1 Et la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à Jonas une seconde fois, en disant :
|
1 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
|
2 Lève-toi, va à Nineveh (Ninive), cette grande ville, et prêches-y la prédication que je t’ordonne.
|
2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
|
3 Jonah (Jonas) se leva donc et alla à Nineveh (Ninive), selon la parole du SEIGNEUR. Or Nineveh (Ninive) était une extrêmement grande ville, à trois journées de marche.
|
3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
|
4 Et Jonah (Jonas) commença d’entrer dans la ville, le chemin d’une journée ; il criait et disait : Encore quarante jours, et Nineveh (Ninive) sera renversée.
|
4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
|
5 ¶ Et les gens de Nineveh (Ninive) crurent Dieu ; ils proclamèrent un jeûne et se revêtirent de sacs, depuis les plus grands d’entre eux jusqu’aux plus petits.
|
5 ¶ So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
|
6 Car cette parole parvint au roi de Nineveh (Ninive),et il se leva de son trône, et ôta de dessus lui sa robe, et se couvrit d’un sac, et s’assit sur la cendre.
|
6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
|
7 Et il fit faire une proclamation, et on publia dans Nineveh (Ninive) par décret du roi et de ses nobles, disant : Que ni homme, ni bête, ni bœuf, ni brebis, ne goûtent aucune chose ; qu’ils ne se nourrissent pas, et ne boivent pas d’eau.
|
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
|
8 Et que les hommes et les bêtes soient couverts de sacs ; et qu’ils crient puissamment à Dieu, oui, que chacun se détourne de son mauvais chemin et de la violence qui est dans leurs mains.
|
8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
|
9 Qui peut dire si Dieu reviendra et se repentira, et s’il se détournera de son furieux courroux, en sorte que nous ne périssions pas ?
|
9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
|
10 ¶ Et Dieu vit leurs œuvres, qu’ils se détournaient de leur mauvais chemin ; et Dieu se repentit du mal qu’il avait parlé de leur faire, et il ne le fit pas.
|
10 ¶ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
