1 Toute femme sage bâtit sa maison: mais l’insensée la démolit de ses propres mains.

 1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

2 ¶ Celui qui marche dans sa rectitude craint le SEIGNEUR: mais celui qui est pervers dans ses chemins le méprise.

 2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

3 Dans la bouche de l’insensé est un bâton d'orgueil: mais les lèvres des sages les préserveront.

 3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 Où il n'y a pas de bœufs, la crèche est vide: mais beaucoup de gain est dans la vigueur du bœuf.

 4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

5 Un témoin fidèle ne mentira pas: mais un faux témoin profèrera des mensonges.

 5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

6 Un dédaigneux cherche la sagesse, et ne la trouve pas: mais la connaissance est facile pour celui qui comprend.

 6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

7 ¶ Quitte la présence de l'homme insensé, lorsque tu n'aperçois pas en lui les lèvres de la connaissance.

 7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

8 La sagesse du prudent est de comprendre son chemin: mais la folie des insensés est tromperie.

 8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

9 ¶ Les insensés se moquent du péché: mais parmi les hommes droits il y a faveur.

 9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

10 Le cœur connaît sa propre amertume; et un étranger ne se mêle pas à sa joie.

 10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

11 ¶ La maison des hommes immoraux sera renversée: mais le tabernacle des intègres prospèrera.

 11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

12 Il y a un chemin qui semble droit à un homme, mais sa fin sont les chemins de la mort.

 12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 ¶ Même dans le rire, le cœur est douloureux; et la fin de cette gaieté est la tristesse.

 13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

14 L’apostat de cœur sera rempli de ses propres agissements: et un homme bon sera satisfait par lui-même.

 14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

15 ¶ Le simplet croit toute parole: mais l'homme prudent regarde bien où il va.

 15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

16 Un homme sage craint, et s’écarte du mal: mais l’insensé rage et est sûr de lui.

 16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

17 Celui qui est prompt à la colère agit follement: et un homme aux desseins immoraux est haï.

 17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

18 ¶ Les simplets héritent la folie: mais les prudents sont couronnés de connaissance.

 18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 Les malveillants se courbent devant les bons, et les hommes immoraux aux portails des hommes droits.

 19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 Le pauvre est haï même de son propre voisin: mais le riche a beaucoup d’amis.

 20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

21 Celui qui méprise son voisin pèche: mais celui qui a miséricorde envers les pauvres, heureux est-il.

 21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

22 Ne s'égarent-ils pas ceux qui imaginent le mal? Mais miséricorde et vérité seront pour ceux qui imaginent le bien.

 22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

23 En tout travail il y a profit: mais le propos des lèvres ne conduit qu'à la pénurie.

 23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

24 La couronne des sages est leur richesse: mais l’absurdité des insensés est folie.

 24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.

25 ¶ Un vrai témoin délivre les âmes: mais un témoin trompeur profère des mensonges.

 25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

26 Dans la crainte du SEIGNEUR il y a une forte assurance: et ses enfants y auront un lieu de refuge.

 26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

27 La crainte du SEIGNEUR est une fontaine de vie, pour s’écarter des pièges de la mort.

 27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

28 Dans la multitude du peuple est l’honneur du roi: mais lorsque le peuple manque c’est la destruction d'un prince.

 28 In the multitude of people is the king’s honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

29 Celui qui est lent au courroux est d’une grande compréhension: mais celui qui est d'un esprit prompt exalte la folie.

 29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

30 Un cœur sain est la vie de la chair: mais l'envie est la pourriture des os.

 30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

31 Celui qui opprime le pauvre outrage son Créateur: mais celui qui l'honore use de miséricorde envers le pauvre.

 31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

32 L’homme immoral est chassé dans son immoralité: mais l’homme droit a de l’espérance dans sa mort.

 32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

33 La sagesse repose dans le cœur de celui qui a de la compréhension: mais ce qui est au milieu des insensés est connu.

 33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

34 La droiture exalte une nation: mais le péché est un outrage pour n’importe quel peuple.

 34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

35 La faveur du roi est pour un serviteur sage: mais son courroux est pour celui qui fait honte.

 35 The king’s favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
