1 Et il arriva, lorsque le roi Hezekiah (Ézéchias) l’entendit, qu’il déchira ses vêtements, et se couvrit d’un sac, et entra dans la maison du SEIGNEUR.

 1 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.

2 Et il envoya Eliakim, qui était le majordome, et Shebna, le scribe, et les anciens des prêtres, couverts de sacs, vers Isaiah (Ésaïe), le prophète, le fils d’Amoz (Amots).

 2 And he sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

3 Et ils lui dirent : Ainsi dit Hezekiah (Ézéchias) : Ce jour est un jour de souci, et de répréhension et de blasphème car les enfants sont venus jusqu’à la naissance, et il n’y a pas de vigueur pour enfanter.

 3 And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

4 Peut-être le SEIGNEUR ton Dieu aura entendu toutes les paroles de Rabshakeh, que le roi d’Assyrie, son maître, a envoyé pour outrager le Dieu vivant, et censurera-t-il les paroles que le SEIGNEUR, ton Dieu, a entendues ; c’est pourquoi fais monter ta prière pour le restant qui sont restés.

 4 It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left.

5 Ainsi les serviteurs du roi Hezekiah (Ézéchias) vinrent vers Isaiah (Ésaïe) ;

 5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

6 ¶ Et Isaiah (Ésaïe) leur dit : Vous parlerez ainsi à votre maître : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR : Ne crains pas à cause des paroles que tu as entendues, par lesquelles les serviteurs du roi d’Assyrie m’ont blasphémé.

 6 ¶ And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

7 Voici, je vais envoyer sur lui une secousse, et il entendra une rumeur, et il retournera dans son pays ; et je le ferai tomber par l’épée dans son pays.

 7 Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

8 ¶ Ainsi Rabshakeh s’en retourna, et trouva le roi d’Assyrie faisant la guerre à Libnah car il avait appris qu’il était parti de Lachish (Lakish).

 8 ¶ So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

9 Et quand il entendit dire au sujet de Tirhakah, roi d’Éthiopie Voici, il est sorti pour se battre contre toi. Il envoya de nouveau des messagers à Hezekiah, disant :

 9 And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against thee: he sent messengers again unto Hezekiah, saying,

10 Ainsi vous parlerez à Hezekiah, roi de Judah (Juda), disant : Que ton Dieu, en qui tu te confies, ne te trompe pas, disant : Jérusalem ne sera pas livrée en la main du roi d’Assyrie.

 10 Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

11 Voici, tu as entendu ce que les rois d’Assyrie ont fait à tous les pays en les détruisant entièrement ; et toi, tu serais délivré ?

 11 Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?

12 Est-ce que les dieux des nations que mes pères ont détruites les ont délivrés, comme Gozan, et Haran, et Rezeph et les enfants d’Eden, qui étaient en Thelasar ?

 12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar?

13 Où est le roi de Hamath, et le roi d’Arpad, et le roi de la ville de Sepharvaim, de Hena et d’Ivah ?

 13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah?

14 ¶ Et Hezekiah (Ézéchias) reçut la lettre de la main des messagers, et la lue, et Hezekiah (Ézéchias) monta à la maison du SEIGNEUR, et la déploya devant le SEIGNEUR.

 14 ¶ And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

15 Et Hezekiah (Ézéchias) pria devant le SEIGNEUR et dit : Ô SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël, qui demeures entre les chérubins, toi seul, tu es le Dieu de tous les royaumes de la terre ; c’est toi qui as fait le ciel et la terre.

 15 And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.

16 SEIGNEUR, incline ton oreille et écoute SEIGNEUR, ouvre tes yeux, et vois ; entends les paroles de Sennacherib, de celui qu’il a envoyé pour outrager le Dieu vivant.

 16 LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.

17 Il est vrai, SEIGNEUR, les rois d’Assyrie ont détruit les nations et leurs pays,

 17 Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,

18 Et ont jeté leurs dieux au feu ; car ce n’étaient pas des dieux, mais l’ouvrage de mains de l’homme, de bois et de pierre ; c’est pourquoi ils les ont détruits.

 18 And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.

19 Maintenant donc, ô SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu, je te supplie, sauve-nous de sa main, afin que tous les royaumes de la terre puissent savoir que tu es le SEIGNEUR Dieu, c’est-à-dire toi seul.

