1 Quand le matin fut venu, tous les principaux prêtres et les anciens du peuple tinrent conseil contre Jésus pour le mettre à mort:

 1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

2 Et après qu’ils l’eurent lié, ils l’emmenèrent et le livrèrent à Ponce Pilate, le gouverneur.

 2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

3 ¶ Alors Judas, qui l’avait trahi, quand il vit qu’il était condamné, se repentit, et rapporta les trente pièces d’argent aux principaux prêtres et aux anciens,

 3 ¶ Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

4 Disant: J’ai péché en ce que j’ai trahi le sang innocent. Et ils dirent: Qu’est-ce cela pour nous? Cela te regarde.

 4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

5 Et il jeta les pièces d’argent dans le temple, et partit, et alla et se pendit.

 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

6 Et les principaux prêtres prirent les pièces d’argent et dirent: Il n’est pas permis de les mettre dans le trésor, parce que c’est le prix du sang.

 6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

7 Et ils prirent conseil et achetèrent avec elles le champ du potier, pour y enterrer les étrangers.

 7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.

8 C’est pourquoi ce champ-là a été appelé le champ du sang, jusqu’à ce jour.

 8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

9 Alors fut réalisé ce qui avait été annoncé par Jérémie le prophète, disant, Et ils prirent les trente pièces d’argent, le prix de celui qui a été évalué, lequel ceux des enfants d’Israël ont évalué;

 9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;

10 Et ils les donnèrent pour le champ du potier, comme le Seigneur m’avait ordonné.

 10 And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.

11 Et Jésus se tint devant le gouverneur: et le gouverneur lui demanda, disant: Es-tu le Roi des Juifs? Et Jésus lui dit: Tu le dis.

 11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

12 Et lorsqu’il fut accusé par les principaux prêtres et les anciens, il ne répondit rien.

 12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

13 Alors Pilate lui dit: N’entends-tu pas combien de choses ils déposent en témoignage contre toi?

 13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

14 Et il ne lui répondit pas un mot; à tel point que le gouverneur s’en émerveilla grandement.

 14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

15 Or à cette fête, le gouverneur avait coutume de relâcher au peuple un prisonnier, celui qu’ils voulaient.

 15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.

16 Et ils avaient alors un prisonnier notoire, nommé Barabbas.

 16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

17 Par conséquent lorsqu’ils furent assemblés, Pilate leur dit: Lequel voulez-vous que je vous relâche? Barabbas ou Jésus qui est appelé Christ?

 17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?

18 Car il savait que c’était par envie qu’ils l’avaient livré.

 18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

19 ¶ Lorsqu’il fut assis sur le siège de jugement, sa femme envoya vers lui, disant, N’aie rien à faire avec cet homme juste: car j’ai beaucoup souffert aujourd’hui dans un rêve à cause de lui.

 19 ¶ When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

20 Mais les principaux prêtres et les anciens persuadèrent la multitude de demander Barabbas, et de tuer Jésus.

 20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

21 Le gouverneur répondit et leur dit: Lequel des deux voulez-vous que je vous relâche? et ils dirent: Barabbas.

 21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.

22 Pilate leur dit: Que ferai-je donc de Jésus qui est appelé Christ? Ils lui dirent tous: Qu’il soit crucifié.

 22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

23 Et le gouverneur dit: Pourquoi, quel mal a-t-il fait? Mais ils crièrent plus fort, disant: Qu’il soit crucifié.

 23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

24 ¶ Lorsque Pilate vit qu’il ne pouvait rien gagner, mais qu’au contraire un tumulte s’élevait, il prit de l’eau, et lava ses mains devant la multitude, disant: Je suis innocent du sang de cette personne juste: voyez à cela.

 24 ¶ When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

25 Alors tout le peuple répondit et dit: Que son sang soit sur nous, et sur nos enfants.

 25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

26 ¶ Alors il leur relâcha Barabbas: et quand il eut fait fouetter Jésus, il le livra pour être crucifié.

 26 ¶ Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

27 Alors les soldats du gouverneur amenèrent Jésus dans la salle commune, et ils assemblèrent autour de lui toute la bande de soldats.

 27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

28 Et ils le dévêtirent, et mirent sur lui une robe écarlate.

 28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

29 ¶ Et quand ils eurent tressé une couronne d’épines, ils la mirent sur sa tête, et un roseau dans sa main droite: et ils fléchirent le genou devant lui, et ils se moquaient de lui, disant: Salut, Roi des Juifs!

 29 ¶ And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

30 Et ils crachèrent sur lui, et prirent le roseau et lui en frappèrent la tête.

 30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

31 Et après qu’ils se furent moqués de lui, ils lui ôtèrent la robe et le vêtirent de son propre habillement, et l’emmenèrent pour le crucifier.

 31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

32 Et comme ils sortaient, ils trouvèrent un homme de Cyrène, Simon de nom: ils le contraignirent à porter sa croix.

 32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

33 Et quand ils arrivèrent vers un lieu appelé Golgotha, c’est-à-dire, un lieu d’un crâne,

 33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

34 ¶ Ils lui donnèrent à boire du vinaigre mêlé avec du fiel: et quand il l'eut goûté, il ne voulut pas boire.

