1 Jésus alla vers le mont des Oliviers.

 1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

2 Et tôt le matin il vint de nouveau au temple, et tout le peuple vint vers lui; et il s’assit, et les enseigna.

 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

3 Et les scribes et les Pharisiens lui amenèrent une femme surprise en adultère; et lorsqu’ils l’eurent placée au milieu,

 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

4 Ils lui dirent: Maître, cette femme a été surprise en adultère, dans l’acte même.

 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

5 Or Moïse dans la loi nous a commandé que de telles personnes soient lapidées: mais que dis-tu?

 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

6 Ils disaient cela le tentant, afin qu’ils puissent avoir de quoi l’accuser. Mais Jésus se baissa, et avec son doigt écrivait sur le sol, comme s’il ne les entendait pas.

 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

7 Ainsi lorsqu’ils continuèrent à l’interroger, il se releva et leur dit: Que celui parmi vous qui est sans péché, jette le premier une pierre contre elle.

 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

8 Et il se baissa de nouveau, et écrivait sur le sol.

 8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

9 Et ceux qui avaient entendu cela, étant convaincus par leur propre conscience, sortirent l’un après l’autre, en commençant par les plus âgés, à savoir jusqu’aux derniers: et Jésus resta seul, et la femme se tenant au milieu.

 9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 Quand Jésus se releva, et ne vit personne sinon la femme, il lui dit: Femme, où sont tes accusateurs? Aucun homme ne t’a condamnée?

 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

11 Elle dit: Aucun homme, Seigneur. Et Jésus lui dit: Je ne te condamne pas non plus: va et ne pèche plus.

 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

12 ¶ Puis Jésus leur parla encore, disant: Je suis la lumière du monde: celui qui me suit ne marchera pas dans l’obscurité, mais il aura la lumière de la vie.

 12 ¶ Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

13 Les Pharisiens lui dirent donc: Tu attestes de toi-même; ton attestation n’est pas vraie.

 13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

14 Jésus répondit et leur dit: Bien que j‘atteste de moi-même, cependant mon attestation est vraie: car je sais d’où je suis venu, et où je vais; mais vous ne pouvez dire d’où je viens, et où je vais.

 14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

15 Vous jugez suivant la chair; je ne juge aucun homme.

 15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

16 Et cependant si je juge, mon jugement est vrai: car je ne suis pas seul, mais moi et le Père qui m’a envoyé.

 16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

17 Il est aussi écrit dans votre loi que le témoignage de deux hommes est vrai.

 17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

18 Je suis seul qui rende témoignage de moi-même, et le Père qui m’a envoyé atteste de moi.

 18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

19 Puis ils lui disaient: Où est ton Père? Jésus répondit: Vous ne connaissez ni moi, ni mon Père: si vous m’aviez connu, vous auriez connu aussi mon Père.

 19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

20 Jésus dit ces paroles dans la trésorerie, alors qu’il enseignait dans le temple: et aucun homme ne mit les mains sur lui; car son heure n’était pas encore venue.

 20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

21 Puis Jésus leur dit de nouveau: Je m’en vais, et vous me chercherez, et vous mourrez dans vos péchés: où je vais, vous ne pouvez venir.

 21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

22 Puis les Juifs disaient: Se tuera-t-il? parce qu’il dit: Où je vais, vous ne pouvez venir.

 22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

23 Et il leur dit: Vous êtes d’en bas; je suis d’en haut: vous êtes de ce monde; je ne suis pas de ce monde.

 23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

24 Je vous ai donc dit, que vous mourrez dans vos péchés: car si vous ne croyez pas que je suis celui-là, vous mourrez dans vos péchés.

 24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

25 Alors ils lui dirent: Qui es-tu? Et Jésus leur dit: C’est-à-dire le même que je vous ai dit depuis le commencement.

 25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

26 J’ai beaucoup de choses à dire de vous et à juger: mais celui qui m’a envoyé est vrai; et je dis au monde ces choses que j’ai entendues de lui.

 26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

27 Ils ne comprirent pas qu’il leur parlait du Père.

 27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

28 Puis Jésus leur dit: Lorsque vous aurez élevé le Fils de l’homme, alors vous saurez que je suis celui-là, et que je ne fais rien de moi-même; mais selon ce que mon Père m’a enseigné, je dis ces choses.

 28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

29 Et celui qui m’a envoyé est avec moi: le Père ne m’a pas laissé seul; car je fais toujours ces choses qui lui plaisent.

