1 Il y eut aussi un lot pour la tribu de Manasseh (Manassé), car il était le premier-né de Joseph ; c’est-à-dire, pour Machir (Makir), premier-né de Manasseh (Manassé) et père de Gilead (Galaad), parce qu`il était un homme de guerre, c’est pourquoi il eut Gilead (Galaad) et Bashan.

 1 There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the firstborn of Joseph; to wit, for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead: because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

2 ll y eut aussi un lot pour le reste des enfants de Manasseh (Manassé), selon leurs familles ; pour les enfants d’Abiezer, pour les enfants de Helek, pour les enfants d’Asriel, pour les enfants de Shechem (Sichem) Shechem (Sichem) (Sichem), pour les enfants de Hepher, et pour les enfants de Shemida. Ceux-ci étaient les enfants mâles de Manasseh (Manassé), le fils de Joseph, selon leurs familles.

 2 There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families.

3 ¶ Mais Zelophehad, le fils de Hepher, fils de Gilead (Galaad), fils de Machir (Makir), fils de Manasseh (Manassé), n’eut pas de fils, mais des filles, et ce sont ici le nom de ses filles : Mahlah, et Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, et Tirzah.

 3 ¶ But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

4 Et elles se présentèrent devant Eleazar le prêtre, et devant Joshua (Josué), le fils de Nun, et devant les princes, disant : Le SEIGNEUR a commandé à Moïse de nous donner un héritage parmi nos frères. C’est pourquoi selon le commandement du SEIGNEUR, on leur donna un héritage parmi les frères de leur père.

 4 And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.

5 Et dix portions échurent à Manasseh (Manassé), outre les pays de Gilead (Galaad) et de Bashan, qui étaient de l’autre côté du Jourdain ;

 5 And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan;

6 Parce que les filles de Manasseh (Manassé) eurent un héritage parmi ses fils ; et le reste des fils de Manasseh (Manassé) eurent le pays de Gilead (Galaad).

 6 Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of Manasseh’s sons had the land of Gilead.

7 ¶ Or le territoire de Manasseh (Manassé) était d’Asher (Asser) à Michmethah, qui est devant Shechem (Sichem) ; et la frontière allait à main droite vers les habitants d’Entappuah.

 7 ¶ And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lieth before Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of Entappuah.

8 Or le pays de Tappuah était à Manasseh (Manassé) ; mais Tappuah, sur la frontière de Manasseh (Manassé), appartenait aux enfants d’Ephraim (Éphraïm).

 8 Now Manasseh had the land of Tappuah: but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim;

9 Et le territoire descendait à la rivière Kanah, au Sud de la rivière ; ces villes-là sont à Ephraim (Éphraïm), parmi les villes de Manasseh (Manassé) ; le territoire de Manasseh (Manassé) était du côté nord de la rivière, et il aboutissait à la mer.

 9 And the coast descended unto the river Kanah, southward of the river: these cities of Ephraim are among the cities of Manasseh: the coast of Manasseh also was on the north side of the river, and the outgoings of it were at the sea:

10 Ce qui était au sud, était à Ephraim (Éphraïm) ; et au nord, c’était à Manasseh (Manassé), et la mer est sa frontière ; et ils rejoignaient Asher (Asser) au nord, et Issachar (Issacar) à l’est.

 10 Southward it was Ephraim’s, and northward it was Manasseh’s, and the sea is his border; and they met together in Asher on the north, and in Issachar on the east.

11 Et Manasseh (Manassé) avait, dans Issachar (Issacar) et dans Asher (Asser), Bethshean et les villes de son ressort, et Ibleam et les villes de son ressort, et les habitants de Dor et les villes de son ressort, les habitants d’Endor et les villes de son ressort, les habitants de Taanach et les villes de son ressort, les habitants de Megido (Meguiddo) et les villes de son ressort, trois contrées.

 11 And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Bethshean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns, even three countries.

12 Cependant les enfants de Manasseh (Manassé) ne purent pas déposséder les habitants de ces villes ; mais les Canaanites (Cananéens) voulurent demeurer dans ce pays.

 12 Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

13 Cependant il arriva, lorsque les enfants d’Israël furent devenus forts, ils rendirent les Canaanites (Cananéens) tributaires ; mais ils ne les dépossédèrent pas entièrement.

 13 Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute; but did not utterly drive them out.

14 Et les enfants de Joseph parlèrent à Joshua (Josué), en disant : Pourquoi m’as-tu donné en héritage un seul lot et une seule portion, vu que je suis un grand peuple, comme le SEIGNEUR m’a béni jusqu’à présent ?

 14 And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto?

15 Et Joshua (Josué) leur répondit : Si tu es un grand peuple, alors monte à la contrée boisée, et coupe-la, pour te faire place dans le pays des Perizzites (Phéréziens) et des géants, si le mont ’Ephraim (Éphraïm) est trop étroit pour toi.

 15 And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.

16 Et les enfants de Joseph dirent : La colline n’est pas suffisante pour nous ; et tous les Canaanites (Cananéens) qui demeurent dans le pays de la vallée ont des chariots de fer, et ceux qui sont de Bethshean et dans les villes de son ressort, et ceux qui sont dans la vallée de Jezreel (Jizréel).

 16 And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

17 Et Joshua (Josué) parla à la maison de Joseph, savoir à Ephraim (Éphraïm) et à Manasseh (Manassé), et leur dit : Tu es un grand peuple, et tu as un grand pouvoir ; tu n’auras pas seulement un lot.

 17 And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:

18 Mais la montagne sera à toi ; parce que c’est une forêt, et tu la couperas, et ses étendues seront à toi ; car tu déposséderas les Canaanites (Cananéens), quoiqu’ils aient des chariots de fer, et quoiqu’ils soient forts.

 18 But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.
