1 D’autant que Christ donc a souffert pour nous dans la chair, armez-vous pareillement de la même intention: car celui qui a souffert dans la chair a mis fin au péché;

 1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

2 Pour qu’il ne vive plus le reste de sa vie dans la chair pour les convoitises des hommes, mais pour la volonté de Dieu.

 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

3 Car la durée passée de notre vie peut nous suffire pour avoir effectué la volonté des Gentils, lorsque nous marchions dans la lascivité, les convoitises, les excès de vin, les orgies, les banquets et les abominables idolâtries:

 3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

4 En quoi ils trouvent étrange que vous ne couriez pas avec eux dans les mêmes excès d’émeute, disant du mal de vous:

 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

5 Eux qui rendront compte à celui qui est prêt à juger les vivants et les morts.

 5 Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

6 Car c’est pour ce motif que l’évangile a été aussi prêché à ceux qui sont morts, afin qu’ils puissent être jugés selon les hommes quant à la chair, mais vivent selon Dieu quant à l’esprit.

 6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

7 Mais la fin de toutes choses est à portée de la main: soyez donc sobres, et veillez à prier.

 7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

8 Et avant toutes choses ayez une fervente charité entre vous: car la charité couvrira la multitude de péchés.

 8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

9 Exercez l’hospitalité les uns envers les autres sans réticence.

 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

10 Comme chaque homme a reçu le don, oui certainement rendez-vous service l’un à l’autre, comme de bons intendants de la multiple grâce de Dieu.

 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

11 Si un homme parle, qu’il parle selon les oracles de Dieu; si un homme sert, qu’il le fasse selon la compétence que Dieu lui donne: pour que Dieu en toutes choses puisse être glorifié par l'intermédiaire de Jésus Christ, à qui sont louange et domination pour toujours et toujours. Amen.

 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 Bien-aimés, ne pensez pas étrange en ce qui concerne l’épreuve de feu qui est pour vous éprouver, comme s’il vous arrivait quelque chose d’étrange:

 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

13 Mais réjouissez-vous, d’autant que vous êtes participants aux souffrances de Christ; afin que, lorsque sa gloire sera révélée, vous puissiez aussi être contents d’une immense joie.

 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

14 Si on vous fait des outrages à cause du nom de Christ, heureux êtes-vous; car l’esprit de gloire et de Dieu repose sur vous: de leur part ils disent du mal de lui, mais de votre part il est glorifié.

 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

15 Mais qu’aucun de vous ne souffre comme un meurtrier, ou comme un voleur, ou comme un malfaisant ou comme se mêlant des affaires d’autrui.

 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

16 Cependant si un homme souffre en tant que Chrétien, qu’il n’en ait pas honte; mais qu’il glorifie Dieu en cela.

 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

17 Car le moment est venu où le jugement doit commencer par la maison de Dieu: et s’il commence d’abord par nous, quelle sera la fin de ceux qui n’obéissent pas à l’évangile de Dieu?

 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

18 Et si l’homme droit est à peine sauvé, où paraîtront l’impie et le pécheur?

 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

19 C’est pourquoi que ceux qui souffrent selon la volonté de Dieu lui confient la garde de leurs âmes en faisant bien, comme à un Créateur fidèle.

 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
