1 ¶ Et Hiram, roi de Tyre (Tyr), envoya ses serviteurs vers Salomon, car il avait entendu qu’on l’avait oint roi à la place de son père ; car Hiram avait toujours aimé David.
|
1 And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.
|
2 Et Salomon envoya vers Hiram, disant :
|
2 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,
|
3 Tu sais que David, mon père, n’a pu bâtir une maison au nom du SEIGNEUR son Dieu, à cause des guerres qui l’ont environné de toutes parts, jusqu’à ce que le SEIGNEUR les mit sous la plante de ses pieds.
|
3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
|
4 Mais maintenant le SEIGNEUR mon Dieu m’a donné du repos de tous côtés ; si bien qu’il n’y a ni adversaire ni mauvais évènement.
|
4 But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.
|
5 Et voici, je projette de bâtir une maison au nom du SEIGNEUR mon Dieu, comme le SEIGNEUR en a parlé à David, mon père, disant : Ton fils, que je mettrai à ta place sur ton trône, lui, bâtira une maison à mon nom.
|
5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.
|
6 Maintenant donc, commande qu’on me coupe des cèdres du Liban ; et mes serviteurs seront avec tes serviteurs ; et je te donnerai pour tes serviteurs le salaire que tu fixeras ; car tu sais qu’il n’y a personne parmi nous qui sache couper les bois comme les Sidoniens.

6 Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.
|
7 Or il arriva, quand Hiram entendit les paroles de Salomon, qu’il s’en réjouit fort, et il dit : Béni soit aujourd’hui le SEIGNEUR, qui a donné à David un fils sage, sur ce grand peuple.
|
7 ¶ And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.
|
8 Et Hiram envoya vers Salomon, disant : J’ai considéré les choses que tu m’as envoyées dire et je ferai tout ce que tu désires au sujet du bois de cèdre et du bois de sapin.
|
8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.
|
9 Mes serviteurs les descendront du Liban à la mer ; et je les transporterai par mer en radeaux, jusqu’au lieu que tu me fixeras, et je les ferai décharger là ; et tu les réceptionneras, et tu accompliras mon désir en donnant des vivres à ma maison.
|
9 My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
|
10 ¶ Ainsi Hiram donna du bois de cèdre et du bois de sapin à Salomon, selon tout son désir.
|
10 So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.
|
11 Et Salomon donna à Hiram vingt mille mesures de blé pour la nourriture de sa maisonnée, et vingt mesures d’huile pure Salomon donna ainsi à Hiram chaque année.
|
11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
|
12 Et le SEIGNEUR donna de la sagesse à Salomon, comme il lui avait promis ; et il y eut paix entre Hiram et Salomon, et eux deux firent une ligue ensemble.
|
12 And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
|
13 Et le roi Salomon fit une levée sur tout Israël ; et la levée fut de trente mille hommes.
|
13 ¶ And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.
|
14 Et il les envoyait au Liban dix mille chaque mois par roulement ; ils étaient un mois au Liban et deux mois chez eux ; et Adoniram était préposé sur la levée.
|
14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.
|
15 Et Salomon avait soixante-dix mille hommes qui portaient les fardeaux, et quatre-vingt mille qui taillaient dans la montagne ;
|
15 And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;
|
16 Outre le chef des officiers de Salomon qui étaient préposés sur l’ouvrage, trois mille trois cents, lesquels dirigeaient le peuple qui était employé à ce travail.
|
16 Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.
|
17 Et le roi commanda et l’on amena de grandes pierres, des pierres de prix, des pierres de taille pour faire le fondement de la maison.
|
17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.
|
18 Et les ouvriers de Salomon, et les ouvriers d’Hiram les taillèrent, ainsi que les tailleurs de pierres ; ainsi ils préparèrent le bois et les pierres pour bâtir la maison.
|
18 And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.
|
