1 Après ces choses, Jésus traversa la mer de Galilée, laquelle est la mer de Tibériade.

 1 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.

2 Et une grande multitude le suivait, parce qu’ils voyaient ses miracles, lesquels il faisait sur ceux qui étaient malades.

 2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.

3 Et Jésus monta sur une montagne et là, il s’assit avec ses disciples.

 3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.

4 Et la pâque, une fête des Juifs, était proche.

 4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.

5 ¶ Alors lorsque Jésus leva ses yeux, et vit une grande foule qui venait vers lui, il dit à Philippe: Où achèterons-nous du pain, afin que ceux-ci puissent manger?

 5 ¶ When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?

6 Et il disait cela pour l’éprouver: car lui-même savait ce qu’il allait faire.

 6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

7 Philippe lui répondit: Deux cents deniers de pain ne leur suffiraient pas pour que chacun d’eux puisse en prendre un peu.

 7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.

8 L’un de ses disciples, André, frère de Simon Pierre, lui dit:

 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,

9 Il y a ici un jeune garçon qui a cinq pains d’orge, et deux petits poissons: mais qu’est-ce que cela parmi tant de personnes?

 9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?

10 Et Jésus dit: Faites asseoir les hommes. Or il y avait beaucoup d’herbe dans ce lieu. Alors les hommes s’assirent, au nombre d’environ cinq mille.

 10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

11 Et Jésus prit les pains; et lorsqu’il eut remercié, il les distribua aux disciples, et les disciples à ceux qui étaient assis; et de même des poissons, autant qu’ils en voulurent.

 11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.

12 Lorsqu’ils furent rassasiés, il dit à ses disciples: Ramassez les morceaux qui restent, afin que rien ne soit perdu.

 12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.

13 Par conséquent ils les ramassèrent, et remplirent douze paniers des morceaux des cinq pains d’orge qui restaient en plus à ceux qui avaient mangé.

 13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.

14 Alors ces hommes, lorsqu’ils virent le miracle que Jésus avait fait, dirent: Celui-ci est en vérité ce prophète qui devait venir dans le monde.

 14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.

15 ¶ Lorsque Jésus donc perçut qu’ils allaient venir le prendre de force, pour le faire roi, il partit de nouveau sur une montagne, tout seul.

 15 ¶ When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.

16 Et lorsque le soir fut donc venu, ses disciples descendirent vers la mer,

 16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,

17 Et entrèrent dans un bateau et traversèrent la mer vers Capernaüm. Et il faisait déjà sombre, et Jésus n’était pas venu à eux.

 17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.

18 Et la mer s’éleva à cause d’un grand vent qui soufflait.

 18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.

19 Ainsi lorsqu’ils eurent ramé environ vingt-cinq ou trente stades, ils virent Jésus marchant sur la mer, et s’approchant du bateau: et ils eurent peur.

 19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.

20 Mais il leur dit: C’est moi; n’ayez pas peur.

 20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

21 Alors ils le reçurent volontiers dans le bateau: et immédiatement le bateau toucha terre là où ils allaient.

 21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.

22 ¶ Le lendemain, lorsque le peuple qui se tenait de l’autre côté de la mer vit qu’il n’y avait pas là d’autre barque sauf celle dans laquelle ses disciples étaient entrés, et que Jésus n’était pas allé avec ses disciples dans la barque, mais que ses disciples étaient partis seuls;

 22 ¶ The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;

23 (Quoi qu’il en soit d’autres barques étaient arrivées de Tibériade, près du lieu où ils avaient mangé le pain, après que le Seigneur eut remercié):

 23 (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)

24 Lorsque le peuple donc vit que Jésus n’était pas là, ni ses disciples, ils prirent aussi des bateaux, et vinrent à Capernaüm, cherchant Jésus.

 24 When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.

25 Et quand ils l’eurent trouvé de l’autre côté de la mer, ils lui dirent: Rabbi, quand es-tu venu ici?

 25 And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

26 Jésus leur répondit et dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous dis: Vous me cherchez, non parce que vous avez vu les miracles, mais parce que vous avez mangé des pains, et que vous avez été rassasiés.

 26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

27 Peinez, non pas pour la nourriture qui périt, mais pour cette nourriture qui demeure jusqu’à la vie sempiternelle, que le Fils de l’homme vous donnera: car c’est lui que Dieu le Père a marqué de son sceau.

 27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

28 Puis ils lui dirent: Que ferons-nous, afin que nous puissions faire les œuvres de Dieu?

 28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29 Jésus répondit et leur dit: Ceci est l’œuvre de Dieu, que vous croyiez en celui qu’il a envoyé.

 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

30 Ils lui dirent donc: Quel signe alors montres-tu, afin que nous puissions voir et te croire? Quelle œuvre fais-tu?

 30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

31 Nos pères ont mangé la manne dans le désert; comme c’est écrit, Il leur donna du pain du ciel à manger.

 31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

32 Alors Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous dis, Moïse ne vous a pas donné ce pain du ciel; mais mon Père vous donne le vrai pain du ciel.