 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

30 Comme il disait ces paroles, beaucoup crurent en lui.

 30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.

31 Puis Jésus dit à ces Juifs qui avaient cru en lui: Si vous continuez dans ma parole, alors vous êtes en effet mes disciples;

 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 Et vous connaîtrez la vérité, et la vérité vous rendra libres.

 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33 ¶ Ils lui répondirent: Nous sommes la semence d’Abraham, et nous n’avons jamais été asservis à aucun homme: comment dis-tu: Vous serez rendus libres?

 33 ¶ They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34 Jésus leur répondit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous dis, que quiconque commet le péché, est le serviteur du péché.

 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

35 Et le serviteur ne demeure pas dans la maison pour toujours: mais le Fils y demeure toujours.

 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

36 Si donc le Fils vous rendra libres, vous serez en effet libres.

 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

37 Je sais que vous êtes la semence d’Abraham; mais vous cherchez à me tuer, parce que ma parole n’a pas de place en vous.

 37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

38 Je dis ce que j’ai vu avec mon Père: et vous faites ce que vous avez vu avec votre père.

 38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

39 Ils répondirent et lui dirent: Abraham est notre père. Jésus leur dit: Si vous étiez enfants d’Abraham, vous feriez les œuvres d’Abraham.

 39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

40 Mais maintenant vous cherchez à me tuer, moi, un homme qui vous ai dit la vérité, laquelle j’ai entendue de Dieu: cela Abraham ne l’a pas fait.

 40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

41 Vous faites les actions de votre père. Alors ils lui dirent: Nous ne sommes pas nés de la fornication; nous avons un Père, c’est-à-dire Dieu.

 41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

42 Jésus leur dit: Si Dieu était votre Père, vous m’aimeriez: car je suis provenu et je suis venu de Dieu; je ne suis pas venu de moi-même, mais il m’a envoyé.

 42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

43 Pourquoi ne comprenez-vous pas mon langage? C’est-à-dire parce que vous ne pouvez entendre ma parole.

 43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

44 Vous êtes de votre père le diable, et vous voulez faire les convoitises de votre père. Il a été un meurtrier depuis le commencement, et il n’est pas demeuré dans la vérité, parce qu’il n’y a aucune vérité en lui. Lorsqu’il dit un mensonge, il parle de ce qui lui est propre: car il est un menteur, et le père du mensonge.

 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45 Et parce que je vous dis la vérité, vous ne me croyez pas.

 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

46 Qui de vous me convainc de péché? Et si je dis la vérité, pourquoi ne me croyez-vous pas?

 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

47 Celui qui est de Dieu entend les paroles de Dieu: vous donc ne les entendez pas, parce que vous n’êtes pas de Dieu.

 47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

48 Alors les Juifs répondirent et lui dirent: Ne disons-nous pas bien que tu es un Samaritain, et que tu as un diable?

 48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

49 Jésus répondit: Je n’ai pas un diable; mais j’honore mon Père, et vous me déshonorez.

 49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

50 Et je ne cherche pas ma propre gloire: il y en a un qui cherche et qui juge.

 50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

51 En vérité, en vérité, je vous dis: Si un homme garde mon propos, il ne verra jamais la mort.

 51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

52 Puis les Juifs lui dirent: Maintenant nous savons que tu as un diable. Abraham est mort ainsi que les prophètes; et tu dis, Si un homme garde mon propos, il ne goûtera jamais la mort.

 52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.

53 Es-tu plus grand que notre père Abraham, qui est mort? Et les prophètes sont morts: lequel te fais-tu toi-même?

 53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

54 Jésus répondit: Si je m’honore moi-même, mon honneur n’est rien: c’est mon Père qui m’honore; lui dont vous dites, qu’il est votre Dieu:

 54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

55 Cependant, vous ne l’avez pas connu: mais je le connais: et si je disais que je ne le connais pas, je serais un menteur semblable à vous: mais je le connais, et je garde son propos.

 55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

56 Votre père Abraham s’est réjoui de voir mon jour: et il l’a vu, et en a été content.

 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

57 Alors les Juifs lui dirent: Tu n’as pas encore cinquante ans, et tu as vu Abraham?

 57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous dis: Avant qu’Abraham fût, je suis.

 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

59 Alors ils prirent des pierres pour les jeter contre lui: mais Jésus se cacha, et sortit du temple, allant au milieu d’eux, et ainsi passa à côté.

 59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
