1 Et les hommes d'Ephraim (Éphraïm) se rassemblèrent, et ils allèrent vers leNord, et dirent à Jephthah : Pourquoi as-tu passé pour combattre contre les enfants d'Ammon, et tu ne nous a pas appelés pour aller avec toi ? Nous brûlerons au feu sur toi ta maison.

 1 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.

2 Et Jephthah leur dit : Moi et mon peuple avons eu une grande contestation, avec les enfants d'Ammon ; et lorsque je vous ai appelés, vous ne m'avez pas délivré de leurs mains.

 2 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.

3 Et quand j'ai vu que vous ne veniez pas me délivrer, j'ai mis ma vie dans mes mains, et j'ai passé vers les enfants d'Ammon ; et le SEIGNEUR les a livrés en ma main. Pourquoi donc êtes-vous montés contre moi aujourd’hui, pour vous battre contre moi ?

 3 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?

4 Alors Jephthah rassembla tous les hommes de Gilead (Galaad) et combattit Ephraim (Éphraïm) ; et les hommes de Gilead (Galaad) frappèrent Ephraim (Éphraïm), parce qu'ils avaient dit : Vous, Gileadite (Galaadite)s, êtes des fugitifs d'Ephraim (Éphraïm), au milieu d'Ephraim (Éphraïm), et au milieu de Manasseh (Manassé).

 4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.

5 Et les Gileadite (Galaadite)s se saisirent des passages du Jourdain avant Ephraim (Éphraïm) ; et il arriva que lorsque quelques-uns des échappés d'Ephraim (Éphraïm) disaient : Laissez -moi passer, les hommes de Gilead (Galaad) lui disaient : Es-tu Ephraimite ? et il disait : Non.

 5 And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;

6 Alors ils lui disaient : Dis maintenant : Shibboleth. Mais il disait : Sibboleth, car il ne pouvait pas bien le prononcer. Alors ils le saisissaient et l'égorgeaient aux passages du Jourdain. Et en ce temps-là il tomba quarante-deux mille Ephraïmites.

 6 Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

7 Et Jephthah jugea Israël six ans. Puis Jephthah, le Gilead (Galaad), mourut, et il fut enterré dans une des villes de Gilead (Galaad).

 7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.

8 ¶ Et après lui, Ibzan de Bethlehem jugea Israël.

 8 ¶ And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

9 Et il eut trente fils, et trente filles, lesquelles il envoya au dehors du territoire, et il fit venir du dehors trente filles pour ses fils. Et il jugea Israël sept ans.

 9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.

10 Et Ibzan mourut, et il fut enterré à Bethlehem.

 10 Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.

11 ¶ Et après lui, Elon, un Zebulonite, jugea Israël ; et il jugea Israël dix ans.

 11 ¶ And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

12 Et Elon, le Zebulonite, mourut, et il fut enterré à Aijalon, dans le pays de Zebulon.

 12 And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.

13 ¶ Et après lui, Abdon, fils d'Hillel, le Pirathonite, jugea Israël.

 13 ¶ And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.

14 Et il eut quarante fils et trente neveux, qui montaient sur soixante-dix ânons ; et il jugea Israël huit ans.

 14 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.

15 Et Abdon le fils d'Hillel, le Pirathonite mourut ; et il fut enterré à Pirhathon, dans le pays d'Ephraim (Éphraïm), sur la montagne des Amalekites.

 15 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
