1 Et il arriva que quand tous les rois des Amorites (Amoréens) qui étaient sur le côté ouest du Jourdain, et tous les rois des Canaanites (Cananéens) qui étaient près de la mer, apprirent que le SEIGNEUR avait asséché les eaux du Jourdain devant les enfants d’Israël jusqu’à ce que nous ayons passé, leur cœur fondit, et l’esprit n’était plus non plus en eu à cause des enfants d’Israël.

 1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

2 ¶ En ce temps-là, le SEIGNEUR dit à Joshua (Josué) : Fais-toi des couteaux tranchants, et circoncis de nouveau, pour la seconde fois, les enfants d’Israël.

 2 ¶ At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

3 Et Joshua (Josué) fit des couteaux tranchants et circoncit les enfants d’Israël, à la colline des prépuces.

 3 And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

4 Et c’est ici la raison pour laquelle Joshua (Josué) les circoncit : Tout le peuple qui était sorti d’Égypte, les mâles, dis-je tous les hommes de guerre étaient morts dans le désert, en chemin, après être sortis d’Égypte.

 4 And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

5 Et tout le peuple qui était sorti avait bien été circoncis ; mais de tout le peuple né dans le désert, en chemin, après être sorti d’Égypte, aucun d’eux n’avait été circoncis.

 5 Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.

6 Car les enfants d’Israël avaient marché quarante ans dans le désert, jusqu’à ce que tout le peuple, qui était hommes de guerre, lesquels étaient sortis d’Égypte, ait péri, parce qu’ils n’avaient pas obéi à la voix du SEIGNEUR ; auxquels le SEIGNEUR leur avait juré qu’il ne leur laisserait pas voir le pays dont le SEIGNEUR avait juré à leurs pères qu’il nous le donnerait, un pays où ruisèlent le lait et le miel ;

 6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

7 Et il avait suscité leurs enfants à leur place, lesquels Joshua (Josué) circoncit, car ils étaient incirconcis, parce qu’on ne les avait pas circoncis en chemin.

 7 And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

8 Et il arriva, lorsqu’on eut achevé de circoncire tout le peuple, qu’ils demeurèrent en leur place dans le camp, jusqu’à ce qu’ils soient guéris.

 8 And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

9 Et le SEIGNEUR dit à Joshua (Josué) : Aujourd’hui j’ai roulé derrière vous l’outrage de l’Égypte. C’est pourquoi le nom de ce lieu est appelé Gilgal (Guilgal), jusqu’à ce jour.

 9 And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

10 ¶ Et les enfants d’Israël campèrent à Gilgal (Guilgal), et ils célébrèrent la pâque le quatorzième jour du mois, le soir, dans les plaines de Jéricho.

 10 ¶ And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

11 Et ils mangèrent du vieux grain du pays, le lendemain de la pâque, des pains sans levain et du grain rôti ce même jour.

 11 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.

12 ¶ Et la manne cessa le lendemain, après qu’ils aient mangé du vieux grain du pays ; et les enfants d’Israël n’ont plus eu de manne, mais ils mangèrent du fruit de la terre de Canaan, cette année-là.

 12 ¶ And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

13 ¶ Et il arriva, comme Joshua (Josué) était près de Jéricho, qu’il leva ses yeux et regarda, et voici, un homme se tenait debout, face à lui, son épée nue en sa main ; et Joshua (Josué) alla vers lui, et lui dit : Es-tu pour nous, ou pour nos adversaires ?

 13 ¶ And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

14 Et il répondit : Non, mais en tant que capitaine de l’armée du SEIGNEUR que je suis venu maintenant. Et Joshua (Josué) tomba sur son visage contre terre, et l’adora, et lui dit : Qu’est-ce que mon Seigneur dit à son serviteur ?

 14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

15 Et le capitaine de l’armée du SEIGNEUR dit à Joshua (Josué) : Ôte ta chaussure de ton pied ; car le lieu sur lequel tu te tiens est saint. Et Joshua (Josué) fit ainsi.

 15 And the captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
