1 Alors Elisha (Elisée) : Écoutez la parole du SEIGNEUR. Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Demain, à peu près à cette heure, une mesure de fine farine sera vendue pour un shekel, et deux mesures d’orge pour un shekel, à la porte de Samarie.

 1 Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

2 Puis un seigneur, sur la main duquel le roi s’appuyait, répondit à l’homme de Dieu, et dit : Voici, quand le SEIGNEUR ferait des fenêtres au ciel, cela arriverait-il ? Et il dit : Voici, tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n’en mangeras pas.

 2 Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

3 Et il y avait à l’entrée de la porte quatre hommes lépreux ; et ils se dirent l’un à l’autre : Pourquoi restons-nous assis ici jusqu’à ce que nous mourions ?

 3 ¶ And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

4 Si nous disons :Nous entrerons dans la ville, la famine est dans la ville, et nous y mourrons ; et si nous restons assis ici, nous mourrons également. Venez donc, et glissons-nous dans le camp des Syriens s’ils nous laissent vivre, nous vivrons ; et s’ils nous tuent, nous mourrons.

 4 If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

5 Et ils se levèrent au crépuscule pour aller au camp des Syriens, et quand ils arrivèrent jusqu’à l’extrémité du camp des Syriens, voici, il n’y avait personne.

 5 And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

6 Car le Seigneur avait fait entendre dans le camp des Syriens un bruit de chariots et un bruit de chevaux, c’est-à-dire le bruit d’une grande armée, et ils s’étaient dit : l’un à l’autre Voici, le roi d’Israël a soudoyé les rois des Hittites (Héthiens) et les rois des Égyptiens, pour venir sur nous.

 6 For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

7 C’est pourquoi ils s’étaient levés au crépuscule, et s’étaient enfuis et ils avaient laissé leurs tentes, leurs chevaux, leurs ânes, le camp comme il était ; et ils s’étaient enfuis pour sauver leur vie.

 7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

8 Et quand ces lépreux arrivèrent à l’extrémité du camp, ils entrèrent dans une tente, et mangèrent et burent, et en emportèrent de l’argent, de l’or et des vêtements, et s’en allèrent et les cachèrent, et ils revinrent, et entrèrent dans une autre tente, et emportèrent de là aussi, et s’en allèrent et les cachèrent.

 8 And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

9 Alors ils se dirent l’un à l’autre : Nous ne faisons pas bien ; ce jour est un jour de bonnes nouvelles, et nous nous taisons. Si nous attendons jusqu’à la lumière du matin, quelque malheur viendra sur nous ; maintenant allons et rapportons-le à la maison du roi.

 9 Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.

10 Ainsi ils s’en allèrent et appelèrent le portier de la ville, et ils lui rapportèrent, disant : Nous sommes allés au camp des Syriens ; et voici, il n’y avait personne, ni voix d’homme ; mais des chevaux attachés et des ânes attachés, et les tentes telles qu’elles étaient.

 10 So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

11 Et il appela les portiers ; et ils le rapportèrent à l’intérieur de la maison du roi.

 11 And he called the porters; and they told it to the king’s house within.

12 ¶ Et le roi se leva de nuit et dit à ses serviteurs : Je vais maintenant vous montrer ce que les Syriens nous ont fait. Ils savent que nous avons faim ; c’est pourquoi ils sont sortis du camp pour se cacher dans la campagne, disant : Quand ils sortiront de la ville, nous les prendrons vivants, et nous entrerons dans la ville.

 12 ¶ And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.

13 Et l’un de ses serviteurs répondit et dit : Qu’on prenne, je te prie, cinq des chevaux restants, qui subsistent dans la ville ; (voici, ils sont comme toute la multitude d’Israël qui est de reste en elle ; voici, dis-je, ils sont comme toute la multitude des Israelites qui sont consumés) ; et envoyons-les pour voir.

 13 And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.

14 Ils prirent donc deux chariots avec leurs chevaux ; et le roi les envoya après l’armée des Syriens, disant : Allez, et voyez.

 14 They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

15 Et ils s’en allèrent après eux jusqu’au Jourdain ; et voici, tout le chemin était plein de vêtements et d’ustensiles que les Syriens avaient jetés dans leur précipitation. Et les messagers revinrent, et le rapportèrent au roi.

 15 And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.

16 Et le peuple sortit, et pilla les tentes des Syriens. Si bien qu’une mesure de fine farine était vendue pour un shekel, et deux mesures d’orge pour un shekel, selon la parole du SEIGNEUR.

 16 And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

17 ¶ Et le roi assigna au seigneur sur la main duquel il s’appuyait la garde de la porte ; et le peuple l’écrasa à la porte, et il mourut, comme l’homme de Dieu l’avait dit en parlant au roi, quand il était descendu vers lui.

 17 ¶ And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spake when the king came down to him.

18 Et il arriva comme l’homme de Dieu avait dit au roi, disant : Demain matin à peu près à cette heure-ci, à la porte de Samarie, deux mesures d’orge seront à un shekel, et une mesure de fine farine à un shekel,

 18 And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:

19 Et le seigneur avait répondu à l’homme de Dieu, et avait dit : Or, voici, quand le SEIGNEUR ferait des fenêtres au ciel, pareille chose arriverait-elle ? Et il avait dit : Voici, tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n’en mangeras pas.

 19 And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

20 Et il lui en arriva ainsi ; car le peuple l’écrasa à la porte, et il en mourut.

 20 And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.
