1 Or Jésus étant né à Bethléhem de Judée, durant les jours du roi Hérode, des hommes sages de l’est arrivèrent à Jérusalem,

 1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2 Disant: Où est celui qui est né Roi des Juifs? Car nous avons vu son étoile à l’est, et nous sommes venus l’adorer.

 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

3 Lorsque le roi Hérode entendit ces choses, il fut troublé, et tout Jérusalem avec lui.

 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

4 Et lorsqu’il eut assemblé tous les principaux prêtres et scribes du peuple, il leur demanda où Christ devait naître.

 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

5 Et ils lui dirent: À Bethléhem de Judée: car il est ainsi écrit par le prophète,

 5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

6 Et toi, Bethléhem, en terre de Juda, tu n’es pas la moindre entre les princes de Juda: car de toi viendra un Gouverneur qui dirigera mon peuple Israël.

 6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

7 Alors Hérode lorsqu’il eut appelé en privé les hommes sages, s’enquit auprès d’eux soigneusement du moment où l’étoile était apparue.

 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

8 Et il les envoya à Bethléhem, et dit: Allez, et recherchez soigneusement le jeune enfant; et quand vous l’aurez trouvé, faites-le-moi savoir, afin que je puisse aussi aller l’adorer.

 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

9 Lorsqu’ils eurent entendu le roi, ils s’en allèrent; et, voici, l’étoile qu’ils avaient vue à l’est allait devant eux, jusqu’à ce qu’elle arrive et s’arrête au dessus du lieu où était le jeune enfant.

 9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

10 Quand ils virent l’étoile, ils se réjouirent d’une excessive grande joie.

 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11 ¶ Et lorsqu’ils entrèrent dans la maison, ils virent le jeune enfant, avec Marie sa mère, et tombèrent à terre et l’adorèrent: et lorsqu’ils eurent ouvert leurs trésors, ils lui présentèrent des cadeaux; de l’or, de l’encens et de la myrrhe.

 11 ¶ And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

12 Et étant avertis par Dieu dans un rêve qu’ils ne devaient pas retourner vers Hérode, ils regagnèrent leur pays par un autre chemin.

 12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13 Et lorsqu’ils furent partis, voici, l’ange du Seigneur apparut en rêve à Joseph, disant: Lève-toi, prends le jeune enfant et sa mère, et fuis en Égypte, et demeure là jusqu’à ce que je te le dise: car Hérode cherchera le jeune enfant pour le tuer.

 13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

14 Lorsqu’il se leva, il prit de nuit le jeune enfant et sa mère et partit en Égypte:

 14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15 Et il y demeura jusqu’à la mort d’Hérode: afin que puisse être réalisé ce que le Seigneur avait dit par le prophète, disant, J’ai appelé mon fils hors d’Égypte.

 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

16 ¶ Alors Hérode, lorsqu’il vit que les hommes sages s’étaient moqués de lui, fut extrêmement courroucé, et envoya tuer tous les enfants de deux ans et au-dessous qui étaient dans Bethléhem et dans toutes ses côtes, selon le moment dont il s’était enquis soigneusement auprès des hommes sages.

 16 ¶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

17 Alors fut réalisé ce qui a été dit par Jérémie le prophète, disant,

 17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,

18 Une voix a été entendue dans Rama, des lamentations, des pleurs et un grand deuil, Rachel pleurant ses enfants, et elle n’a pas voulu être consolée, parce qu’ils ne sont plus.

 18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

19 ¶ Mais après qu’Hérode fut mort, voici, un ange du Seigneur apparut en rêve à Joseph, en Égypte,

 19 ¶ But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20 Disant: Lève-toi, prends le jeune enfant et sa mère, et va dans la terre d’Israël: car ceux qui cherchaient à ôter la vie au jeune enfant sont morts.

 20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.

21 Et il se leva, et prit le jeune enfant et sa mère, et vint dans la terre d’Israël.

 21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

22 Mais quand il apprit qu’Archelaus régnait en Judée à la place de son père, Hérode, il eut peur d’y aller: toutefois, ayant été averti de Dieu dans un rêve, il se retira dans les régions de la Galilée:

 22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

23 Et il alla et demeura dans une ville appelée Nazareth: afin que puisse être réalisé ce qui avait été dit par les prophètes, il sera appelé un Nazaréen.

 23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
