1 En la vingt-troisième année de Joash (Joas), le fils d’Ahaziah (Achazia), roi de Judah (Juda), Jehoahaz, (Joachaz) le fils de Jehu, commença de régner sur Israël à Samarie, et régna dix-sept ans.

 1 In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.

2 Et il fit ce qui était mauvais à la vue du SEIGNEUR, et il suivit les péchés de Jeroboam, le fils de Nebat, par lesquels il avait fait pécher Israël, il ne s’en détourna pas.

 2 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

3 ¶ Et le courroux du SEIGNEUR s’embrasa contre Israël, et il les livra en la main de Hazael, roi de Syrie, et en la main de Benhadad, le fils de Hazael, durant tous leurs jours.

 3 ¶ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all their days.

4 Et Jehoahaz supplia le SEIGNEUR, et le SEIGNEUR l’écouta ; car il vit l’oppression d’Israël, parce que le roi de Syrie les opprimait.

 4 And Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

5 (Et le SEIGNEUR donna à Israël un sauveur, ainsi ils sortirent de dessous la main des Syriens et les enfants d’Israël demeurèrent dans leurs tentes, comme auparavant.

 5 (And the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.

6 Toutefois, ils ne se détournèrent pas des péchés de la maison de Jeroboam, qui avait fait pécher Israël ; mais ils y marchèrent, et le bosquet subsista à Samarie).

 6 Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)

7 Il n’avait laissé du peuple à Jehoahaz que cinquante cavaliers, et dix chariots, et dix mille fantassins ; car le roi de Syrie les avait détruits, et les avaient rendus comme la poussière dans l’aire.

 7 Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.

8 ¶ Or le reste des actes de Jehoahaz, et tout ce qu’il fit, et sa puissance, ne sont-ils pas écrits dans le livre des chroniques des rois d’Israël ?

 8 ¶ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

9 Et Jehoahaz s’endormit avec ses pères, et on l’enterra à Samarie ; et Joash (Joas) son fils régna à sa place.

 9 And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.

10 ¶ Durant la trente-septième année de Joash, roi de Judah (Juda), Joash, le fils de Jehoahaz, (Joachaz) commença de régner sur Israël à Samarie, et il régna seize ans.

 10 ¶ In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.

11 Et il fit ce qui était mauvais à la vue du SEIGNEUR il ne se détourna d’aucun des péchés de Jeroboam, le fils de Nebat, lequel avait fait pécher Israël ; mais il y marcha.

 11 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.

12 Et le reste des actes de Joash, et tout ce qu’il fit, et sa prouesse avec laquelle il combattit contre Amaziah (Amatsia), roi de Judah (Juda), ne sont-ils pas écrits dans le livre des chroniques des rois d’Israël ?

 12 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

13 Et Joash s’endormit avec ses pères, et Jeroboam s’assit sur son trône ; et Joash fut enterré à Samarie avec les rois d’Israël.

 13 And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

14 ¶ Or Elisha (Elisée) était tombé malade de la maladie dont il mourut. Et Joash, le roi d’Israël, descendit vers lui et pleura sur son visage, et dit : Ô mon père, mon père, le chariot d’Israël et sa cavalerie.

 14 ¶ Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.

15 Et Elisha (Elisée) lui dit : Prends un arc et des flèches. Et il prit un arc et des flèches.

 15 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.

16 Et il dit au roi d’Israël : Mets ta main sur l’arc. Et il y mit sa main, et Elisha (Elisée) mit ses mains sur les mains du roi,

 16 And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.

17 Et il dit : Ouvre la fenêtre vers l’Est. Et il l’ouvrit. Et Elisha (Elisée) dit : Tire. Et il tira. Et il dit : C’est la flèche de délivrance de la part du SEIGNEUR, et la flèche de délivrance contre les Syriens ; car tu frapperas les Syriens à Aphek, jusqu’à ce que tu les aies consumés.

 17 And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD’S deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.

18 Et il dit : Prends les flèches. Et il les prit. Et il dit au roi d’Israël : Frappe contre terre. Et il frappa trois fois, et s’arrêta.

 18 And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.

19 Et l’homme de Dieu s’irrita contre lui, et dit : Tu aurais dû frapper cinq ou six fois ; alors tu aurais frappé la Syrie jusqu’à ce que tu l’aies consumée ; tandis que maintenant tu frapperas la Syrie trois fois.

 19 And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

20 ¶ Et Elisha (Elisée) mourut, et on l’enterra. Et, des bandes de Moabites envahirent le pays au commencement de l’année suivante.

 20 ¶ And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

21 Et il arriva que, comme ils enterraient un homme, voici, ils remarquèrent une de ces bandes, et ils jetèrent l’homme dans le sépulcre d’Elisha (Elisée) ; et quand ils descendirent l’homme, il toucha les os d’Elisha (Elisée), il revint à la vie, et se leva sur ses pieds.

 21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

22 ¶ Or Hazael, roi de Syrie, opprima Israël pendant tous les jours de Jehoahaz.

 22 ¶ But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

23 Et le SEIGNEUR leur fit grâce, et eut compassion d’eux, et eut de l’Estime pour eux à cause de son alliance avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob ; et il ne voulut pas les détruire ; ni ne les rejeta de sa présence jusqu’à présent.

 23 And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.

24 Alors Hazael, roi de Syrie mourut, et Benhadad, son fils régna à sa place.

 24 So Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his stead.

25 Et Joash, le fils de Jehoahaz reprit de la main de Benhadad, le fils de Hazael, les villes que celui-ci avait prises, dans la guerre, de la main de Jehoahaz, son père. Joash le battit trois fois, et recouvra les villes d’Israël.

 25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
