1 Un fils sage entend l'instruction de son père: mais un dédaigneux n'entend pas la répréhension.

 1 A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

2 Un homme mangera du bien par le fruit de sa bouche: mais l'âme des transgresseurs mangera la violence.

 2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

3 Celui qui garde sa bouche garde sa vie: mais celui qui ouvre grand ses lèvres obtiendra la destruction.

 3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 L'âme de l’indolent désire, et n’a rien: mais l'âme du diligent sera rendue abondante.

 4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 Un homme droit hait le mensonge: mais un homme immoral est répugnant, et vient à la honte.

 5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

6 La droiture garde celui qui est intègre dans le chemin: mais l’immoralité renverse le pécheur.

 6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7 Il y a celui qui se rend riche, néanmoins n'a rien: il y a celui qui se rend pauvre, néanmoins a de grandes richesses.

 7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

8 La rançon de la vie d'un homme sont ses richesses: mais le pauvre n'entend pas la répréhension.

 8 The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

9 La lumière des hommes droits réjouit: mais la lampe des hommes immoraux sera éteinte.

 9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 Seulement par l’orgueil vient le conflit: mais avec les bien avisés est la sagesse.

 10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11 La richesse acquise par vanité diminuera: mais celui qui amasse par son labeur s’accroîtra.

 11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

12 L’espérance différée rend le cœur malade: mais lorsque le désir arrive, c’est un arbre de vie.

 12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

13 Quiconque méprise la parole sera détruit: mais celui qui craint le commandement sera récompensé.

 13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 La loi du sage est une fontaine de vie, pour s’écarter des pièges de la mort.

 14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 La bonne compréhension donne la faveur: mais le chemin des transgresseurs est difficile.

 15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

16 Tout homme prudent agit avec connaissance: mais un insensé fait étalage de sa folie.

 16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

17 Un messager immoral tombe dans la malveillance: mais un ambassadeur fidèle est sain.

 17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

18 Pauvreté et honte seront à celui qui refuse l'instruction: mais celui qui a égard à la réprimande sera honoré.

 18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19 Le désir accompli est agréable à l'âme: mais c’est en abomination aux insensés de se retirer du mal.

 19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 Celui qui marche avec les hommes sages deviendra sage: mais un compagnon des insensés sera détruit.

 20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 Le mal poursuit les pécheurs: mais aux hommes droits le bien sera rendu.

 21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22 Un homme bon laisse un patrimoine aux enfants de ses enfants: et la richesse du pécheur est amassée pour les justes.

 22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23 Beaucoup de nourriture se trouve dans le labourage du pauvre, mais il y a ce qui est détruit par manque de jugement.

 23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

24 Celui qui épargne son bâton hait son fils: mais celui qui l'aime le châtie de bonne heure.

 24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25 L’homme droit mange pour satisfaire son âme: mais le ventre des hommes immoraux sera dans le manque.

 25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
