1 Durant la seconde année de Joash, fils de Jehoahaz, roi d’Israël, Amaziah (Amatsia), le fils de Joash, roi de Judah (Juda), régnait.

 1 In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah.

2 Il était âgé de vingt-cinq ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna vingt-neuf ans à Jérusalem. Et le nom de sa mère était Jehoaddan, de Jérusalem.

 2 He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

3 Et il fit ce qui était droit à la vue du SEIGNEUR ; non pas toutefois comme David, son père ; il fit selon toutes les choses que Joash, son père avait faites.

 3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.

4 Quoi qu’il en soit les hauts lieux ne furent pas ôtés ; le peuple sacrifiait et brûlait encore de l’encens sur les hauts lieux.

 4 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.

5 ¶ Et il arriva que, dès que le royaume fut affermi en sa main, il fit mourir ses serviteurs qui avaient tué le roi, son père.

 5 ¶ And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.

6 Mais il ne fit pas mourir les enfants de ceux qui l’avaient tué ; suivant ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la loi de Moïse, dans lequel le SEIGNEUR a commandé, disant : Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les enfants, et les enfants ne seront pas non plus mis à mort pour les pères ; mais chacun sera mis à mort pour son péché.

 6 But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

7 Il tua dix mille hommes d’Edom dans la vallée du Sel, et prit Selah par guerre, et l’appela du nom de Joktheel, jusqu’à ce jour.

 7 He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.

8 ¶ Alors Amaziah (Amatsia) envoya des messagers vers Joash, le fils de Jehoahaz, fils de Jehu, roi d’Israël, disant : Viens, voyons-nous face à face.

 8 ¶ Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

9 Et Joash, le roi d’Israël, envoya vers Amaziah (Amatsia), roi de Judah (Juda). disant : Le chardon qui était au Liban a envoyé dire au cèdre qui était au Liban, disant : Donne ta fille pour femme à mon fils ; et une bête sauvage qui était au Liban a passé et a piétiné le chardon.

 9 And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

10 Tu as effectivement frappé Edom, et ton cœur t’a élevé glorifie-t’en, et reste à la maison ; car pourquoi interviendrais-tu à ton mal par lequel tu tomberais, toi et Judah (Juda) avec toi ?

 10 Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

11 Mais Amaziah (Amatsia) ne voulut pas l’entendre. C’est pourquoi Joash, roi d’Israël monta ; et lui et Amaziah (Amatsia), roi de Judah (Juda), se virent face à face à Bethshemesh, qui est à Judah (Juda).

 11 But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Bethshemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

12 Et Judah (Juda) se trouva encore plus battu devant Israël ; et ils s’enfuirent chacun dans sa tente.

 12 And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.

13 Et Joash, roi d’Israël, prit Amaziah (Amatsia), roi de Judah (Juda), le fils de Joash, le fils d’Ahaziah, à Bethshemesh¸ et il vint à Jérusalem, et abattit la muraille de Jérusalem, depuis la porte d’Ephraim (Éphraïm) jusqu’à la porte du coin, de quatre cents coudées.

 13 And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Bethshemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

14 Et il prit tout l’or et l’argent et tous les ustensiles qui furent trouvés dans la maison du SEIGNEUR et dans les trésors de la maison du roi, et des otages, et il retourna à Samarie.

 14 And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.

15 ¶ Et le reste des actes de Joash, et sa prouesse, et comment il combattit contre Amaziah (Amatsia), roi de Judah (Juda), ne sont-ils pas écrits dans le livre des chroniques des rois d’Israël ?

 15 ¶ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16 Et Joash s’endormit avec ses pères, et fut enterré à Samarie avec les rois d’Israël ; et Jeroboam, son fils, régna à sa place.

 16 And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

17 ¶ Et Amaziah (Amatsia), le fils de Joash, roi de Judah (Juda), vécut quinze ans après la mort de Joash, fils de Jehoahaz, roi d’Israël.

 17 ¶ And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

18 Et le reste des actes d’Amaziah (Amatsia) ne sont-ils pas écrits dans le livre des chroniques des rois de Judah (Juda) ?

 18 And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19 Or on fit une conspiration contre lui à Jérusalem, et il s’enfuit à Lachish ; mais on envoya le chercher à Lachish, et on le tua là.

 19 Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

20 Et on le transporta sur des chevaux, et il fut enterré à Jérusalem avec ses pères, dans la cité de David.

 20 And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

21 ¶ Et tout le peuple de Judah (Juda) prit Azariah qui était âgé de seize ans, et ils le firent roi à la place de son père Amaziah (Amatsia).

 21 ¶ And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.

22 Il bâtit Elath, et la rétablie pour Judah (Juda), après que le roi se fut endormi avec ses pères.

 22 He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

23 ¶ Durant la quinzième année d’Amaziah (Amatsia), le fils de Joash, roi de Judah (Juda), Jeroboam, le fils de Joash, roi d’Israël, commença à régner à Samarie, et régna quarante et un ans.

 23 ¶ In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.

24 Et il fit ce qui était mauvais à la vue du SEIGNEUR, il ne se détourna d’aucun des péchés de Jeroboam, le fils de Nebat, qui avait fait pécher Israël.

 24 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

25 Il rétablit les frontières d’Israël, depuis l’entrée de Hamath jusqu’à la mer de la plaine, selon la parole du SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, qu’il avait prononcée par la main de son serviteur Jonah, (Jonas) le prophète, fils d’Amittai, qui était de Gathhepher.

 25 He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gathhepher.

26 Car le SEIGNEUR vit l’affliction d’Israël qui était très amère, car il n’y avait plus personne, ni sous les verrous, ni libre, ni personne qui aide Israël.

 26 For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.

27 Et le SEIGNEUR n’avait pas dit qu’il effacerait le nom d’Israël de dessous le ciel ; mais il les sauva par la main de Jeroboam, le fils de Joash.

 27 And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

28 ¶ Et le reste des actes de Jeroboam, et tout ce qu’il fit, et sa prouesse, comment il fit la guerre, et comment il reconquit pour Israël Damas et Hamath, qui étaient à Judah (Juda), ne sont-ils pas écrits dans le livre des chroniques des rois d’Israël ?

 28 ¶ Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

29 Et Jeroboam s’endormit avec ses pères, c’est-à-dire les rois d’Israël ; et Zachariah (Zacharie), son fils, régna à sa place.

 29 And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.
