1 Une réponse douce détourne le courroux: mais les mots pénibles excitent la colère.

 1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

2 La langue des sages utilise la connaissance correctement: mais la bouche des insensés déverse des absurdités.

 2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

3 Les yeux du SEIGNEUR sont en tout lieu, observant les malveillants et les bons.

 3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

4 Une langue saine est un arbre de vie: mais la perversité en elle est un brisement dans l’esprit.

 4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

5 ¶ Un insensé méprise l'instruction de son père: mais celui qui considère la réprimande est prudent.

 5 A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

6 Dans la maison de l’homme droit il y a un grand trésor: mais dans les revenus des hommes immoraux il y a du trouble.

 6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

7 Les lèvres des sages répandent la connaissance: mais le cœur des insensés ne fait pas ainsi.

 7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

8 Le sacrifice des hommes immoraux est en abomination au SEIGNEUR: mais la prière des intègres est son délice.

 8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

9 Le chemin des hommes immoraux est en abomination au SEIGNEUR: mais il aime celui qui suit la droiture.

 9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

10 La correction est pénible à celui qui abandonne le chemin: et celui qui hait la réprimande mourra.

 10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

11 L’enfer et la destruction sont devant le SEIGNEUR: combien plus alors les cœurs des enfants des hommes?

 11 Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

12 Un dédaigneux n'aime pas celui qui le réprouve: il n’ira pas non plus vers le sage.

 12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

13 Un cœur joyeux rend un visage heureux: mais par la douleur du cœur l'esprit est brisé.

 13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

14 Le cœur de celui qui a de la compréhension cherche la connaissance: mais la bouche des insensés se nourrit d’absurdité.

 14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

15 ¶Tous les jours de l’affligé sont mauvais: mais celui qui a le cœur joyeux a un festin continuel.

 15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

16 Mieux vaut peu avec la crainte du SEIGNEUR, qu'un grand trésor avec des ennuis.

 16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

17 Mieux vaut un dîner d'herbes, là où il y a de l'amour, qu'un bœuf engraissé, avec de la haine.

 17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

18 Un homme courroucé excite à la querelle, mais celui qui est lent à la colère apaise la querelle.

 18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

19 Le chemin de l’oisif est comme une haie d'épines: mais le chemin des hommes droits est aplani.

 19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

20 Un fils sage rend un père content: mais un homme insensé méprise sa mère.

 20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

21 La folie est joie pour celui qui est dépourvu de sagesse: mais un homme de compréhension marche avec intégrité.

 21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.

22 Sans conseil, les intentions sont déçues: mais par la multitude de conseillers elles sont établies.

 22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

23 Un homme éprouve de la joie par la réponse de sa bouche: et une parole dite à propos, combien est-elle bonne!

 23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

24 Le chemin de la vie est au-dessus pour le sage, afin qu'il puisse s’éloigner de l’enfer au-dessous.

 24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

25 Le SEIGNEUR détruira la maison des orgueilleux: mais il établira la bordure de la veuve.

 25 The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

26 Les pensées des hommes immoraux sont en abomination au SEIGNEUR: mais les paroles des purs sont des paroles agréables.

 26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

27 Celui qui est avide de gain perturbe sa propre maison; mais celui qui hait les présents vivra.

 27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

28 Le cœur des hommes droits étudie pour répondre: mais la bouche des hommes immoraux déverse des choses mauvaises.

 28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

29 ¶ Le SEIGNEUR est loin des hommes immoraux: mais il entend la prière des hommes droits.

 29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

30 La lumière des yeux réjouit le cœur: et une bonne renommée engraisse les os.

 30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

31 ¶ L'oreille qui entend la réprimande de la vie demeure parmi les sages.

 31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

32 Celui qui refuse l'instruction méprise sa propre âme: mais celui qui entend la réprimande obtient la compréhension.

 32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

33 La crainte du SEIGNEUR est l’instruction de la sagesse: et avant l’honneur est l’humilité.

 33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
