1 Je suis l’homme qui a vu l’affliction par le bâton de sa colère.

 1 I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

2 Il m’a conduit et m’a amené aux ténèbres, et non à la lumière.

 2 He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.

3 Assurément contre moi il s’est tourné ; il tourne sa main contre moi tout le long du jour.

 3 Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.

4 Il a fait vieillir ma chair et ma peau ; il a brisé mes os.

 4 My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

5 Il a bâti contre moi, et m’a environné de fiel et de travail.

 5 He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

6 Il m’a placé dans des lieux sombres, comme ceux qui sont morts depuis longtemps.

 6 He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.

7 Il a élevé autour de moi une haie, afin que je ne puisse sortir ; il a alourdi ma chaîne.

 7 He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.

8 Même quand je crie, et que j’élève ma voix, il exclut ma prière.

 8 Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.

9 Il a fermé mes chemins avec des pierres taillées ; il a rendu mes sentiers tortueux.

 9 He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.

10 Il a été pour moi comme un ours en embuscade, et comme un lion dans les lieux cachés.

 10 He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.

11 Il a détourné mes chemins, et m’a mis en pièces ; il m’a mis dans la désolation.

 11 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.

12 Il a bandé son arc, et m’a placé comme une cible pour la flèche.

 12 He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

13 Il a fait entrer dans mes reins les flèches de son carquois.

 13 He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.

14 Je suis la risée de tout mon peuple, et leur chanson tout le long du jour.

 14 I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.

15 Il m’a rempli d’amertume ; il m’a enivré d’absinthe.

 15 He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.

16 Il m’a aussi cassé les dents avec du gravier ; il m’a couvert de cendre.

 16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.

17 Et tu as détourné mon âme loin de la paix ; j’ai oublié la prospérité.

 17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.

18 Et j’ai dit : Ma vigueur a péri, ainsi que mon espérance en le SEIGNEUR.

 18 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:

19 Me souvenant de mon affliction et de ma misère, de l’absinthe et du fiel.

 19 Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

20 Mon âme les a toujours en mémoire, et elle est abattue en moi.

 20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

21 Je rappelle ceci à ma pensée, c’est pourquoi j’ai l’espérance.

 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

22 ¶ Ceci se doit des miséricordes du SEIGNEUR, que nous ne sommes pas consumés, parce que ses compassions ne manquent pas.

 22 ¶ It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 Elles sont nouvelles chaque matin ; grande est ta fidélité.

 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

24 Le SEIGNEUR est ma portion, dit mon âme ; c’est pourquoi j’espérerai en lui.

 24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 Le SEIGNEUR est bon pour ceux qui s’attendent à lui, pour l’âme qui le cherche.

 25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

26 Il est bon d’espérer et d’attendre silencieusement le salut du SEIGNEUR.

 26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

27 Il est bon à l’homme de porter le joug en sa jeunesse.

 27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

28 Il est assis seul et se tait, parce qu’il l’a porté sur lui.

 28 He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.

29 Il met sa bouche dans la poussière ; ainsi peut-être y aura-il de l'espoir.

 29 He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.

30 Il présente sa joue à celui qui le frappe, il est rempli de déshonneurs.

 30 He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.

31 Car le SEIGNEUR ne rejettera pas pour toujours.

 31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever:

32 Mais bien qu’il fait souffrir, toutefois il aura compassion, selon la multitude de ses miséricordes.

 32 But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.

33 Car ce n’est pas volontiers qu’il afflige et fait souffrir les enfants des hommes.

 33 For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

34 D’écraser sous ses pieds tous les prisonniers de la terre,

 34 To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,

35 De détourner le droit d’un homme devant la face du Très-Haut,

 35 To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,

36 De faire du tort à un homme dans sa cause, le SEIGNEUR ne l’approuve pas.

 36 To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

37 ¶ Qui est-ce qui dit, et cela arrive, quand le SEIGNEUR ne l’a pas commandé ?

 37 ¶ Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

38 Le mal et le bien ne procèdent-ils pas de la bouche du Très-Haut ?

 38 Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?

39 Pourquoi un homme vivant se plaindrait-il, un homme à cause de la punition de ses péchés ?

 39 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

40 Recherchons, et sondons nos chemins, et retournons au SEIGNEUR.

 40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

41 Élevons nos cœurs avec nos mains vers Dieu dans les cieux.

 41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

42 Nous avons transgressé, et avons été rebelles ; tu n’as pas pardonné.

 42 We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

43 Tu nous as couvert de ton courroux, et tu nous as persécutés ; tu as tué, tu n’as pas eu pitié.

 43 Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

44 Tu t’es couvert d’un nuage, afin que notre prière ne passe pas.

 44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.

45 Tu nous as faits être comme la balayure et le rebut au milieu des peuples.

 45 Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.

46 Tous nos ennemis ont ouvert leurs bouches contre nous.

 46 All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.

47 La frayeur et le piège sont venus sur nous, la désolation et la destruction.

 47 Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction.

48 Mon œil s’écoule en ruisseaux d’eaux, à cause de la destruction de la fille de mon peuple.

 48 Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

49 Mon œil coule goutte-à-goutte et ne cesse pas, sans aucune interruption,

 49 Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

50 Jusqu’à ce que le SEIGNEUR regarde et contemple du ciel.

 50 Till the LORD look down, and behold from heaven.

51 Mon œil émeut mon cœur, à cause de toutes les filles de ma ville.

 51 Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.

52 Mes ennemis sans cause m’ont donné la chasse comme à un oiseau.

 52 Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.

53 Ils ont retranché ma vie dans un donjon et ont roulé une pierre sur moi.

 53 They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me.

54 Les eaux montèrent par-dessus ma tête ; puis je disais je suis retranché.

 54 Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off.

55 ¶ J’ai appelé ton nom, ô SEIGNEUR, du fond du donjon.

 55 ¶ I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.

56 Tu as entendu ma voix ; ne cache pas ton oreille afin que je respire en mon cri

 56 Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

57 Tu t’es approché au jour où je t’ai appelé, tu as dit : Ne crains pas.

 57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.

58 Ô SEIGNEUR, tu as plaidé les causes de mon âme, tu as racheté ma vie.

 58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

59 Ô SEIGNEUR, tu as vu mon tort ; juge ma cause.

 59 O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.

60 Tu as vu toute leur vengeance, et toutes leurs machinations contre moi.

 60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me.

61 Tu as entendu, leur outrage, ô SEIGNEUR et toutes leurs machinations contre moi ;

 61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;

62 Les lèvres de ceux qui s’élevaient contre moi, et leur dessein contre moi tout le long du jour.

 62 The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

63 Voici quand ils s’asseyent et quand ils se lèvent, je suis leur chanson.

 63 Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.

64 ¶ Rends-leur une récompense, ô SEIGNEUR, selon l’ouvrage de leurs mains.

 64 ¶ Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.

65 Donne-leur la douleur au cœur ; ta malédiction soit sur eux.

 65 Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.

66 Persécute-les et détruis-les dans ton courroux de dessous les cieux du SEIGNEUR.

 66 Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.
