1 Et il arriva, comme il entrait dans la maison d’un des principaux Pharisiens pour manger du pain le jour du sabbat, qu’ils l’observaient.

 1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

2 Et, voici, il y avait un certain homme devant lui qui avait un œdème.

 2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

3 Et Jésus répondant, parla aux hommes de loi et aux Pharisiens, disant: Est-il permis de guérir le jour du sabbat?

 3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

4 Et ils demeurèrent silencieux. Et il le prit et le guérit et le laissa aller;

 4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

5 Et il leur répondit, disant: Lequel de vous aura un âne ou un bœuf tombé dans une fosse, et ne voudra pas aussitôt l’en retirer le jour du sabbat?

 5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

6 Et de nouveau ils ne pouvaient pas lui répondre sur ces choses.

 6 And they could not answer him again to these things.

7 ¶ Et il proposa une parabole à ceux qui avaient été conviés, lorsqu’il remarqua comment ils choisissaient les places importantes; leur disant:

 7 ¶ And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

8 Quand tu es convié par quelqu’un à un mariage, ne t’assieds pas à la place la plus élevée; de peur qu’un homme plus honorable que toi ne soit convié par lui;

 8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

9 Et que celui qui vous a conviés, toi et lui, ne vienne et te dise: Donne la place à cet homme; et que tu ne commences avec honte à prendre la place la plus basse.

 9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

10 Mais, quand tu es convié, va et assieds-toi à la place la plus basse; afin que lorsque viendra celui qui t’a convié, il puisse te dire: Ami, monte plus haut: alors tu auras de l’honneur en la présence de ceux qui seront assis à table avec toi.

 10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

11 Car quiconque s’élève sera abaissé; et celui qui s’humilie sera élevé.

 11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

12 ¶ Puis il dit aussi à celui qui l’avait convié: Quand tu fais un dîner ou un souper, n’appelle pas tes amis, ni tes frères, ni ta parenté, ni tes riches voisins; de peur qu’ils ne te convient à leur tour, et que la pareille ne te soit rendue.

 12 ¶ Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

13 Mais quand tu fais un festin, appelle les pauvres, les estropiés, les boiteux et les aveugles:

 13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

14 Et tu seras béni; car ils ne peuvent pas te rendre la pareille: car tu recevras la pareille à la résurrection des justes.

 14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

15 ¶ Et quand un de ceux qui étaient assis à table avec lui entendit ces choses, il lui dit: Béni est celui qui mangera du pain dans le royaume de Dieu.

 15 ¶ And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16 Puis il lui dit: Un certain homme fit un grand souper, et y convia beaucoup de personnes:

 16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

17 Et il envoya son serviteur à l’heure du souper dire à ceux qui étaient conviés: Venez; car toutes les choses sont maintenant prêtes.

 17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18 Et ils commencèrent tous d’un commun accord à s’excuser. Le premier lui dit: J’ai acheté un lopin de terre, et j’ai besoin d’aller et de le voir: je te prie de m’excuser.

 18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

19 Et un autre dit: J’ai acheté cinq paires de bœufs, et je m’en vais les essayer: je te prie de m’excuser.

 19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

20 Et un autre dit: J’ai épousé une femme, et par conséquent je ne peux pas venir.

 20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 Ainsi ce serviteur revint, et déclara ces choses à son seigneur. Alors le maître de la maison en colère dit à son serviteur: Va vite dans les rues et les ruelles de la ville, et amène ici les pauvres, et les estropiés, et les boiteux et les aveugles.

 21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

22 Et le serviteur dit: Seigneur, il a été fait ainsi que tu as commandé, et il y a encore de la place.

 22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

23 Et le seigneur dit au serviteur: Va par les routes et le long des haies, et contrains-les d’entrer, afin que ma maison soit remplie.

 23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 Car je vous dis: Qu’aucun de ces hommes qui avaient été conviés ne goûtera de mon souper.

 24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

25 ¶ Et de grandes multitudes allaient avec lui: et il se tourna, et leur dit:

 25 ¶ And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

26 Si un homme vient à moi, et ne hait pas son père, et sa mère, et sa femme, et ses enfants, et ses frères, et ses sœurs, oui, et même sa propre vie, il ne peut être mon disciple.

 26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27 Et quiconque ne porte pas sa croix, et ne vient pas après moi, ne peut être mon disciple.

 27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

28 Car lequel de vous, envisageant de bâtir une tour, ne s’assied d’abord, et ne calcule la dépense, pour voir s’il a suffisamment pour l’achever?

 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

29 De peur, qu’après qu’il en a posé la fondation, et ne soit pas capable de l’achever, tous ceux qui la regarderont ne commencent à se moquer de lui,

 29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

30 Disant: Cet homme a commencé à bâtir, et n’a pas été capable d’achever.

 30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

31 Ou quel roi, partant pour faire la guerre contre un autre roi, ne s’assied pas d’abord, et ne consulte pour savoir s’il est capable avec dix mille, d’aller à la rencontre de celui qui vient contre lui avec vingt mille?

 31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32 Ou bien, tandis que l’autre est encore très loin, il lui envoie une ambassade, et souhaite des conditions de paix.

 32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

33 Ainsi de même, quiconque parmi vous ne renonce pas à tout ce qu’il a, ne peut être mon disciple.

 33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

34 ¶ Le sel est bon: mais si le sel a perdu sa saveur, avec quoi l’assaisonnera-t-on?

 34 ¶ Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35 Ce n’est ni bon pour la terre, ni même pour le fumier; mais les hommes le jettent dehors. Celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre, qu’il entende.

 35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
