1 En la septième année de Jehu, Joash commença de régner ; et il régna quarante ans à Jérusalem. Et le nom de sa mère était Zibiah, de Beersheba.

 1 In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

2 Et Joash fit ce qui était droit à la vue du SEIGNEUR, tous les jours pendant lesquels Jehoiada, le prêtre, l’instruisit.

 2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

3 Mais les hauts lieux ne furent pas ôtés ; le peuple sacrifiait et brûlait encore de l’encens dans les hauts lieux.

 3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

4 ¶ Et Joash dit aux prêtres : Tout l’argent des choses dédiées qui est apporté dans la maison du SEIGNEUR, c’est-à-dire l’argent de chacun qui passe par le dénombrement, l’argent que chaque homme a mis de côté, et tout l’argent qui vient au cœur de chacun d’apporter dans la maison du SEIGNEUR,

 4 ¶ And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the LORD,

5 Que les prêtres le prennent à chaque homme de sa connaissance, et qu’ils réparent les brèches de la maison, partout où seront trouvées des brèches.

 5 Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.

6 Mais il arriva que la vingt-troisième année du roi Joash, les prêtres n’avaient pas encore réparé les brèches de la maison.

 6 But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.

7 Alors le roi Joash appela Jehoiada, le prêtre et les autres prêtres, et leur dit : Pourquoi ne réparez-vous pas les brèches de la maison ? Maintenant donc, ne prenez plus d’argent de vos connaissances, mais remettez-le pour les brèches de la maison.

 7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.

8 Et les prêtres consentirent à ne plus recevoir l’argent du peuple, et à ne pas réparer les brèches de la maison.

 8 And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.

9 Mais Jehoiada, le prêtre prit un coffre, et fit un trou à son couvercle, et le mit près de l’autel, sur le côté droit quand on entre dans la maison du SEIGNEUR ; et les prêtres qui gardaient l’entrée mettaient là tout l’argent qui était apporté à la maison du SEIGNEUR.

 9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.

10 Et il arrivait ainsi, lorsqu’ils voyaient qu’il y avait beaucoup d’argent dans le coffre, que le scribe du roi et le grand prêtre montaient ; et ils mettaient dans des sacs l’argent qui se trouvait dans la maison du SEIGNEUR, puis ils le comptaient.

 10 And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.

11 Et ils donnaient l’argent bien compté entre les mains de ceux qui faisaient l’ouvrage, qui avaient la surveillance de la maison du SEIGNEUR ; et ils le distribuaient aux charpentiers et aux ouvriers qui travaillaient à la maison du SEIGNEUR,

 11 And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,

12 Et aux maçons et aux tailleurs de pierres, afin d’acheter le bois et des pierres de taille pour réparer les brèches de la maison du SEIGNEUR, et pour tout ce qui se dépensait pour la réparation de la maison.

 12 And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

13 Quoi qu’il en soit on ne faisait pas pour la maison du SEIGNEUR de coupes d’argent, ni de mouchettes, ni de bassins, ni de trompettes, ni aucun autre ustensile d’or ou d’argent, avec l’argent qui était apporté dans la maison du SEIGNEUR

 13 Howbeit there were not made for the house of the LORD bowls of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD:

14 Mais on le donnait aux ouvriers, et ils en réparaient la maison du SEIGNEUR.

 14 But they gave that to the workmen, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD.

15 De plus on ne demandait pas le compte aux hommes entre les mains desquels on délivrait l’argent pour le distribuer aux travailleurs ; car ils agissaient fidèlement.

 15 Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.

16 L’argent de l’offrande de transgression, ainsi que l’argent de l’offrande pour le péché, n’était pas apporté dans la maison du SEIGNEUR ; il était aux prêtres.

 16 The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the priests’.

17 ¶ Alors Hazael, roi de Syrie, monta et se battit contre Gath et la prit ; et Hazael tourna son visage pour monter contre Jérusalem.

 17 ¶ Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.

18 Et Joash, roi de Judah (Juda), prit toutes les choses sanctifiées, que Jehoshaphat, Jehoram et Ahaziah, ses pères, rois de Judah (Juda), avaient dédiées, ainsi que ses propres choses dédiées, et tout l’or qui se trouva dans les trésors de la maison du SEIGNEUR et de la maison du roi, et il l’envoya à Hazael, roi de Syrie, et il se retira de Jérusalem.

 18 And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and in the king’s house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.

19 ¶ Et le reste des actes de Joash, et tout ce qu’il fit, ne sont-ils pas écrits dans le livre des chroniques des rois de Judah (Juda) ?

 19 ¶ And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

20 Et ses serviteurs se soulevèrent et, firent une conspiration, et tuèrent Joash dans la maison de Millo, qui est dans la descente de Silla.

 20 And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goeth down to Silla.

21 Car Jozachar, le fils de Shimeath, et Jehozabad, le fils de Shomer, ses serviteurs, le frappèrent, et il mourut ; et on l’enterra avec ses pères, dans la cité de David ; et Amaziah (Amatsia), son fils, régna à sa place.

 21 For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