 32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

33 Car le pain de Dieu est celui qui descend du ciel, et donne la vie au monde.

 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

34 Alors ils lui dirent: Seigneur, donne-nous toujours ce pain-là.

 34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

35 Et Jésus leur dit: Je suis le pain de vie: celui qui vient à moi n’aura jamais faim; et celui qui croit en moi n’aura jamais soif.

 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

36 Mais je vous ai dit, Que vous aussi m’avez vu, et ne croyez pas.

 36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

37 Tout ce que le Père me donne viendra à moi; et en aucun cas je ne jetterai dehors celui qui vient à moi.

 37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

38 Car je suis descendu du ciel, non pour faire ma propre volonté, mais la volonté de celui qui m’a envoyé.

 38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39 Et ceci est la volonté du Père qui m’a envoyé, que je ne perde rien de tout ce qu’il m’a donné, mais que je le ressuscite au dernier jour.

 39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40 Et ceci est la volonté de celui qui m’a envoyé, que quiconque voit le Fils, et croit en lui, ait la vie sempiternelle: et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

41 Les Juifs alors murmuraient à son sujet parce qu’il disait: Je suis le pain qui est descendu du ciel.

 41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.

42 Et ils disaient: N’est-ce pas Jésus, le fils de Joseph, dont nous connaissons le père et la mère? Comment se fait-il alors, qu’il dise, Je suis descendu du ciel?

 42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?

43 Jésus donc répondit et leur dit: Ne murmurez pas entre vous.

 43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.

44 Aucun homme ne peut venir à moi, à moins que le Père qui m’a envoyé ne l’attire: et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

45 Il est écrit dans les prophètes, Et ils seront tous enseignés de Dieu. Tout homme donc qui a entendu, et a appris du Père, vient vers moi.

 45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

46 Non pas qu’aucun homme ait vu le Père, sinon celui qui est de Dieu, lui a vu le Père.

 46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

47 En vérité, en vérité, je vous dis: Celui qui croit en moi a la vie sempiternelle.

 47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

48 Je suis ce pain de vie.

 48 I am that bread of life.

49 Vos pères ont mangé la manne dans le désert, et sont morts.

 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

50 Ceci est le pain qui descend du ciel, afin qu’un homme puisse en manger et ne pas mourir.

 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

51 Je suis le pain vivant qui est descendu du ciel: si un homme mange de ce pain, il vivra pour toujours: et le pain que je donnerai est ma chair, laquelle je donnerai pour la vie du monde.

 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

52 Les Juifs donc se disputaient entre eux, disant: Comment cet homme peut-il nous donner sa chair à manger?

 52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

53 Alors Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous dis: À moins que vous ne mangiez la chair du Fils de l’homme et ne buviez son sang, vous n’avez aucune vie en vous.

 53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

54 Quiconque mange ma chair, et boit mon sang, a la vie éternelle; et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

55 Car ma chair est en effet nourriture, et mon sang est en effet boisson.

 55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

56 Celui qui mange ma chair et qui boit mon sang, demeure en moi, et moi en lui.

 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

57 Comme le Père vivant m’a envoyé, et que je vis par le Père: ainsi celui qui me mange, celui-là même vivra par moi.

 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

58 Ceci est ce pain qui est descendu du ciel: non pas comme vos pères ont mangé la manne, et sont morts: celui qui mange de ce pain vivra à toujours.

 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

59 Il dit ces choses dans la synagogue, alors qu’il enseignait à Capernaüm.

 59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

60 Beaucoup donc de ses disciples, lorsqu’ils entendirent cela, disaient: C’est un propos dur; qui peut l’entendre?

 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?

61 Lorsque Jésus sut en lui-même que ses disciples murmuraient à ce sujet, il leur dit: Ceci vous offense-t-il?

 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

62 Quoi et si vous voyez le Fils de l’homme monter où il était auparavant?

 62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

63 C’est l’esprit qui vivifie; la chair ne profite de rien: les paroles que je vous dis, elles sont esprit et elles sont vie.

 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

64 Mais il y en a quelques-uns parmi vous qui ne croient pas. Car Jésus savait depuis le commencement qui étaient ceux qui ne croyaient pas, et qui le trahirait.

 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

65 Et il disait: Par conséquent je vous ai dit qu’aucun homme ne peut venir vers moi, à moins que cela ne lui soit donné de mon Père.

 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

66 ¶ Dès lors beaucoup de ses disciples s’en retournèrent et ne marchèrent plus avec lui.

 66 ¶ From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

67 Alors Jésus dit aux douze: Voulez-vous aussi vous en aller?

 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?

68 Alors Simon Pierre lui répondit: Seigneur, à qui irions-nous? Tu as les paroles de la vie éternelle.

 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

69 Et nous croyons, et nous sommes certains que tu es ce Christ, le Fils du Dieu vivant.

 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

70 Jésus leur répondit: Ne vous ai-je pas choisis, vous les douze et l’un de vous est un diable?

 70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

71 Il parlait de Judas Iscariot, le fils de Simon: car il était celui qui devait le trahir, étant l’un des douze.

 71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.
