1 Après ces choses, Jésus marchait dans la Galilée: car il ne voulait pas marcher dans la Juiverie, parce que les Juifs cherchaient à le tuer.

 1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

2 Or la fête des Juifs, des tabernacles, était à portée de la main.

 2 Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.

3 Ses frères donc lui dirent: Pars d’ici et va en Judée, afin que tes disciples puissent aussi voir les œuvres que tu fais.

 3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judæa, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.

4 Car il n’y a aucun homme qui fasse quoi que ce soit en secret, et qui lui-même cherche a être connu ouvertement. Si tu fais ces choses, manifeste-toi au monde.

 4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

5 Car ses frères non plus ne croyaient pas en lui.

 5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

6 Alors Jésus leur dit: Mon temps n’est pas encore venu: mais votre temps est toujours prêt.

 6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.

7 Le monde ne peut pas vous haïr; mais moi il me hait, parce que je témoigne de lui, que ses œuvres sont mauvaises.

 7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

8 Montez à cette fête: je ne monte pas encore à cette fête; car mon temps n’est pas encore pleinement venu.

 8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.

9 Lorsqu’il leur eut dit ces paroles, il demeura encore en Galilée.

 9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.

10 ¶ Mais lorsque ses frères furent montés, alors il monta aussi à la fête, pas ouvertement, mais comme en secret.

 10 ¶ But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

11 Alors les Juifs le cherchaient à la fête et disaient: Où est-il?

 11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

12 Et il y eut un grand murmure parmi le peuple le concernant: car les uns disaient: Il est un homme bon: d’autres disaient: Non; mais il trompe le peuple.

 12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.

13 Quoi qu’il en soit aucun homme ne parlait ouvertement de lui par peur des Juifs.

 13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

14 ¶ Or vers le milieu de la fête, Jésus monta dans le temple, et enseignait.

 14 ¶ Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.

15 Et les Juifs surpris, disaient: Comment cet homme connaît-il les lettres, ne les ayant jamais apprises?

 15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

16 Jésus leur répondit et dit: Ma doctrine n’est pas la mienne, mais de celui qui m’a envoyé.

 16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

17 Si quelqu’un veut faire sa volonté, il saura de la doctrine, si elle est de Dieu ou si je parle de moi-même.

 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

18 Celui qui parle de lui-même cherche sa propre gloire: mais celui qui cherche la gloire de celui qui l’a envoyé, celui-là est vrai, et aucune injustice n’est en lui.

 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

19 Moïse ne vous a-t-il pas donné la loi et cependant aucun de vous ne garde la loi? Pourquoi cherchez-vous à me tuer?

 19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

20 Le peuple répondit et dit: Tu as un diable: qui cherche à te tuer?

 20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?

21 Jésus répondit et leur dit: J’ai fait une œuvre, et vous êtes tous surpris.

 21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.

22 Moïse donc vous a donné la circoncision; (non qu’elle soit de Moïse, mais des pères); et vous circoncisez un homme le jour du sabbat.

 22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.

23 Si un homme reçoit la circoncision le jour du sabbat, afin que la loi de Moïse ne soit pas enfreinte; êtes-vous en colère contre moi, parce que j’ai rendu un homme entièrement bien portant le jour du sabbat?

 23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

24 Ne jugez pas selon l’apparence, mais jugez d’un droit jugement.

 24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

25 Alors quelques-uns de ceux de Jérusalem dirent: N’est-ce pas lui qu’ils cherchent à tuer?

 25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?

26 Mais, voici, il parle avec hardiesse, et ils ne lui disent rien. Est-ce que les dirigeants savent en effet que celui-ci est le Christ même?

 26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

27 Quoi qu’il en soit cet homme nous savons d’où il est: mais quand Christ viendra, aucun homme ne saura d’où il est.

 27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

28 Alors Jésus s’écria dans le temple, tandis qu’il enseignait, disant: Vous me connaissez, et vous savez d’où je suis: et je ne suis pas venu de moi-même, mais celui qui m’a envoyé est vrai, lequel vous ne connaissez pas.

 28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

29 Mais moi je le connais: car je suis de lui, et il m’a envoyé.

 29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.

30 Alors ils cherchèrent à le prendre: mais aucun homme ne mit les mains sur lui, parce que son heure n’était pas encore venue.

 30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

31 Et beaucoup parmi le peuple crurent en lui et disaient: Quand Christ viendra, fera-t-il plus de miracles que ceux que cet homme a fait?

 31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?

32 ¶ Les Pharisiens entendirent que le peuple murmurait de telles choses le concernant; et les Pharisiens et les principaux prêtres envoyèrent des officiers pour le prendre.

 32 ¶ The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

33 Puis Jésus leur dit: Je suis encore un petit moment avec vous, et puis je m’en vais vers celui qui m’a envoyé.

 33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.

34 Vous me chercherez et vous ne me trouverez pas: et où je suis, là vous ne pouvez venir.

 34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.

35 Alors les Juifs dirent entre eux: Où ira-t-il que nous ne le trouverons pas? Ira-t-il vers ceux qui sont dispersés parmi les Gentils, et enseigner les Gentils?

 35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?

36 Quelle est cette sorte de propos qu’il a dit: Vous me chercherez, et ne me trouverez pas: et où je suis, là vous ne pouvez venir?

 36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?

37 Au dernier jour, ce grand jour de la fête, Jésus se tenait debout, et s’écria, disant: Si un homme a soif, qu’il vienne à moi et qu’il boive.

 37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38 Celui qui croit en moi, comme a dit l’écriture, de son ventre couleront des fleuves d’eau vive.

 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 (Mais il disait cela de l’Esprit que devaient recevoir ceux qui croiraient en lui: car l’Esprit Saint n’avait pas encore été donné; parce que Jésus n’était pas encore glorifié).

 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

40 ¶ Beaucoup parmi le peuple donc, lorsqu’ils entendirent ce propos dirent: En vérité celui-ci est le Prophète.

 40 ¶ Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.

41 D’autres disaient: Celui-ci est le Christ. Mais quelques-uns disaient: Christ viendra-t-il de Galilée?

 41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?

42 L’écriture n’a-t-elle pas dit: Que Christ vient de la semence de David, et de la ville de Bethléhem, où était David?

 42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

43 Ainsi il y eut division parmi le peuple à cause de lui.

 43 So there was a division among the people because of him.

44 Et quelques-uns d’entre eux l’auraient pris; mais aucun homme ne mit les mains sur lui.

 44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

45 ¶ Puis les officiers vinrent vers les principaux prêtres et les Pharisiens; et ils leur dirent: Pourquoi ne l’avez-vous pas amené?

 45 ¶ Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?

46 Les officiers répondirent: Jamais homme n’a parlé comme cet homme.

 46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

47 Alors les Pharisiens leur répondirent: Avez-vous aussi été trompés?

 47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?

48 Y a-t-il quelqu’un des dirigeants ou des Pharisiens qui ait cru en lui?

 48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?

49 Mais ce peuple qui ne connaît pas la loi est maudit.

 49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.

50 Nicodème (celui qui était venu vers Jésus de nuit, étant l’un d’entre eux) leur dit:

 50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)

51 Notre loi juge-t-elle un homme, avant de l’entendre, et de savoir ce qu’il fait?

 51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?

52 Ils répondirent et lui dirent: Es-tu aussi de Galilée? Cherche, et vois: car de Galilée ne s’élève aucun prophète.

 52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

53 Et chaque homme s’en alla dans sa propre maison.

 53 And every man went unto his own house.
