1 Or il arriva, après que la muraille fut bâtie, et que j’eus mis les portes, et que les portiers, les chanteurs et les Lévites furent désignés,

 1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

2 Que je donnai à Hanani, mon frère, et à Hananiah, le dirigeant du palais, charge sur Jérusalem, car c’était un homme fidèle et il craignait Dieu, plus que beaucoup d’autres ;

 2 That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

3 Et je leur dis : Que les portes de Jérusalem ne soient pas ouvertes avant que le soleil ne soit chaud ; et tandis qu’ils se tiennent là, que l’on ferme les portes, et mette les barres ; que l’on assigne comme gardes les habitants de Jérusalem, chacun à son poste, chacun devant sa maison.

 3 And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.

4 Or la ville était spacieuse et grande, mais le peuple était peu nombreux au milieu d’elle, et les maisons n’étaient pas bâties.

 4 Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.

5 ¶ Et mon Dieu me mit au cœur d’assembler les notables, et les dirigeants, et le peuple, afin de les reconnaître par leur généalogie. Et je trouvai le registre de généalogie de ceux qui étaient montés la première fois, et j’y trouvai ainsi écrit :

 5 ¶ And my God put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein,

6 Ce sont ici les enfants de la province qui remontèrent de la captivité, d’entre ceux qui avaient été transportés, lesquels Nebuchadnezzar, le roi de Babylone, avait transportés, et qui retournèrent à Jérusalem et en Judah, chacun en sa ville ;

 6 These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;

7 Qui vinrent avec Zerubbabel (Zorobabel(, Jeshua (éshua), Nehemiah (Néhémie), Azariah (Azaria), Raamiah (Raamia), Nahamani, Mordecai (Mardochée), Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum et Baanah. Le nombre, dis-je, des hommes du peuple d’Israël est tel :

7 Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this;

60 Tous les Nethinims (Néthiniens), et les enfants des serviteurs de Salomon étaient trois cent quatre-vingt-douze.

 60 All the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon’s servants, were three hundred ninety and two.

61 Et ce sont ceux qui montèrent aussi de Telmelah, de Telharesha (Thel-Harsha), de Cherub (Kerub), d’Addon, et d’Immer, mais ils ne purent montrer la maison de leurs pères, ni leur semence, c’est-à-dire s’ils étaient d’Israël

 61 And these were they which went up also from Telmelah, Telharesha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer: but they could not shew their father’s house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel.

62 Les enfants de Delaiah (Délaja), les enfants de Tobiah (Tobija), les enfants de Nekoda, six cent quarante-deux.

 62 The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two.

63 ¶ Et les prêtres : Les enfants de Habaiah, les enfants de Koz (Kots), les enfants de Barzillai, qui prit pour femme une des filles de Barzillai, le Gileadite (Galaadite), et qui fut appelé de leur nom.

 63 ¶ And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, which took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name.

64 Ils cherchèrent leur registre parmi ceux qui avaient été reconnus par généalogie, mais il n’y fut pas trouvé ; c’est pourquoi ils furent exclus de la prêtrise.

 64 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

65 Et Tirshatha leur dit qu’ils ne devaient pas manger des choses très saintes, jusqu’à ce qu’un prêtre assiste avec l’Urim et le Thummim.

 65 And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.

66 ¶ Toute la congrégation était de quarante-deux mille trois cent soixante,

 66 ¶ The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,

67 Sans compter leurs serviteurs et leurs servantes, lesquels étaient sept mille trois cent trente-sept ; et ils avaient deux cent quarante-cinq chanteurs ou chanteuses.

 67 Beside their manservants and their maidservants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men and singing women.

68 Leurs chevaux étaient sept cent trente-six, leurs mulets, deux cent quarante-cinq,

 68 Their horses, seven hundred thirty and six: their mules, two hundred forty and five:

69 Leurs chameaux quatre cent trente-cinq, et leurs ânes six mille sept cent vingt.

 69 Their camels, four hundred thirty and five: six thousand seven hundred and twenty asses.

70 ¶ Et quelques-uns des chefs des pères contribuèrent à l’ouvrage. Le Tirshatha donna au trésor mille dariques d’or, cinquante bassins, cinq cent trente vêtements de prêtres.

 70 ¶ And some of the chief of the fathers gave unto the work. The Tirshatha gave to the treasure a thousand drams of gold, fifty basons, five hundred and thirty priests’ garments.

71 Et quelques autres d’entre les chefs des pères donnèrent pour le trésor de l’ouvrage, vingt mille dariques d’or, et deux mille deux cents mines d’argent.

 71 And some of the chief of the fathers gave to the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pound of silver.

72 Et ce que le reste du peuple donna fut vingt mille dariques d’or, deux mille mines d’argent, et soixante-sept vêtements de prêtres.

 72 And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pound of silver, and threescore and seven priests’ garments.

73 Et ainsi les prêtres, et les Lévites, et les portiers, et les chanteurs, et quelques-uns du peuple, et les Nethinims, et tout Israël, demeurèrent dans leurs villes ; et quand arriva le septième mois, les enfants d’Israël étaient dans leurs villes.

 73 So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.
