vers lui et le supplia pour qu’il veuille descendre et guérir son fils: car il était sur le point de mourir.

 47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judæa into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

48 Alors Jésus lui dit: À moins que vous ne voyiez des signes et des prodiges, vous ne croirez pas.

 48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

49 Le noble lui dit: Sire, descends, avant que mon enfant meure.

 49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

50 Jésus lui dit: Va; ton fils vit. Et l’homme crut la parole que Jésus lui avait dite, et il s’en alla.

 50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

51 Et comme déjà il descendait, ses serviteurs vinrent à sa rencontre, et lui parlèrent, disant: Ton fils vit.

 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.

52 Alors il leur demanda à quelle heure il avait commencé à se trouver mieux. Et ils lui dirent: Hier, à la septième heure, la fièvre le quitta.

 52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

53 Alors le père sut que c’était à l’heure même, à laquelle Jésus lui avait dit: Ton fils vit: et lui-même crut, ainsi que toute sa maison.

 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

54 Ceci est encore le second miracle que Jésus fit quand il fut venu de Judée en Galilée.

 54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judæa into Galilee.
