1 Et maintenant, ô vous, prêtres, ce commandement est pour vous.

 1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.

2 Si vous ne voulez pas entendre, et si vous ne le prenez pas à cœur, pour donner gloire à mon nom, dit le SEIGNEUR des armées, j’enverrai sur vous la malédiction, et je maudirai vos bénédictions ; oui, je les ai déjà maudites, parce que vous ne le prenez pas à cœur.

 2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

3 Voici, je corromprai votre semence, et je répandrai des excréments de vos victimes sur vos visages, les excréments dis-je de vos fêtes solennelles ; et on vous emportera avec eux.

 3 Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.

4 Et vous saurez que je vous ai envoyé ce commandement, afin que mon alliance puisse être avec Levi (Lévi), dit le SEIGNEUR des armées.

 4 And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.

5 Mon alliance de vie et de paix était avec lui, et je les lui donnai pour la crainte avec laquelle il m’a craint, et a été effrayé devant mon nom.

 5 My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.

6 La loi de vérité était dans sa bouche, et l’iniquité n’a pas été trouvée sur ses lèvres. Il marcha avec moi dans la paix et dans l’équité, et il en a détourné beaucoup de l’iniquité.

 6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.

7 Car les lèvres du prêtre devraient garder la connaissance, et de sa bouche, on devrait rechercher la loi ; car il est le messager du SEIGNEUR des armées.

 7 For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

8 Mais vous, vous vous êtes écartés du chemin ; vous avez fait trébucher beaucoup à l’égard de la loi ; vous avez corrompu l’alliance de Levi (Lévi), dit le SEIGNEUR des armées.

 8 But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.

9 C’est pourquoi, moi aussi, je vous ai rendu méprisables et innommables devant tout le peuple, parce que vous n’avez pas gardé mes chemins, et que vous avez agi avec partialité en ce qui concerne la loi.

 9 Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.

10 N’avons-nous pas tous un même père ? Un seul Dieu ne nous a-t-il pas créés ? Pourquoi agissons-nous perfidement chacun contre son frère, en profanant l’alliance de nos pères ?

 10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

11 ¶Judah (Juda) a agi perfidement, et une abomination est commise en Israël et à Jérusalem ; car Judah (Juda) a profané la sainteté du SEIGNEUR, qu’il aimait, et s’est marié à la fille d’un dieu étrange.

 11 ¶ Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.

12 Le SEIGNEUR retranchera des tabernacles de Jacob l’homme qui fait cela, tant le maître que l’érudit, et celui qui offre une offrande au SEIGNEUR des armées.

 12 The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.

13 Et ceci encore que vous avez fait couvrant l’autel du SEIGNEUR de larmes, de pleurs et de gémissements, tellement qu’il ne regarde plus à l’offrande, et ni ne la reçoit de bon gré de vos mains.

 13 And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.

14 ¶ Maintenant vous dites : pourquoi ? Parce que le SEIGNEUR a été témoin entre toi et la femme de ta jeunesse, contre laquelle tu as agi perfidement, toutefois elle est ta compagne et la femme de ton alliance.

 14 ¶ Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.

15 Et n’en a-t-il pas fait un seul ? Toutefois il avait le reste de l’esprit. Et pourquoi un seul ? Afin qu’il puisse chercher une semence pieuse. C’est pourquoi prenez garde à votre esprit, et que personne n’agisse perfidement envers la femme de sa jeunesse.

 15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

16 Car le SEIGNEUR, le Dieu d’Israël dit qu’il hait la répudiation, car on couvre la violence sous son vêtement, dit le SEIGNEUR des armées ; c’est pourquoi prenez garde à votre esprit, que vous n’agissiez pas perfidement.

 16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

17 ¶ Vous avez lassé le SEIGNEUR par vos paroles, maintenant vous dites : En quoi l’avons-nous lassé ? Quand vous dites : Quiconque fait le mal est bon aux yeux du SEIGNEUR, et c’est en eux qu’il prend plaisir ; ou bien où est le Dieu de jugement ?

 17 ¶ Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?
