1 Pour cause de désire, un homme s’étant séparé, recherche et s’emmêle avec toute sorte de sagesse.

 1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

2 Un insensé n’a aucune satisfaction dans la compréhension, mais dans ce que son cœur peut découvrir lui-même.

 2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

3 Lorsque l’homme immoral vient, alors vient aussi le mépris, et avec l'ignominie l’outrage.

 3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

4 Les paroles de la bouche d'un homme sont comme des eaux profondes, et la source de sagesse comme un torrent ruisselant.

 4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

5 Il n'est pas bon d’avoir égard à la personne des immoraux, pour renverser les droits dans le jugement.

 5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

6 Les lèvres d’un insensé entrent en contestation, et sa bouche appelle les coups.

 6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

7 La bouche d’un insensé est sa destruction, et ses lèvres sont le piège de son âme.

 7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

8 Les paroles du rapporteur sont comme des blessures, et elles descendent jusqu'aux parties les plus profondes du ventre.

 8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

9 Celui aussi qui est oisif dans son travail est frère de celui qui est un grand gaspilleur.

 9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

10 Le nom du SEIGNEUR est une tour forte: l’homme droit y court, et y est en sécurité.

 10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

11 Les biens de l’homme riche sont sa ville forte, et comme une haute muraille dans sa propre opinion.

 11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

12 Avant la destruction le cœur de l'homme est hautain, et avant l’honneur est l’humilité.

 12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

13 Celui qui répond à un propos avant qu’il ne l’entende, c'est une folie et une honte pour lui.

 13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

14 L'esprit d'un homme soutiendra son infirmité; mais un esprit blessé, qui peut supporter?

 14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

15 Le cœur des hommes prudents obtient la connaissance; et l'oreille des sages cherche la connaissance.

 15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

16 Le présent d'un homme lui assure considération, et l’amène devant les grands hommes.

 16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

17 Celui qui est le premier dans sa propre cause semble juste; mais son voisin vient, et l'examine.

 17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

18 Le sort fait cesser les contestations et départage les puissants.

 18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

19 Un frère offensé est plus difficile à gagner qu'une ville forte: et leurs contestations sont comme les barres d'un château.

 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

20 Le ventre d'un homme sera satisfait du fruit de sa bouche; et du produit de ses lèvres sera-t-il rassasié.

 20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21 La mort et la vie sont au pouvoir de la langue: et ceux qui l'aiment mangeront de son fruit.

 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

22 Celui qui trouve une femme trouve une bonne chose, et obtient la faveur du SEIGNEUR.

 22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

23 Le pauvre emploie des supplications; mais le riche répond durement.

 23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

24 Un homme qui a des amis doit se montrer amical: et il y a un ami qui se tient plus proche qu'un frère.

 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
