1 Or Jéricho était rigoureusement fermée, à cause des enfants d’Israël ; personne ne sortait et personne n’entrait.

 1 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.

2 Et le SEIGNEUR dit à Joshua (Josué) : Regarde, j’ai livré en ta main Jéricho, et son roi, et ses hommes puissants et vaillants.

 2 And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.

3 Et vous encerclerez la ville, vous tous les hommes de guerre, et ferez le tour de la ville une fois. Tu feras ainsi pendant six jours.

 3 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

4 Et sept prêtres porteront sept trompettes faites de cornes de bélier devant l’arche. Mais le septième jour, vous encerclerez la ville sept fois, et les prêtres sonneront des trompettes.

 4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.

5 Et il arrivera que, quand ils sonneront longuement de la corne de bélier, et aussitôt que vous entendrez le son de la trompette, tout le peuple jettera un grand cri ; et la muraille de la ville tombera sur place, et le peuple montera, chacun devant soi.

 5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

6 ¶ Et Joshua (Josué), le fils de Nun, appela les prêtres, et leur dit : Chargez l’arche de l’alliance, et que sept prêtres portent sept trompettes faites de cornes de bélier devant l’arche du SEIGNEUR.

 6 ¶ And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD.

7 Et il dit au peuple : Passez, et encerclez la ville, et que les hommes armés passent devant l’arche du SEIGNEUR.

 7 And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.

8 ¶ Et il arriva, quand Joshua (Josué) eut parlé au peuple, que les sept prêtres qui portaient les sept trompettes faites de cornes de bélier devant le SEIGNEUR passèrent et sonnèrent des trompettes, et l’arche de l’alliance du SEIGNEUR les suivait.

 8 ¶ And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.

9 ¶ Et les hommes armés allaient devant les prêtres qui sonnaient des trompettes, et l’arrière-garde suivait l’arche, et les prêtres marchant et sonnant des trompettes.

 9 ¶ And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.

10 Et Joshua (Josué) avait commandé au peuple, en disant : Vous ne pousserez pas de cris, et vous ne ferez pas entendre votre voix, et il ne sortira aucun mot de votre bouche, jusqu’au jour où je vous dirai de crier ; alors vous crierez.

 10 And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

11 Ainsi l’arche du SEIGNEUR fit le tour de la ville, tournant une fois autour d’elle ; puis ils vinrent au camp, et passèrent la nuit dans le camp.

 11 So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

12 ¶ Et Joshua (Josué) se leva de bonne heure le matin, et les prêtres chargèrent l’arche du SEIGNEUR.

 12 ¶ And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.

13 Et les sept prêtres portant les sept trompettes faites de cornes de bélier devant l’arche du SEIGNEUR, marchaient et sonnaient des trompettes en marchant. Les hommes armés marchaient devant eux ; et l’arrière-garde suivait l’arche du SEIGNEUR, les prêtres marchant et sonnant des trompettes.

 13 And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.

14 Et le second jour, ils firent le tour de la ville une fois, et retournèrent au camp ; ils firent ainsi pendant six jours.

 14 And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.

15 Et il arriva au septième jour, qu’ils se levèrent de bonne heure, à l’aube du jour, et ils firent le tour de la ville, de la même manière, sept fois ; ce jour-là seulement ils encerclèrent la ville sept fois.

 15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.

16 Et il arriva à la septième fois, comme les prêtres sonnèrent des trompettes, Joshua (Josué) dit au peuple : Criez, car le SEIGNEUR vous a donné la ville.

 16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.

17 ¶ Et la ville sera maudite, vouée au SEIGNEUR, savoir elle et tout ce qu’elle contient ; seule Rahab la prostituée vivra, elle et tous ceux qui sont avec elle dans la maison, parce qu’elle a caché les messagers que nous avions envoyés.

 17 ¶ And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

18 Et vous, quoi qu’il en soit, gardez-vous de la chose maudite, de peur que vous vous rendiez maudits lorsque vous prendrez de la chose naudite, et que vous rendiez le camp d’Israël maudit et y jetiez le trouble.

 18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

19 Mais tout l’argent et tout l’or, et tous les ustensiles de cuivre et de fer, seront consacrés au SEIGNEUR ; ils viendront au trésor du SEIGNEUR.

 19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.

20 Le peuple cria donc, quand les prêtres sonnèrent des trompettes. Et il arriva, quand le peuple entendit le son des cors, le peuple jeta un grand cri, alorsla muraille s’écroula, si bien que le peuple monta dans la ville, chacun devant soi, et ils prirent la ville.

 20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

21 Et ils détruisirent entièrement du tranchant de l’épée, tout ce qui était dans la ville, homme et femme, enfant et vieillard, bœuf, mouton et âne.

 21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

22 Mais Joshua (Josué) avait dit aux deux hommes qui avaient espionné le pays : Entrez dans la maison de la prostituée, et faites-en sortir la femme et tout ce qui lui appartient, comme vous le lui avez juré.

 22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.

23 Et les jeunes hommes qui avaient espionné, entrèrent et firent sortir Rahab, son père, sa mère, et ses frères et tout ce qu’elle avait ; ils firent sortir aussi toute sa parenté, et ils les mirent hors du camp d’Israël.

 23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.

24 Et ils brûlèrent par le feu la ville et tout ce qu’elle contenait ; seulement ils déposèrent l’argent, l’or, et les ustensiles de cuivre et de fer, au trésor de la maison du SEIGNEUR.

 24 And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.

25 Et Joshua (Josué) sauva la vie à Rahab la prostituée, et à la maison de son père, et à tous ceux qui lui appartenaient ; et elle demeure en Israël savoir jusqu’à ce jour, parce qu’elle avait caché les messagers que Joshua (Josué) avait envoyés pour espionner Jéricho.

 25 And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father’s household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

26 ¶Et en ce temps-là, Joshua (Josué) jura, en disant : Maudit soit devant le SEIGNEUR, l’homme qui se lèvera et rebâtira cette ville de Jéricho. Il posera ses fondations au prix de son premier-né, et il en mettra les portes au prix de son plus jeune fils.

 26 ¶ And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

27 Et le SEIGNEUR fut avec Joshua (Josué), et sa réputation se répandit à travers tout le pays.

 27 So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
