1 Et il disait aussi à ses disciples: Il y avait un certain homme riche, qui avait un intendant; et celui-ci fut accusé devant lui d’avoir gaspillé ses biens.

 1 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.

2 Et il l’appela et lui dit: Comment se fait-il que j’entende dire ceci de toi? Rends compte de ton intendance; car tu ne peux plus être intendant.

 2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.

3 Alors l’intendant dit en lui-même: Que ferai-je? car mon seigneur m’ôte l’intendance: je ne peux pas creuser; j’ai honte de mendier.

 3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.

4 J’ai résolu ce que je vais faire, afin que, quand je serai renvoyé de l’intendance, ils puissent me recevoir dans leurs maisons.

 4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.

5 Ainsi il appela à lui chacun des débiteurs de son seigneur, et dit au premier: Combien dois-tu à mon seigneur?

 5 So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?

6 Et il dit: Cent mesures d’huile. Et il lui dit: Prends ton relevé, et assieds-toi vite, et écris cinquante.

 6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.

7 Puis il dit à un autre: Et toi, combien dois-tu? Et il dit: Cent mesures de blé. Et il lui dit: Prends ton relevé, et écris quatre-vingts.

 7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.

8 Et le seigneur loua l’intendant injuste, parce qu’il avait agi avec sagesse: car les enfants de ce monde sont plus sages dans leur génération, que les enfants de lumière.

 8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

9 Et je vous dis: Faites-vous des amis du mammon de l’injustice; afin que, lorsque vous viendrez à manquer, ils puissent vous recevoir dans les habitations sempiternelles.

 9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

10 Celui qui est fidèle dans ce qui est moindre, est aussi fidèle dans beaucoup: et celui qui est inique dans les moindres est aussi inique dans beaucoup.

 10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

11 Si donc vous n’avez pas été fidèles dans le mammon dépravé, qui vous confiera la vraie richesse?

 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

12 Et si vous n’avez pas été fidèles dans ce qui est à un autre, qui vous donnera ce qui est vôtre?

 12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?

13 ¶ Nul serviteur ne peut servir deux maîtres: car ou il haïra l’un et aimera l’autre; ou bien il s’attachera à l’un et méprisera l’autre. Vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et mammon.

 13 ¶ No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

14 Et les Pharisiens aussi, qui étaient convoiteux, entendaient toutes ces choses: et ils le bafouaient.

 14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

15 Et il leur dit: Vous êtes ceux qui se justifient eux-mêmes devant les hommes; mais Dieu connaît vos cœurs: car ce qui est hautement estimé parmi les hommes est en abomination à la vue de Dieu.

 15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

16 La loi et les prophètes étaient jusqu’à Jean: depuis ce moment-là le royaume de Dieu est prêché, et tout homme s’y presse.

 16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

17 Et il est plus facile au ciel et à la terre de passer, qu’à un seul trait de lettre de la loi de faire défaut.

 17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

18 Quiconque répudie sa femme et se marie à une autre, commet adultère: et quiconque se marie à celle que son mari a répudiée, commet adultère.

 18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.

19 ¶ Il y avait un certain homme riche, qui était vêtu de pourpre et de fin lin, et qui vivait pompeusement chaque jour:

 19 ¶ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

20 Et il y avait un certain mendiant, nommé Lazare, lequel était étendu à sa porte, tout couvert d’ulcères,

 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

21 Et désirant se nourrir des miettes qui tombaient de la table de l’homme riche: de plus les chiens venaient lécher ses ulcères.

 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

22 Et il arriva que le mendiant mourut, et fut porté par les anges dans le sein d’Abraham: l’homme riche mourut aussi, et fut enterré;

 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

23 Et en enfer il lève ses yeux, étant dans les tourments, et voit Abraham au loin, et Lazare dans son sein.

 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 Et il s’écria, et dit: Père Abraham, aie miséricorde envers moi, et envoie Lazare, afin qu’il puisse tremper dans l’eau le bout de son doigt, et rafraîchir ma langue; car je suis tourmenté dans cette flamme.

 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

25 Mais Abraham dit, Fils, souviens-toi que pendant ta vie tu as reçu tes bonnes choses, et de même Lazare les mauvaises choses: mais maintenant il est consolé, et toi tu es tourmenté.

 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

26 Et en plus de tout cela, il y a un grand gouffre établi entre nous et vous: de sorte que ceux qui voudraient passer d’ici à vous ne le peuvent; ceux qui voudraient passer de là jusqu’à nous ne le peuvent non plus.

 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

27 Alors il dit: Je te prie donc, père, que tu l’envoies à la maison de mon père:

 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:

28 Car j’ai cinq frères; afin qu’il puisse leur témoigner, de peur qu’ils ne viennent aussi dans ce lieu de tourment.

 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

29 Abraham lui dit: Ils ont Moïse et les prophètes; qu’ils les entendent.

 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

30 Et il dit: Non, père Abraham: mais si quelqu’un va d’entre les morts vers eux, ils se repentiront.

 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

31 Et il lui dit: S’ils n’entendent pas Moïse et les prophètes, ils ne seront pas non plus persuadés, même si quelqu’un ressuscitait d’entre les morts.

 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
