1 Entendez, vous les enfants, l'instruction d'un père, et soyez attentifs pour connaître la compréhension.

 1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

2 Car je vous donne une bonne doctrine, n'abandonnez pas ma loi.

 2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

3 Car j'étais le fils de mon père, tendre et seul bien-aimé à la vue de ma mère.

 3 For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

4 Il m'enseignait aussi et me dit: Que ton cœur retienne mes paroles: garde mes commandements, et vis.

 4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

5 Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers la compréhension: ne l’oublie pas; ne dévie pas non plus des paroles de ma bouche.

 5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6 Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te préservera: aime-la, et elle te gardera.

 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

7 La sagesse est la principale chose; par conséquent acquiers la sagesse: et, avec toute ton acquisition, acquiers la compréhension.

 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8 Exalte-la, et elle te promouvra: elle t’amènera à l’honneur lorsque tu l’étreindras.

 8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

9 Elle donnera à ta tête une parure de grâce: une couronne de gloire te livrera-t-elle.

 9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

10 Entends, ô mon fils, et reçois mes dires, et les années de ta vie seront nombreuses.

 10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

11 Je t'ai enseigné dans le chemin de la sagesse; je t’ai conduit dans les droits sentiers.

 11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

12 Lorsque tu iras, tes pas ne seront pas rétrécis, et lorsque tu courras, tu ne trébucheras pas.

 12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 Tiens ferme l'instruction; ne la laisse pas partir: garde-la; car elle est ta vie.

 13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

14 ¶ N'entre pas dans le sentier des hommes immoraux, et ne prends pas le chemin des hommes malveillants.

 14 ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

15 Évite-le, n'y passe pas, détourne-t-en, et passe outre.

 15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

16 Car ils ne dorment pas, sauf s'ils ont agi avec malveillance; et leur sommeil est ôté, à moins qu’ils ne fassent tomber quelques-uns.

 16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17 Car ils mangent le pain de l’immoralité, et boivent le vin de la violence.

 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

18 Mais le sentier des justes est comme la lumière brillante qui brille de plus en plus jusqu'au jour parfait.

 18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

19 Le chemin des hommes immoraux est comme l'obscurité: ils ne savent pas contre quoi ils trébuchent.

 19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

20 ¶ Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles; incline ton oreille à mes dires.

 20 ¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 Ne les laisse pas se retirer de tes yeux; garde-les au fond de ton cœur.

 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 Car ils sont la vie à ceux qui les trouvent, et la santé de toute leur chair.

 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23 ¶ Garde ton cœur avec toute diligence; car de lui sont les issues de la vie.

 23 ¶ Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

24 Ôte de toi une bouche détournée et mets loin de toi les lèvres perverses.

 24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

25 Que tes yeux regardent tout droit, et que tes paupières regardent droit devant toi.

 25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

26 Examine le sentier de tes pieds, et que tous tes chemins soient établis.

 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27 Ne tourne ni à main droite ni à gauche: retire ton pied du mal.

 27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