 34 ¶ They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

35 Et ils le crucifièrent et partagèrent ses vêtements, tirant au sort: afin que puisse être réalisé ce qui a été dit par le prophète, Ils se sont partagé mes vêtements, et ils ont tiré ma vesture au sort.

 35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

36 Et s’asseyant, ils le regardaient là;

 36 And sitting down they watched him there;

37 Et ils placèrent au-dessus de sa tête son accusation, écrite: CELUI-CI EST JÉSUS LE ROI DES JUIFS.

 37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

38 Puis deux voleurs furent crucifiés avec lui, l’un à main droite, et l’autre sur la gauche.

 38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

39 ¶ Et ceux qui passaient l’injuriaient, secouant leur tête,

 39 ¶ And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

40 Et disant: Toi qui détruis le temple, et qui le rebâtis en trois jours, sauve-toi toi-même. Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, descends de la croix.

 40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

41 De même aussi les principaux prêtres, avec les scribes et les anciens, se moquant de lui, disaient:

 41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

42 Il a sauvé les autres; il ne peut pas se sauver lui-même. S’il est le Roi d’Israël, qu’il descende maintenant de la croix, et nous le croirons.

 42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

43 Il s’est confié en Dieu; qu’il le délivre maintenant, s’il le veut: car il a dit, Je suis le Fils de Dieu.

 43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

44 Les voleurs aussi, qui étaient crucifiés avec lui, l’injuriaient de la même manière.

 44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

45 Or à partir de la sixième heure il y eut de l’obscurité sur tout le pays, jusqu’à la neuvième heure.

 45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

46 Et vers la neuvième heure, Jésus s’écria d’une voix retentissante, disant: Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? c’est-à-dire: Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m’as-tu abandonné?

 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

47 Quelques-uns de ceux qui se tenaient là, quand ils entendirent cela, disaient: Cet homme appelle Élie.

 47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

48 Et aussitôt l’un d’entre eux courut, et prit une éponge, et la remplit de vinaigre, il la mit au bout d’un roseau, et lui donna à boire.

 48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

49 Et les autres disaient: Laisse, voyons si Élie viendra le sauver.

 49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

50 ¶ Jésus, après qu’il eut de nouveau crié d’une voix retentissante, rendit l’esprit.

 50 ¶ Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

51 Et, voici, le voile du temple se déchira en deux, depuis le haut jusqu’en bas; et la terre trembla, et les rocs se fendirent;

 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52 Et les tombeaux s’ouvrirent, et beaucoup de corps de saints qui étaient endormis, ressuscitèrent,

 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

53 Et sortirent des tombeaux après sa résurrection, et entrèrent dans la sainte cité, et apparurent à beaucoup.

 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 Or quand le centurion, et ceux qui étaient avec lui veillant Jésus, virent le tremblement de terre, et ces choses qui étaient arrivées, ils eurent grand peur, disant: Vraiment celui-ci était le Fils de Dieu.

 54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

55 Et beaucoup de femmes étaient là regardant de loin, lesquelles avaient suivi Jésus depuis la Galilée en le servant:

 55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

56 Parmi elles étaient Marie Magdeleine, et Marie la mère de Jacques et de Joses, et la mère des enfants de Zébédée.

 56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children.

57 Lorsque le soir fut venu, il vint un homme riche d’Arimathée, nommé Joseph, qui lui-même était aussi un disciple de Jésus:

 57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathæa, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:

58 Il alla vers Pilate et implora pour le corps de Jésus. Alors Pilate commanda que le corps lui soit livré.

 58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

59 Et quand Joseph eut pris le corps, il l’enveloppa dans une étoffe de lin nette,

 59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

60 Et le mit dans son propre tombeau neuf, qu’il s’était fait tailler dans le roc: et il roula une grande pierre à l’entrée du sépulcre, et s’en alla.

 60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

61 Et Marie Magdeleine, et l’autre Marie étaient là assises en face du sépulcre.

 61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

62 ¶ Or le lendemain, qui suivait le jour de la préparation, les principaux prêtres et les Pharisiens allèrent ensemble vers Pilate,

 62 ¶ Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,

63 Disant: Sire, nous nous souvenons que cet imposteur disait, quand il était encore en vie: Dans trois jours je ressusciterai.

 63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

64 Commande donc que le sépulcre soit rendu bien sécurisé jusqu’au troisième jour, de peur que ses disciples ne viennent de nuit, et ne le volent, et qu’ils ne disent au peuple: Il est ressuscité d’entre les morts: ainsi la dernière erreur serait pire que la première.

 64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

65 Pilate leur dit: Vous avez une garde: allez, rendez-le aussi sûr que vous le pouvez.

 65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

66 Ainsi ils s’en allèrent, et rendirent le sépulcre sûr, en scellant la pierre, et en y mettant la garde.

 66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
