1 ¶ Et Elijah (Élie), le Tishbite, qui était d’entre les habitants de Gilead (Galaad), dit à Ahab : De même que le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, devant qui je me tiens, est vivant, il n’y aura ni rosée ni pluie pendant ces années-ci, seulement selon ma parole.

 1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

2 Et la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à lui, disant :

 2 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

3 Va-t’en d’ici, tourne-toi vers l’Est, et cache-toi au torrent Cherith, qui est en face du Jourdain.

 3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

4 Et il arrivera, que tu boiras du torrent, et j’ai commandé aux corbeaux de t’y nourrir.

 4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

5 Il partit donc et fit selon la parole du SEIGNEUR ; il s’en alla et demeura au torrent Cherith, qui est en face du Jourdain.

 5 So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

6 Et les corbeaux lui apportaient du pain et de la chair le matin, et du pain et de la chair le soir ; et il buvait du torrent.

 6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

7 Et il arriva, après quelque temps, que le torrent s’assécha, parce qu’il n’y avait pas eu de pluie dans le pays.

 7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

8 ¶ Et la parole du SEIGNEUR vint à lui, disant :

 8 ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

9 Lève-toi, va-t’en à Zarephath, qui appartient à Zidon (Sidon), et demeure là ; voici, j’ai commandé là à une femme veuve de te nourrir.

 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

10 Il se leva donc et s’en alla à Zarephtah. Et quand il arriva à la porte de la ville, voici une femme veuve était là ramassant du bois ; et il l’appela et dit : Cherche-moi, je te prie, un peu d’eau dans un ustensile, afin que je puisse boire.

 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 Et comme elle s’en allait pour en chercher, il l’appela et dit : Apporte-moi en ta main, je te prie, un morceau de pain.

 11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

12 Et elle dit : De même que le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu est vivant, je n’ai pas de gâteau, sinon une poignée de farine dans un baril, et un peu d’huile dans une cruche ; et voici, je suis en train de ramasser deux brindilles, afin que je puisse aller et l’apprêter pour moi et pour mon fils ; pour que nous puissions le manger, et mourir.

 12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13 Et Elijah (Élie) lui dit : N’aie pas peur, va, et fais comme tu as dit ; mais fais-m’en d’abord un petit gâteau ; et apporte-le moi, et après tu en feras pour toi et pour ton fils.

 13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 Car ainsi dit le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël : Le baril de farine ne fera pas défaut, et la cruche d’huile ne se videra pas, jusqu’au jour où le SEIGNEUR enverra de la pluie sur la terre.

 14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

15 Et elle s’en alla, et fit selon le propos d’Elijah (Élie) ; et elle, et lui, et sa maisonnée mangèrent durant beaucoup de jours.

 15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16 Et le baril de farine ne s’épuisa pass, et la cruche d’huile ne se vida pas, selon la parole du SEIGNEUR, qu’il avait proférée par Elijah (Élie).

 16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

17 ¶ Et il arriva après ces choses, que le fils de la femme, la maîtresse de la maison, tomba malade ; et la maladie fut si forte, qu’il ne resta plus de souffle en lui.

 17 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

18 Et elle dit à Elijah (Élie) : Qu’ai-je à faire avec toi, ô toi homme de Dieu ? Es-tu venu chez moi pour rappeler en mémoire mon péché, et pour faire mourir mon fils ?

 18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

19 Et il lui dit : Donne-moi ton fils. Et il le prit de son sein, et le porta dans la loggia où il demeurait, et il le coucha sur son lit.

 19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

20 Et il cria au SEIGNEUR et dit : Ô SEIGNEUR mon Dieu, as-tu aussi fait venir du mal sur la veuve chez laquelle je séjourne, en faisant mourir son fils ?

 20 And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

21 Et il s’étendit sur l’enfant, par trois fois ; et il cria au SEIGNEUR, et dit : Ô SEIGNEUR mon Dieu, je te prie, que l’âme de cet enfant revienne en lui.

 21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.

22 Et le SEIGNEUR entendit la voix d’Elijah (Élie) ; et l’âme de l’enfant revint en lui, et il se ranima.

 22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

23 Et Elijah (Élie) prit l’enfant, et le descendit de la chambre dans la maison, et le donna à sa mère ; et Elijah (Élie) dit : Regarde, ton fils vit.

 23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

24 Et la femme dit à Elijah (Élie) : Maintenant, à cela je sais que tu es un homme de Dieu, et que la parole du SEIGNEUR qui est dans ta bouche est vérité.

 24 ¶ And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.