 19 Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only.

20 ¶ Puis Isaiah (Ésaïe), le fils d’Amoz, envoya vers Hezekiah, disant : Ainsi dit le SEIGNEUR Dieu d’Israël : J’ai entendu la prière que tu m’as faite au sujet de Sennacherib, roi d’Assyrie.

 20 ¶ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.

21 C’est ici la parole que le SEIGNEUR a prononcée le concernant : La vierge, la fille de Zion (Sion) te méprise, et te ccouvre de ridicule ; la fille de Jérusalem a secoué sa tête après toi.

 21 This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

22 Qui as-tu outragé et blasphémé ? Et contre qui as-tu élevé ta voix, et levé tes yeux en haut ? c’est-à-dire contre le Seul Saint d’Israël.

 22 Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

23 Par tes messagers tu as outragé le Seigneur, et tu as dit : Avec la multitude de mes chariots, je suis monté au sommet des montagnes, aux côtés du Liban ; et je couperai ses hauts cèdres et ses plus beaux sapins, et j’entrerai dans les logis de ses frontières, et dans la forêt de son Carmel.

 23 By thy messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.

24 J’ai creusé, et j’ai bu les eaux étrangères ; et de la plante de mes pieds j’ai desséché toutes les rivières des places assiégées.

 24 I have digged and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places.

25 N’as-tu pas entendu comment je l’ai fait il y a longtemps, et depuis les temps anciens je l’ai formé ? Maintenant je le fais arriver, pour que tu réduises les villes fortifiées en monceaux de ruines.

 25 Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps.

26 C’est pourquoi leurs habitants ont été de peu de vigueur, ils ont été effrayés et honteux ; ils sont devenus comme l’herbe des champs et comme la verte plante, comme l’herbe des toits et comme le grain brûlé avant qu’il soit en tige.

 26 Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.

27 Mais je connais ta demeure, et ta sortie et ton entrée, et ta rage contre moi.

 27 But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.

28 À cause de ta rage contre moi, et que ton insolence est montée à mes oreilles, c’est pourquoi je mettrai mon crochet à ton nez et mon mors entre tes lèvres ; et je te ferai retourner par le chemin par lequel tu es venu.

 28 Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

29 Et ceci sera un signe pour toi : On mangera cette année ce qui poussera de soi-même ; et la seconde année, ce qui croîtra sans qu’on sème ; et la troisième année, vous sèmerez et vous moissonnerez, et vous planterez des vignes et vous en mangerez le fruit.

 29 And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof.

30 Et le restant qui se sera échappé de la maison de Judah (Juda), poussera ses racines vers le bas, et produira du fruit vers le haut.

 30 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

31 Car de Jérusalem sortira un restant, et ceux qui se sont échappés du mont Sion ; la jalousie du SEIGNEUR des armées fera cela.

 31 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.

32 C’est pourquoi, ainsi dit le Seigneur concernant le roi d’Assyrie : Il n’entrera pas dans cette ville, il n’y lancera pas non plus de flèche, il ne se présentera pas non plus contre elle avec le bouclier, ni n’élèvera de talus contre elle.

 32 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.

33 Il s’en retournera par le chemin par lequel il est venu, et il n’entrera pas dans cette ville, dit le SEIGNEUR.

 33 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.

34 Car je défendrai cette ville pour la sauver, à cause de moi et à cause de David, mon serviteur.

 34 For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.

35 ¶ Et il arriva cette nuit-là, que l’ange du SEIGNEUR sortit et frappa dans le camp des Assyriens cent quatre vingt-cinq mille hommes ; et, quand on se leva le matin, voici c’étaient tous des corps morts.

 35 ¶ And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

36 Et Sennacherib, roi d’Assyrie, partit de là, s’en alla, et s’en retourna ; et demeura à Ninive.

 36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.

37 Et il arriva, comme il était en train d’adorer dans la maison de Nisroch, son dieu, qu’Adrammelech et Sharezer, ses fils, le frappèrent avec l’épée ; puis ils s’échappèrent dans le pays d’Arménie. Et Esarhaddon, son fils, régna à sa place.

 37 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
